The Chiefs agreed to contract terms today with veteran offensive lineman Mike Goff. Goff has some versatility and could wind up starting for the Chiefs at center or right guard.

The 33-year-old Goff played 11 NFL seasons, the first six with Cincinnati and the last five with San Diego. He has been a starter for the past nine seasons.

SWEET!

that makes the draft a bit brighter we only need a center, a right tackle, a rush DE, and two linebackers now haha

2 solid seasons as is

But if he’s a workout warrior he’ll give us 3-4 years. He’s not the flashiest starter but he’s a solid starter nonetheless

well, it certainly provides a little more focus

who’s to say that Goff won’t be at Center? He’s got some time in at that position.

The only measure of true success in the NFL is the Vince Lombardi trophy. Anything less is a rationalization.

by sm7600 on Mar 25, 2009 12:53 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

true dat

with Goff at Center we slide Niswanger out to guard and the only position we need along the offensive line in the draft is RT, which could still very well be Herb Taylor

C or G

it’s a proven player. Nice.

Bonus

nice pick up. He might just be a stop-gap until we get some youth to backfill his spot.

But this certainly alleviates some stress over the O-line.

Almost as nice a pick up

as that lovely lady in your profile picture. I suppose I should know her name, but I’m not up to date on my starlets.

This is nice

The team really seems to be coming together on paper now…

Agree...

we have enough veterans to fill some gaps and compete immediately and enough youngsters with promise to keep the winning going for years.

I like it...

I know there was a Chargers fan bad mouthing him last week but still, I like the signing.

by HIV 2 Elway on Mar 25, 2009 12:57 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Yes!

I love this, it automatically adds depth, competition and (hopefully) a starter to the line-up

by DT58forever on Mar 25, 2009 12:57 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Plus it will help the Def guys who line up against him in practice

make them better players

I think that's the most important thing right now.

Getting the younger guys some good tips and training to help them develop…

From the comment section of the Red Zone

He’s a tough son-o-bitch

Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

Boo!

Chargers fans told us all we need to know about Goff. Sure, he USED to be good. But those days are behind him. We have to realize he wasn’t re-signed for a reason by SD

by KansasCityShuffle on Mar 25, 2009 1:10 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

he's a helluva lot better than our RG or C

I’m all for improving my team how about you?

The Chargers are smart

they need to get young, they’re a team on the decline right now and they need to let their youngsters step in and start. Brandyn Dombrowski looks pretty promising at 6’5" 325 pounds

finally a free agent signing that makes sense.

by Vince D on Mar 25, 2009 1:15 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Really nice pickup

He had a down year last year, but still had his moments. I think he can give us decent production, or at the very least, some solid veteran depth.

Finally!!

I’ve been wondering what the hell happened to him since he came for a visit. We FINALLY signed him. I have to stop wondering what is holding up the signings and just except that it’s the pioli/Haley/Hunt way now. It’ll take a while to get used to…but I’ll get there…eventually.

Since 2000, Started 141 of 144 Games. Missed 3 games in 02, and hasn’t missed a game since.

huge +1

Most of the older players who stay healthy do so because they take care of themselves. Moreover, the reason guys like this are still playing is cause they have technique (espcially at OL) and experiance. This is a Good signing on the talent/skill/perfomrance chart and a GREAT signing on the leadership/“chiefs way”/mentor chart. I think he will give us 2-4 years depending on our record/playoff chances.

Anyone listening to 810 right now?

KK is saying that there is a one month work stoppage looming next week for the Labor group doing the projects at Truman Sports Complex. He’s also saying that it’s possible that The Chiefs would have to play every game on the road this season….Columbia and Lawrence are options but htey both have drawbacks.

I almost put a fanshot about it but there is nothing to link…anyone listening to this? That can’t really happen, can it?

It WILL NOT HAPPEN

there is NO WAY that Clark Hunt is going to lose the revenue gained from the 8 home games. He’d bribe someone into settling the labor dispute before he’d miss out on all that income.

Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

by PVChiefsfan on Mar 25, 2009 2:27 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Try him at Center

…and Niswanger at guard. Rudy is a tough guy he earned respect from me for how he gritted it out on that bad knee at seasons end. And Muir is an excellent line coach. If Herb Taylor can plat RT like he played LT that would be a real boost .

by FrankPitts on Mar 25, 2009 2:45 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Kick ass!!!

We are finally seeing the pieces come together, no more 26th offense in the league crap!!!

Now hopefully this team is fun to watch again! Thanks Scott, Clark!!

by Eric Allen on Mar 25, 2009 6:33 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Our offense is gonna be kick ass next year.

I would love to get Jeremy Maclin. That would finish the deal IMO.
