And with the #21 Pick in the Arrowhead Pride Community Mock Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles Select...

Oklahoma St. TE Brandon Pettigrew |
ChiefsFan717 with the pick...
First and foremost I must say that there is a high probability that the Eagles will deal one of their two first rounders or both come draft day. In all fairness, if they do choose to keep the 21st pick, they either go TE or Tackle. With Arizona OT Eben Britton still on the board, they could very well go in that direction, but I believe the pick here has to be Pettigrew. He could very easily be gone by this time come April 25th. Pettigrew is without a doubt the whole package when speaking of tight ends. At 6'5'' 263, and a massive wing span, he can certainly hold his own against some of the elite pass rushing DE's/LB's when called upon to help block. He also has a nonstop motor in the run game. Although he's certainly not the fastest or flashiest receiving TE in this years draft, he still has the ability to be a reliable outlet for Donovan McNabb.
There are several factors behind the decision to lock up Pettigrew at 21...
1.) There is no way that he makes it to #28...New England and more importantly Atlanta would snatch him up at either 23 or 24.
2.) Brent Celek = L.J. Smith (in other words, Receiving TE) Seeing that they wanted nothing to do with L.J. Smith told me two things. First, they are high on Celek as a receiving TE. And 2nd, they are going to look to either the draft or free agency for a more complete TE who can also participate in the blocking game. (L.J. or Brent can't do this anywhere close to as well as Pettigrew).
3.) Last but not least, Andy Reid stated that he already has legitimate possibilities at LT with both Shawn Andrews and Todd Herremans. With one of the two possibly moving over to left tackle and veteran John Runyan possibly returning to the right side, the Eagles could be more set than you would think at tackle.
Overall, Pettigrew is a STEAL here at 21!

The explanation was right on and the arguments were great. I'm sold on this pick. Chiefs fan should know as much as anyone about the advantage of solidifying the tight end position for years to come.

I'm liking this mock
Pettigrew to the Eagles seems enevitable

It’s possible. I think it’s more likely that the Eagles take a RB here(they’re working out all the top backs), but a TE is possible. I’m not sure how much they like Pettigrew though, Andy Reid didn’t sound terribly impressed with Pettigrew when asked about him recently. Reid noted that he was “not very fast.”
It’s certainly a possibility though.

Tony G is not very fast...
..and still one of the (if not THE) greatest recieving TE of all time…
Inter-Blog visits…nice, lol

Well, that’s Reid…
Plus, Tony G was on of the most productive college TEs ever. His production in 4 or 5 games in junior year probably rivals Pettigrew’s entire career production.

That is true...
It is suprising how few TDs Pettigrew had in college….like 1 last season or something

Cornelius Ingram
is the best TE in the draft IMO. And he’ll fall to the 3rd? This is crazy, petty injuries are blown way out of proportion i the draft these days. It’ll be lucky for whoever nabs him though

What plays? I think there’s a lot of great things you can about Pettigrew, but playmaker is not really one. The guy didn’t even catch a TD pass last year.
Great blocker, sure handed… yes. Playmaker? I don’t know, I guess I just don’t see that.

the playmaking TE is Chase Coffman
just sayin

I Say "No" Primarily Because The Eagles Already Have Brent Celek
Pettigrew’s a talent…no doubt. But they’ve got other critical needs, like their defensive backfield, and players who aren’t a reach who could fill those needs.
Predictions for 2009
1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
2. The Lions will draft Matt Stafford, the Rams will draft Jason Smith, and the Chiefs will draft either Aaron Curry or Eugene Monroe.
3. Maurice Carthon will be the most hated man on the Chiefs' coaching staff within two years.

Celek can't block....
Believe me, they are looking for a blocking tight end that they can keep on the field (also as a receiver)for that west coast offense that they run!
Reppin' 717 like Shady McCoy all day every day!!! Chiefs will do major DAMAGE under the new Regime!!!

