And with the #17 Pick in the Arrowhead Pride Mock Draft, the New York Jets Select...

Sanchez_q389_medium

                                      USC QB Mark Sanchez

NJChief with the pick...

Now that Mr. Favre has hung up his cleats and ridden off into the sunset, it's time for the J-E-T-S to find their quarterback of the future.   They took a hard look at their current roster of Kellen Clemens, Bret Ratliff and Erik Ainge to fill the void and even tried to make a trade with Denver for Jay Cutler.   However in the end, the Jets decided to buy into the USC QB hype and select Mark Sanchez with their first round pick.    The Jets are hoping that Sanchez pans out better than last year's number one pick (Vernon Gholston) and they're banking on him to be more like USC alums Carson Palmer and Matt Cassel instead of Matt Leinart, Rob Johnson, Sean Salisbury, Rodney Peete, and my favorite Todd Marinovich.    Surprised that Sanchez had fallen this far, the Jets and their fans should be extremely happy with this selection.

Sanchez has good size - 6'3" 225 lbs., intelligence - a Wonderlic score of 28, and college experience in a pro style offense (albeit only 16 starts) to tout on his resume.  He can also claim that he battled a pretty good defense everyday in practice for a couple of years at USC.    As a senior, he threw for over 3,200 yards, 34 TD's and only 10 INT's.   One could argue he should have stayed in school one more year to gain valuable big game experience, but he elected to enter the draft while his value was high and hope for the best.   Maybe he'll be New York's next Joe Willie Namath....only time will tell.

Previous pick: DE Tyson Jackson

The Jets would love, love for this to happen in the real draft. If Sanchez is around at this point, they definitely take him.

Great pick!

Sanchez is the best QB in this draft and is a steal at #17. Jersey will be a great fit for him as we know he can handle the pressure of playing in a major market. My only concern is that he isn’t given the time to develop and is tossed into the fire too early. Not saying he needs to ride the pine for a full year, I just don’t want to see him rushed.

But...

is Sanchez going to want to compete with Cutler for the starting position?

If He Becomes The Next Namath

The Jets are going to suck because Namath was never that good. He just knew how to work the press. In fact, I’d argue that he was one of the worst QBs ever to win a Super Bowl and that he’s definitely the worst QB in the Hall of Fame.

Predictions for 2009

1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
2. The Lions will draft Matt Stafford, the Rams will draft Jason Smith, and the Chiefs will draft either Aaron Curry or Eugene Monroe.

That Said

I agree that Sanchez will be the pick if he slips this far.

C'mon...

He’s in the HOF….he had a little talent.

I would say Trent Dilfer, Jeff Hostetler, Mark Rypien and Brad Johnson were the worst QB’s to win Super Bowls…..not Namath.

by NJ_Chief on Mar 25, 2009 10:39 AM CDT up reply actions

Everyone In The NFL Has At Least A Little Talent

But Namath’s numbers were terrible for most of his career…even by the less pass-friendly standards of the 60s and 70s. Which was reflected by his horrible TD/INT ratio (173/222), his gawdawful completion percentage (50.1%…ranked 187th out of 201 all-time QBs with enough attempts to qualify), both of which had significant bearing on his teams’ 77-108 win loss record over his career.

Correction

Namath’s pass completion percentage had him ranked 187th out of 219. Which means that he was still terrible at completing passes. Len Dawson and Bart Starr, two of his contemporaries, both ranked in the 60s for completing passes…in the top third of NFL QBs all-time

I've Always Liked Suzi Kolber

“Perky” is a quality I’ve always found attractive. Although if I’ve got a type, it’s probably a little closer to Bonnie Bernstein, who I’ve had a crush on for well over a decade.

No scantily clad photos, though…I respect her too much to parade her around in front of you lot. :)

That Was Reason Number 2 I Didn't Post A Scantily-Clad Photo

I couldn’t find any. But it was first and foremost about my deep and abiding personal respect for her professialism.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. :)

Alyssa Milano Is Hot

And she’s got a sense of humor, considering she cameo’d on “Family Guy” to rip on herself…which makes her doubly hot :)

Kellen Clemons

Is my boy and everything, outta Oregon, love his cowboy attitude, but Im not sure he is a real NFL quarterback. Picking up Sanchez would be huge for the J-E-T-S. PS- Fuck Brett Favre

by ArrowDread on Mar 25, 2009 10:39 AM CDT reply actions

Exactly

If Sanchez is here. He will be a New York Jet. Rex Ryan is going to want his franchise QB in New York, this year, just like John Harbaugh got in Baltimore with Joe Flacco last year.

by ChiefsFan90s on Mar 25, 2009 10:40 AM CDT reply actions

Trent Dilfer

Definitely is the worst QB to win the Super Bowl, and on ESPN.
If I did not know better, I would say that Ray Lewis was actually the QB for the 2000 Super Bowl Champion Ravens.

by ChiefsFan90s on Mar 25, 2009 10:41 AM CDT reply actions

In reality ...

Anyone see the Jets trading out of this position? I’d like to point out the possibility of the Jets perhaps even giving it to Denver for Cutler straight up, and allowing Denver to get rid of their problem child, crybaby QB …

That way, the Jets solve their own QB crisis. Denver could also manage to shore up their defense by either taking the best Defensive player available with this pick and taking K-State’s Freeman in the 2nd round, or taking Sanchez now and a Defensive player in the second.

Thoughts?

by JacinB on Mar 25, 2009 10:44 AM CDT reply actions

To hell with the Jets

Let’s get to the Patriots already ;)

by NESilver on Mar 25, 2009 7:25 PM CDT reply actions

This is one of those picks

That pretty much only happen in mocks like this where there is no trading.

Thats not to say I disagree with how AP is doing the mock, its pretty much the only way to do it.

My point is, this is a great, obvious pick, but there is no way he falls to #17. IF he was there in the teens, someone will trade up to get him.
