There are reports going around that the Detroit Lions are taking Jason Smith with the #1 overall pick. That's kind of a head scratcher to me.
I have been looking at numerous mock drafts and somewhere in the top 5 I keep seeing Jason Smith. Everyone seems to love this guy but I don't see why he is so special. I've seen a handful of youtube clips of him and I have to agree that the guy looks like a legitimate pass blocker. But nobody expected him to be a first round pick after the regualr season was over. It seems like nobody (including the scouts) are aware of his run blocking abilities. He's only been an offensive lineman for a couple of years, which means he's still pretty raw. Andre Smith and Eugene Monroe were talked about a lot last season and both have the talent to be top 5 picks but many people believed that they were the best linemen in the game. Was JS as good as them and I just never noticed it? Or are scouts falling in love with his workouts and his "potential"?
I'm not dogging on JS. I hope he is successful wherever he goes. I just don't see why everybody is so high on him. Am I just missing something or what? Give me some feedback.
