Gettin' Serious with The PARADE: Denver Broncos Get Serious
Brian Xander's Safe-T Helmet?
Because of this whole Jay Cutler fiasco we've been checking the Bronco's blog the Mile High Report pretty regularly.
Generally the concept of a deCutlerfied Boncos in the AFC West has seemed too good to be true. Cutler's just too valuable a player to lose in the NFL's current QB depleted market. However, having this controversy drawn out has been good in and of itself.
First, the longer it goes the closer we get to a trade or hold-out deadlock. Jay Cutler potentially sitting out the season? That would certainly get some of those trade offers on to Pat Bowlen's desk.
Second, and more importantly, what they've missed over at MHR and what most in the media are overlooking is where the hell is newly appointed Bronco's GM Brian Xanders? Sure they've demonized Bus Cook, Cutler's agent and the sports agent who most recently brought you the Brett Favre controversy. But so what? Agent's jobs are to get the best deal for their client, for every Bus Cook there's another Drew Rosenhaus ready to take his place.
But what's the deal with Brian Xanders? Power in Denver already seems to flow directly from Pat Bowlen to Josh McDaniels to Jay Cutler and Xanders is just running around signing checks and choosing what time to have the conference calls.
Furthermore, whose fault was it that they showed up late to the Cassel deal and then didn't manage to get it done or keep it quiet? To say Pioli's shown his worth by comparison thusfar is an understatement.
What else has Xanders and McDaniels achieved? They've taken a smorgasbord theory to free agency which isn't condemnable in itself, but there don't seem to be a lot of FA that don't walk out of Denver with an offer. Moreover, look at who they've signed.
Brian Dawkins is probably their most impressive off-season acquisition thusfar, and we'll admit that when we saw that we had a little 'aw sh*t" moment thinking about him landmining our crossing patterns. But then we came across this article about how most of the Bronco's secondary will crack 30 at least by next season.
In short, the Broncos aren't building for the long-term, they've got a GM with no control, and their Coach has alienated their star quarterback.
That said, it's good to get outside the echo-chamber and realize we're all homers. The Chiefs may be optomistic to hope to crack .500 this season, but the way things are going in Denver, they should probably feel the same.
As for the long-term? GET SERIOUS Denver Broncos fans, you're in deep sh*t.

To add to this
Where is owner Pat Bowlen?
After he fired Shanahan he said he would be more hands on. He said he didn’t want to get involved in this situation. Are you kidding me?! If there was ever a situation that needed some sort of mediator it’s this.
you said it about right :)
"But what do I know, I'm AP's new assclown and I’m like an empty room with a large ECHO"
McDaniels is in over his head
If he had Pioli as a GM he’d stand a fighting chance, but it looks as though he’s bitten off more than he can chew

Absolutely
IMO he has no business as a HC. He should have stayed right where he was for two or three more years.
Vae Victis!
pat bowlen
is a joke even when he fired shanny he looked like a deer in head lights . Some of his answers were just like someone was holding q cards. its like ok you had the best offense in the league ya you missed the play offs but a good draft some free agents your back in biz its not like your in the nfc east everything is wide open in our division. get a clue get a vet for a coach and dont give him total power. The entire root of the prob was he gave the keys to shanny and he drove the team into the ground with poor draft picks on the d side. there was no structure at all in his system. Now they have a roookie coach making mistakes and he again looks like a deer in head lights. pat get a clue plug in one time.

Don't forget
it wasn’t just bad D drafting, they also picked up the entire Dline from the Browns, what an awesome move that was.

The thing about this....
…is that Cutler will never trust McDaniels…
And the other players on the team see how it is happening and will probably not trust them either….They are ruined…
Right
And to further deepen the mountain O’shit, by alienating their pro bowl QB, McDaniels has completely undermined his own authority as HC. You can bet that there will be a fair number of players who aren’t about to trust him either. Same for the fans.
Vae Victis!
And if the guy running the team ain't happy AKA Cutler
Sorta that if momma ain’t happy….
Plus if Cutler is running team why would he pull trigger on his replacement.
For you younger ones, The Broncos were once the doormat of our Division and hopefully will regain that lofty title again soon.
Bah, too optomistic
Cutler and McDaniels will likely be fine in the long term, football is football (unless of course the L’s start stacking up) just hopefully Cutler either A) forces a trade because Bowlen get’s hardnosed about paying him off, B) Cutler sits out for the same reason, or C) This drags on long enough into the season that the offense is a mess by the time we play them first.

Makes you wonder
if they’re spending so much time doing damage control, are they evaluating their players and planning their schemes? Like you said Parade, they pretty much offer any FA a deal who comes through there. Makes you wonder if there’s even a plan over there. If they don’t start getting it together, I don’t see how the L’s won’t start stacking up.
Vae Victis!
Great take on the State of the Broncos
They seem to be floundering pretty badly over there. I for one will be glad to not have to face Cutler twice a year if they trade him. Excellent comparison of Xanders to Pioli. I feel that we seem to be making the right moves, and the Broncos can’t get out their own way.
When i heard that throwback uni's were coming back i had one fear....
And that was they were going to bring back the retarted donkey helmets…
