And with the #10 Pick in the Arrowhead Pride Mock Draft, the San Francisco 49ers Select...

2007122569_medium

                           Georgia QB Matthew Stafford

Harry Feltersnatch with the pick...

The San Fransisco front office is excited to announce  with the 10th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, they have selected QB from Georgia Matt Stafford. The strong armed QB from Georgia was not expected to fall to them at this spot, but they are very happy he did. The pick could have been defense with the likes of Brian Orakpo and Rey Maualuga still sitting on the big board. The fall of Stafford was a great happening and the next step in building back the 49er dynasty.

The 49ers are a franchise built by great QB play. The likes of Y.A. Tittle,Joe Montana, Steve Young, and even Jeff Garcia have made San Fransisco a QB friendly city. Matt Stafford will be the next name listed with the greats of the 49ers. His style of play is similar to a Jay Cutler with his stature and strong arm. Matt will rip the ball through the defenders and get it in the hands of his offensive threats. He has the ability to stretch the field and throw it beyond the safties and the composure to elude the pass rush and throw on the run. Leadership is another of the qualities teams look for when drafting a QB, and this guy can hold the attention of an entire team.

Here are some highlights...

Previous pick: DE/OLB Everette Brown

If you're San Francisco, you have to make this pick, right? You'd be ecstatic if Stafford fell this far. Unless of course, you don't like Matthew Stafford.

Yeah

Kind of a no-brainer with this one and I think it would be a great choice for SF.

San Francisco

will crap their pants if he falls to them.

When was the last time a QB wasn’t picked in the draft until pick number 10?

Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

Because I think that would be pretty rare

and if it is rare, would that be a confirmation of the idea that the QB class is really weak this year?

Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

san francisco is a treat

I dont know why they fired mike martz they actually had some life on offense and now if stafford falls to them who is going to help him be sucessful i think these guy are worse than the raiders . I can tell you right now this franchise is going to the crapper fast with singletary running it .

And call me crazy but i actually felt alex smith was pretty good

he was better than a lot of qbs in the league . If he would have had one cordinator every year stafford would be falling in the draft.

If He Falls This Low The Niners Will Jump On Him

It’s a no-brainer for them, and he’s probably BPA by this point in the draft.

Predictions for 2009

1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
2. The Lions will draft Matt Stafford, the Rams will draft Jason Smith, and the Chiefs will draft either Aaron Curry or Eugene Monroe.

Easy pick

The 49ers may be legitimate trade partners this year. If B.J Rajii or Stafford is there at #3 San Fran could be tempted

Time is a great teacher... unfortunately it kills all it's pupils.

Sanchez

was almost my pick here. I actually have him graded out higher than Stafford, but at the same time he has a slightly higher bust potential. After the Alex Smith fiasco, I thought that picking the “Safest Prospect” would be the smart thing to do for San Fran. It would be a nice pairing if this were to happen for real.

I lost my pen. May I borrow yours?

I Think You Made The Right Call

Sanchez doesn’t have a slightly higher bust potential than Stafford…he has a much higher bust potential than Stafford. QBs with such limited experience as starters in college (one year for Sanchez) have a horrific record in the NFL. He has some tools and he looked good in his bowl game, but even his college coach didn’t think Sanchez was ready yet.

2. The Lions will draft Matt Stafford, the Rams will draft Jason Smith, and the Chiefs will draft either Aaron Curry or Eugene Monroe.

For all the "spread" fear mongering

that Big 12 QBs face, i was surprised by how much of Staffords highlight reel showed him in the shotgun formation. he did line up under center occasionally, but the vast majority of his passes in the particular reel came out of the shotgun formation.

This was a good pick

This is were I think he’ll be and I think he’ll be alot better than Alex Smith…..

49ers draft pick

Obviously anything could happen, but I really don’t see the 49ers going QB in the first round, and actually most Niners Nation readers think the same thing.

I do hope the 49ers grab a QB in the draft, but I’m thinking more likely in the middle rounds. I think based on your current mock, the 49ers could potentially end up with a guy like Brian Orakpo and Michael Oher. Or maybe even trading down.
