With draft day a mere month away, here on Arrowhead Pride we've been less than patient with the here and now. Let's look ahead to what the FUTURE may hold for our franchise. Below I have listed 3 things I would love to see happen in the next offseason in no particular order.
1. Pick Up a Big Boy For the Full Transition to The 3-4
I would love to see us pick up Vince Wilfork, his contract runs out along side Teddy Bruschi's, Kevin Faulk's, Nick Kazcur's, Logan Mankins', Benjamin Watson's, and Richard Seymour's, all the while Tom Brady's contract runs out the following year. Assuming the Patriots sign Julius Peppers they're going to be tight for cash in the next off-season. Wilfork will still be 28 following the 2009 season. Scott Pioli drafted Wilfork and could use that as a negotiation chip, the only way this is going to happen however is if we win at least 7-8 games. Wilfork isn't going to want to go to a team that doesn't have a future. If we land Wilfork we can start running the 3-4 full time and build around him.
2. Pick Up a Big Boy For the Full Transition to the 3-4
"Romeo Crennel" or his agent to be more precise, decided to take the 2009 season off to refuel his jets. Although Crennel may not come to Kansas City as the defensive coordinator he would make a hell of a defensive consultant. If we are able to get Crennel into the Chiefs orginization next season getting our hands on some of the Patriots players mentioned above (the defensive ones anyway) becomes a lot easier as Crennel will enforce the same defensive scheme as the Patriots do.playing for a team on the rise with the luxury of not having to switch schemes will be attractive.
3. Draft a Wide Receiver in the First Round
Assuming we win 7-8 games we'll be in the middle of the draft. This past season I developed a man crush on Jacoby Ford and he should be there in the middle of the draft. He's a speedster who is projected to run a 4.3 at the combine. He's an all star in track too so he could be our guy to stretch the field and get Dwayne Bowe some serious yardage. Plus you know your team is legit when you draft a wide reciever in the first round. Unless of coarse the name of your team is "Lions" or "Raiders."