A TE that can block is absolutely a need here. There is no about that.
However, it’s always been Andy Reid’s philosophy that you can teach someone to block, but you can’t teach them to catch and run… Now, I don’t really think it’s a philosophy that has served us very well since we haven’t had a TE that could block in forever… but it’s something to consider when trying to guess what he’ll do.
by JasonB on Mar 27, 2009 2:00 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
But at #21 overall?
I agree that it is a need, but I just don’t see the value in taking a TE here unless he is the second coming of Tony G (which Pettigrew is not). I like a DB or (as you noted below) possibly an OL.
An outlier: would there be any consideration for Darius Heyward-Bey here? McNabb’s got better targets than he’s had in a long time, but it’s like the mighty midget receiving corps out there with Curtis and Jackson. I guess that Avant kid came on a little bit in the playoffs, but I just thought I’d throw Heyward-Bey out there. I’m sure Philly fans are sick of everyone else telling them to draft a receiver every year.

I would not personally take a TE at #21. I agree that the value isn’t there.
I think there’s a chance they take a WR at some point, but not this early.
They have had a private workout with Bey though..

I was actually thinking the Eagles would take the best RB available.
Wells or Brown.
Either one could make their offense quite good.
Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

Disagree
seriously does nobody know that Ebon Britton exists? The Ealgles just lost William “Tra” Thomas and are in desperate need of some help along the O line. They signed Stacy Andrews but he’s coming off a torn ACL.
Another option here is Knowshone Moreno. He’s the top feature back in the draft, something the Eagles have been missing for a long time. Brian Westbrook is old and can’t take it between the Tackles.
To be quite honest I’ve only agreed with about 3-4 of the picks in the draft

We just had that piece on his the other day...
He does look good….but I think he will fall later…
They are likely hoping for Andrews to fill that spot. Their coach said he is optimistic either Andrews or Herremans can play that spot…

Ebon Britton
should not fall past the Bears, both Smith’s and Monroe will be gone in the top 10. The Bears are in desperation mode for O linemen it makes sense. This is crazy Knowshone Moreno shouldn’t even be available here! Hell Beenie Wells shouldn’t be available here… But whateevr I can’t complain I never signed up to draft

If Eagles take a running back...
It will be The PA grown “Shady” McCoy, later in the draft!!! Hands down! His measurables were not the greatest, but they like him better than the other 3 backs. He actually has a visit coming up with the Eagles in the near future. Let’s stay tuned to the 28th pick, you might just be suprised!

The Eagles pick too late to wait til’ the second to draft a top tier feature back

Brown, McCoy, Moreno, and Wells...
Will all be gone by the Eagles 2nd round pick…If they wait till then to address the RB position, they’re going to have to get a bruiser like Greene or A. Brown (Stock is heating up for both of these guys)!

I agree
but Greene may be gone too. He’s my favorite second round RB. He’s going to be a beast in the NFL.

That's why i was saying...
Don’t be suprised if they grab him at 28! Because to be honest, Moreno or Wells (or both) will probably be gone by 28, and I’m telling you McCoy is a perfect fit for this offense. I wasn’t saying later as in 2nd round, I was stating later as in 28th overall!

I don’t think they see O-line as a big need. The Eagles MO is to draft college tackles and play them at guard. Andy Reid has said for years that his plan has been to move one of his good guards(college tackles) out to tackle when Thomas left. Plus, they drafted 2 guards last year to help replace whoever moves to tackle.
REid does love his lineman and believes that’s where the team is built, so there’s always a good chance he could grab an OT here is there is someone he likes. But there’s no desperate need there.

Eagles
They need to take an OT with this pick. They brought in Andrews (Cinn) who has a questionable knee but lost one starter and the other is still out in free agency.

Trade with Chiefs for 21st and 28th pick
I’d love to see the Chiefs move both Gonzo, LJ and our first round pick to the Eagles. Gonzo would be a good fit for them, and if we can get the value we want, why not. LJ should have been moved a few years back for top value, but to the Eagles, he would be a good bruiser back for them with some good years left.
I’d also trade our first round pick to the Eagles. I don’t think the dollar value at that pick is worth it for where we are in the rebuilding stage.
Here’s what I ’d like to see us do.
We get the Eagles 21st and 28th pick of the first round, also the Eagles 2nd round pick, which is 21st of that round I believe. We would also get the Eagles 1st round pick next year. I have not run the numbers, but there might be another pick for us to get in there for this year and/or next. I think getting three good players in this years first 55 or so picks would be solid and give us some options.

I send TG and LJ there for their best 2nd (they have two) their 3rd and a 5th. I’d be well pleased with that.

Not A Chance Of That Happening
Johnson is a problem child and Tony is getting old. There is no way the Chiefs are going to get a 2nd rounder plus another first day pick for those two.
