Cassel vs. Cutler
I know this has been talked about before, but I'm getting tired of the talk about how "great" Cutler is, or that he's better than Cassel. (I'm also avoiding work while waiting for some news.) If you look at the stats between the two during their first full year, Cassel put up better numbers. Of course the supporting staff was different between the two teams, but Cassel hadn't started a game since high school! That means a lot IMO. Anyway, take a look at the numbers and tell me what you think.
Cutler
| Year | Team | G | Att | Comp | Pct | Att/G | Yds | Avg | Yds/G | TD | TD% | Int | Int% | Lng | 20+ | 40+ | Sck | SckY | Rate |
| 2008 | Denver Broncos | 16 | 616 | 384 | 62.3 | 38.5 | 4,526 | 7.3 | 282.9 | 25 | 4.1 | 18 | 2.9 | 93T | 55 | 7 | 11 | 69 | 86.0 |
| 2007 | Denver Broncos | 16 | 467 | 297 | 63.6 | 29.2 | 3,497 | 7.5 | 218.6 | 20 | 4.3 | 14 | 3.0 | 68T | 41 | 7 | 27 | 153 | 88.1 |
| 2006 | Denver Broncos | 5 | 137 | 81 | 59.1 | 27.4 | 1,001 | 7.3 | 200.2 | 9 | 6.6 | 5 | 3.6 | 71T | 10 | 2 | 13 | 85 | 88.5 |
Cassel
| Year | Team | G | Att | Comp | Pct | Att/G | Yds | Avg | Yds/G | TD | TD% | Int | Int% | Lng | 20+ | 40+ | Sck | SckY | Rate |
| 2008 | New England Patriots | 16 | 516 | 327 | 63.4 | 32.2 | 3,693 | 7.2 | 230.8 | 21 | 4.1 | 11 | 2.1 | 76T | 37 | 6 | 47 | 219 | 89.4 |
One other thing that worries me is the fact that Cassel doesn't have a number. Matt Cassel has been a Chief for weeks now, yet the roster still lists his number as 0. Mike Vrabel has his number, which was easy , but no such luck for Cassel. I'm pretty sure this is nothing to worry about, but I wanted to see what everybody else thought. There are numerous articles like this around the web.
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/140027-broncos-should-trade-jay-cutler-for-matt-cassel
Personally, I don't want Cutler anywhere near KC. Also, this is my first post so let me know what I screwed up.

With All that's happened in Denver
Do you think Cutler will ever mature?
If they trade him he will think he can always have his way.
That is the reason I wouldn’t want him.
Comparing their 1st year as starters does not provide an accurate picture
Cutlers first year as a starter was coming in as a rookie. Cassel’s first year as a starter came after three years of going to meetings, watching tape and practicing with an NFL team. That has a great deal of value.
Cutler was a 1st round pick, Cassel was a 7th round pick that never started in college.
Whatever Cassel is now, it is BECAUSE of the time he spent watching from the sidelines with the Patriots. The supporting cast between the two is vastly different as well.
You’re just fooling yourself if you think just because he had one good season it proves he’s better than Cutler. I’m just hoping Pioli hasn’t fallen for the same thing.
Actually, it means that he (Cassel) might be a lot better.
He improved all through the year and is a much better QB now than he was a year ago. Compare last eight games from last year on each.
He could be
Or he could be the next Derrick Anderson and be a great big flop this year. One season is not enough to judge someone by.
Forgive me if I am not yet ready to put all my faith in a guy that hadn’t started since High School until last year and when he did get in was on an offense that went 18-1 the year before. I really hope Cassel is as good as Pioli and co. think he is. I’m just not ready to make that leap on the limited amount of data I’ve seen so far.
I agree, but
I think that Cutler is incredibly overrated. I can’t stand the fact that every single time Cutler’s name is mentioned (which is all the damn time) he is described as the most talented QB ever to strap a helmet on. It’s hard to deny that kid has the potential to become a top-tier QB, although some would argue that he already is.
Maybe I’m just biased because of the team he plays for. Oh, and he’s an ass-clown.
+1
I cannot stand that guy. Philip Rivers too. What a couple of homos.

There is a reason people say that
He DOES have a lot of talent. He IS a good QB and will continue to get better as he matures.
Don’t let the rivalry cloud your judgment.
A CONSPIRACY WITH THE NUMBER? FUNNY...
Maybe Cassel is negotiating with Lenny for the 16. Not even Montana could pull that one off. He tried. Maybe with Lenny leaving full time TV (his deal has been adjusted – down) he needs the $. Doubtful.
There’s no conspiracy and Lenny the Cool will never, ever agree.
since63
He needs to NOT wear that number
If anything Cassel needs to wear 10 (USC #) or 19 (Montana)
I know that you're afraid... you're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin.
'09, a new era begins in Kansas City.
Montana didn't negotiate
Len Dawson offered his number to Montana and Montana declined. Both very classy guys.
Cassel
was a stupid pick up. He was a one year wonder with the best offense in the league. Of course he will do good. He will not be as great here and we know it. We would be better with Thigpen. We also trade for Vrabel. Wow, how old can you get. and we have to pay Cassel a huge contract.
WHAT
How Can you say he was a one year wonder in he just played for one year i think you a have to set back in see what he does this year befor you call him a one year wonder man.I mean in my eyes he’s gone to do just fine i can see also that we look at him different but i say you cant just call him a one year wonder he the guy played one you see what he have done next year in then the next year i say give him to years this year he’s new to the WR it’s gone to take some time for him to get use to the team so his 2nd season when thats over thats when you come back in call him what you wont ok

