And with the #11 Pick in the Arrowhead Pride Mock Draft, the Buffalo Bills Select...

Rey-maualuga_medium

                              USC LB Rey Maualuga

ArrowDread with the pick...

There are a lot of Pac-10 haters, but this dude can ball!  He has been called the next Junior Seau and not just because of his pacific island heritage.  Dude is a game breaker.  Anyone who watched USC play this year saw Maualuga flying around, making plays in the nations best conference. Hes got speed, experience in big games, and that USC swagger any team would love at middle LB. The Bills are in need of defensive rock, someone to build their D around.  Bills would love to to keep Paul Poluzney inside, but they cannot miss opportunity to lock up a cornerstone LB for the next decade.  Buffalo need a pass rusher, but underwhelmed with Orakpo and all the Big 10 chumps, Bills go best LB available, which is Rey-Rey.

Previous pick: QB Matthew Stafford

I can't really speak much on Maualuga or the Bills LB situation so I'll let Buffalo Rumblings take it away:

Easily the most NFL-ready linebacker this year.  The type of player that you plug into the lineup and let him go from Day One.  Like his two USC teammates, he's got experience in a zone-based scheme.  Two things are working against him in terms of Buffalo, however - less than stellar straight-line speed and, far more importantly, the fact that the team seems content keeping Paul Posluszny inside.

Who?

My crystal ball says Jay Cutler cries himself to sleep every night.

Good Pick

I’m irritated because I was hoping he’d fall to the Lions at #20, but it makes sense for the Bills. They lost Angelo Crowell and need someone to shore up their linebacking corps and this is about the right spot for them to take Maualuga.

Predictions for 2009

1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
2. The Lions will draft Matt Stafford, the Rams will draft Jason Smith, and the Chiefs will draft either Aaron Curry or Eugene Monroe.

Since when did you become such a big Lions fan?

I've Followed The Lions Since Barry Sanders Played There

While the Chiefs are my team, Sanders was still my favorite NFL player…the dude was flat-out awesome. And I’ve kept up with them on and off since he left, mainly because they’re the ultimate underdog and I enjoy rooting for the underdog. I was the same way with the Cardinals for awhile too. Took a lot of ridicule from my dad because, in his words “The Cardinals will never make it to a Super Bowl in your lifetime”.

Plus, I think they’ve got the potential to be really good (although I think Gunther will do a terrible job as DC). They’ve got an All-World receiver and a very promising running back with Kevin Smith (who was a better RB last season than Matt Forte…which isn’t meant as a slight against Forte). Also, I have Megatron in my keeper league (and am hoping to snag Kevin Smith with a 6th round pick in the upcoming fantasy draft) so I have a vested interest in following the Lions. :)

Orakpo on the clock

unless Cutler jets then you gotta believe it’s Sanchez

Agreed

They’re in pretty desperate straits for a QB right now. Kellen Clemens is terrible. I’m not sure about Sanchez’s readiness for the NFL but if he ends up there I’m betting he’s the starter by midseason or sooner.

Great pick

If he went to Buffalo their D could start looking scary quickly!

With two Polynesian linebackers

that’s pretty scary for opposing rushers

buffalo would have some pretty nice off season upgrades

plus a good solid line backing core. as long as lynch can stop riding dirty these guys can be pretty good.

B-Lo

Its hard to hate on the Bills. How to you talk shit on Buffalo? KC fans know heartbreak and playoff choke jobs but nothing like Bills fans. Losing 4 straight Super Bowls?!?! I cant imagine even making it to one. Dont bring this up with Bills fans. My roommate in college was from Buffalo and would get real emo whenever anyone would talk about it. Ive always had a soft spot for the Bills cause…man..4 in a row…thats rough.

Bills have a tight squad. Picking up TO is a ballsy move, but I like it. With a few more guys and some help on D, Bills could be sleeper.

Plus

They retro uniforms could be the best in all the NFL. FUNKY!

by ArrowDread on Mar 20, 2009 1:37 PM CDT up reply actions

Thats what they all said last year

Buffalo could be a sleeper. At the start of the season they looked legit then they choked and showed the team that they truly are

by KansasCityShuffle on Mar 20, 2009 2:16 PM CDT up reply actions

They're Never Going To Be A Sleeper

Because Dick Jauron sucks. He sucks, sucks, sucks, sucks, sucks, sucks, sucks, sucks.

He is a shitty head coach. He’s had one winning season in eight years (13-3 in 2001). He’s never topped seven wins in the other seven seasons. His offenses suck, his playcalling sucks, and his coaching sucks. His career as a HC should have ended after his tenure in Detroit.

Predictions for 2009

1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
2. The Lions will draft Matt Stafford, the Rams will draft Jason Smith, and the Chiefs will draft either Aaron Curry or Eugene Monroe.

by UCrawford on Mar 20, 2009 3:15 PM CDT up reply actions

I thought he pretty much lost his job

when he called that pass with J.P Losman in on 3rd and short with Marshawn freekin Lynch in is weapons closet. A first would have set up a kneel and done but they turned the ball over and lost.. I forget who they were playing though, he was retained in the name of consistency in the coaching staff…. I guess consistently sucking is something the Bills are interested in

Time is a great teacher... unfortunately it kills all it's pupils.

by 808NaNz808 on Mar 20, 2009 3:44 PM CDT up reply actions

Consistency

If there’s anything I hate, it’s that word when it’s used to talk up an incompetent coach or useless player.

You know what a “consistent” player with bad stats is? A consistently shitty player. You know what a “consistent” coach with a poor win-loss record is? A consistently shitty coach. Consistency is for losers unless it’s accompanied by tangible and quantifiable achievements.

He's Holding Marshawn Lynch Back

With his crappy ultra-conservative offense. He also screwed me in 2007 by making Lee Evans a fantasy bust of mammoth proportions.

Fortunately I won my league last year even with Jauron’s idiocy. But I do feel sorry for Bills fans, seeing as how senile old Ralph Wilson decided to extend him after three consecutive 7-9 seasons.

Predictions for 2009

1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
2. The Lions will draft Matt Stafford, the Rams will draft Jason Smith, and the Chiefs will draft either Aaron Curry or Eugene Monroe.

by UCrawford on Mar 20, 2009 5:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Bill Simmons Said It Best

If Ralph Wilson were our aging, wealthy parent and he started making financial decisions as idiotic as the one he made by extending Jauron, we’d already be taking steps to have him declared legally incapacitated so he couldn’t piss away any more of our inheritance.

TO is a destroyr of teams

He eats hope and craps disappointment. He’ll move to Buffalo and make nice-nice with Trent Edwards in the off-season, maybe taking him out for a night of steaks and strippers. Then midway through the season the Bills will hit a three game losing streak and TO will explode leaving nothing behind but scorched earth and despair.

by Chiefs4Life on Mar 20, 2009 3:56 PM CDT up reply actions

agreed

he has a chance to at least END his career on a good note. But I doubt he takes advantage of it, there were four other teams looking at him so he probably still thinks he’s the greatest person ever to grace this planet

Time is a great teacher... unfortunately it kills all it's pupils.

I'm cool with the pick.

But as far as calling the pac-10 the best conference in the nation, I think that may be a bit of a stretch… :)

by Ben S on Mar 21, 2009 1:18 AM CDT reply actions

Its not a bad pick

but I think they would be better off going with Orakpo…thier DL struggled alot last year…at times looking like the Chiefs DL…..Schlobel is getting up in age and comming off a nice little injury….I personally dont think Orakpo will be that good in the NFL but I think thats where the Bills will look to go….But I wouldnt be surprised if your pick was’nt what they actually did…