Do you seriously think Thigpen is better? Crack kills dude. I like Thigpen but, if you think he is better than Matt Cassel, you did not watch any football last year. If you want to call Cassel a one year wonder, that was one helluva year! If you considered that year against the best QBs in the league right now in their first year as a starter, his numbers will look astonishing.
Cassel is going to be a very good QB. I hope he is with the Chiefs for many years to come.
Prototype QB build + great arm strength + strong character = Chiefs AFC west champs in 09!
Go Chiefs!

Cassel won't be good
He played for the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS not the cheifs, huge difference one of the best franchises and a franchise that just fired there long time coach and won two games. Another reason why cassel would not do good is beause of that o-line and back with the pats he had great recivers like moss and gaffney. But that’s my opionion you guys won’t win the division the raiders will simple.really good coach there young great players and playoff contenders for sure. But for you that might take a while

It’s okay. The g and the n on the keyboard are just as easily confused as Oakland and San Fran on the map.

Just like all Raiders fans...
You need to go back to 5th grade and learn how to read and write. Seriously, every time one of you dipshits posts on here, I can barely read your stuff because of all the errors.
Remember I before E except after C.
Get away from the Gang, Get off the crack, go back to school, and start rooting for a real football team. You guys have beat us twice out of the last 12 times we have played and all of a sudden you think you have something to stand on. The Raiders suck and they will until the cryptkeeper is dead and gone.
KC Chiefs= AFC west champs in 09.

Hold Up!
Raider fans have to get off crack and start cheer’in for a real football team? Yeah ….We have three super bowl rings bitch remind me if your weak ass team has even been to a super boul!
P.S it is really sad that even with a cryptkeeper we have a better record that you.
The Pieces of the puzzle are set. Get ready to Dominate!
Actually
The Chiefs have been to 2 SBs, and won one of them.
On a semi-related note; what the hell is a super boul? Thanks for proving the point that most Raider fans are ignorant, gang-banging elementary school dropouts. Oh, and how many times have the Chiefs beat you in your own broken down “coliseum”?
SSHHHH...The "super boul" is what they award themselves each year.
Don’t disturb the ’tart in the corner. :)

I am starting to think nishal has QB envy.
His doesn’t perform well, so he attacks the teams who have competent QB’s. He shows up for no reason in a QB thread on AP. I think he is displacing his inadequacy.
It’s cool, we won’t tell anyone that your QB comes up “short.”

Our QB
was a first round draft pick and had the top five rating level in the last six weeks and about you guys having competent QB’s didn’t you guys have to go out and get leftovers from the Patriots

First round draft pick doesn't mean he isn't a bust.
Yes, I will gladly take sloppy seconds from the Pats. I won’t even double up.

Seriously?
A Raider fan wants to talk QBs? Jamarcus Russel is the worst 1st round QB I have seen since Ryan Leaf. That dude is a joke.
Tyler Thigpen is a better QB than J-Mac and he was a seventh rd pick from COASTAL CAROLINA! And when I say he is better, I mean he is way better.
In one more year, Russel will not have a job at all or he will be riding the pine in Chicago or some other wasteland for quarterbacks.

Just like the La Brea Tar Pits,
a slow and cognitively challenged creature didn’t have the wherewithal to realize they are screwed.
Those pits are in LA aren’t they? The same place you went extinct? Didn’t see it coming either, in the #2 market? Remarkable.
Wow. It must hurt to not be supported by the #2 market and, kinda, be banished to the garbage dump of San Fran .

between October 20, 2003 and October 21, 2007? A four year losing streak to a division rival isn’t much to brag about. But you wouldn’t want to bring that up, would you? Yeah, thanks for your charity.

The thing I like about Cassel
Is that he has experience as QB on a winning team and has great size for a starting QB.
+1
We improved the most critical position on our team immensely by picking up Cassel. The beautiful part is, we still have Thigpen on the team. Once we start watching pre-season games, we will all see who the better QB is. I am convinced that Haley and Pioli will start the QB who gives us the best chance to win. If we can protect him, and give him targets to throw to, Cassel will do well.
You guys ............
are probably right about Cassel but i hope TyleR make’s all you guy’s eat you’re word’s !!
If Thigpen wins the job outright, and has anything close to a Pro Bowl caliber season
then no one will be happier than me. But I just don’t think Thigpen is there yet. It took Gannon quite a few years in the league to become a Super Bowl QB, and Thiggy has the same kind of potential, so it won’t hurt him to sit behind Cassel and keep learning.
I agree.............
But you cant say it was a stupid pick-up, im sure Cassel will be a good QB! Both guy’s will help this team, but we will never know how good QB Tyler would have been with a good o-line and better coaching! Another thing is CASSEL still hasnt got a number and no long term contract why??? IMO givin some good coaching and a good o-line Tyler could be a great QB and cost us alot less if he was a bust , but for now i guess i’ll trust S.Pioli !
Cutler is better than Cassel
Cutler is better than Cassel
