I m still behind #4 as our starter

I have been trying to get input from anyone that is out there and no one really has a response.  I  truly believe that if thigpen and Cassel are to truly copete for the job then  Thigp  When it comes down to it I think it is a good secrity blanketen will beat him out. I  understand that Piolli has beeen with Cassel for tha past 4 yrs but when you are comparin those two teams then you are comparing pie with dirt. If you look at the stats they are similiar and if you take in to consideration the teams that they were with then I would have to say that #4 beat him out. #4 had about 2.5 less total games,a weaker coaching staff, tougher schedule, and deffinetely less talent. By the way who was mentoring him??? Damon Huard and Dick Curl.  Holy Crap,,,,,litteraly.  #4 threw 3 less TDs 1more pick and 21 yes 21 less sacks,,,,,Do you really think that Cassel could have done that.....I for one do not.   Its hard to throw from your back.

Cassel is goingto be in way over his head,He WILL get exposed!!! If you are going to bring in another QB in here to learn a new system then whats the difference if just teaching the one you have??? The only thing that I can realistically come up with is thaat there is going to be a Qb competition. There has to be,,,what kind of staff would bring in a highschool QB to beat out an exciting QB. They both are going to need grooming.

When it comes down to it I believe that it is a good "security blanket" to have Cassel there, and if Haleys comet, and if Piolli will let him, have an actual FAIR competition for that position then I really think that #4 will win it. And thats what I hope and think will hapen. He is more of a security blanket,or so is Thigpen. This management cannot be that stupid to just base there QB on what happened with a 18-1 team. At least I prey they are not that dumb.

Ending with that I am rooting for you #4 and will even if you ride the bench. Hopefully 1/2 way through the season when Cassel has 14 int and 30 sacks that it wont turn into a Grbac/Gannon situation, if it hasnt already. and for those of you thatare totaly basing the greatness of Cassel on his 11-5 team then please keep your comments to only those who cant read cause you haveto comparea lot of things. If you put a lamborghini wheel on a VW bus it doesnt make it a lamborghini you dumb asses.    Caaael is in over his head and thats probably why he is not signing a large contract.   GO #4

What the F*%$

Was that all about!!! Between the chose of script and the misspelled words I about went cross eyed reading that.
On top of that I had to read about how YOU think Thigpen compares to Cassel and that in YOUR opinion Thigpen is better!!! WOW!!!
You need a reality check and a spell check to go along with that.
I’m with RoyalsRetro I do hope it was a joke!

wHATS THE REALITY CHECK NUMB NUTS??? STAY OVER THERE AT KAUFFMAN OR COFFIN STADIUM JACK OFF!!!!!! IF IT HURTS YOUR POOR LITTLE EYES THEN STOP READING OR GO TEACH GRAMMER IF YOU COULDNT UNDERSTAND WHAT WAS SAID. FUKTARD

Apparently

You don’t have anything to do all day either so looks like we’re both lazy losers!!

by ksjhwk on Mar 2, 2009 1:22 PM CST up reply actions

You Know

If you invest in Microsoft Word it comes with a free Spell Checker. Your posts would be MUCH easier to read if you were able to utilize such a tool.
The reality check is you could have 10 head to head open competitions for QB between Cassel and Thigpen and Cassel would win ALL of them.
KC went with the “ArrowSpread” offense for Thigpen because he didn’t know how to play in a pro set offense.
THATS THE REALITY CHECK DUDE!

by ksjhwk on Mar 2, 2009 1:18 PM CST up reply actions

So if Cassel went to the Lions What would there record have been?? So would he win against lets say Warner? or Jay Cutler even? Bid Ben????He was a 7th round pick basically out of highschool and he took over a 18-1 team. Vince Young could have done that. He was put in the absolutely best position available to any 2nd or 3rd string QB out there, and you are going to tell me that he is that good? Stay in College football turkeyhawk Theres your reality check.

by kcoutlaw2 on Mar 2, 2009 1:29 PM CST up reply actions

WOW!!

Spell Check does work!!! You actually spelled correctly in 90% of that post. Your still missing my point. THe Arrow Spread offense was only developed because that’s all Thigpen knew how to do. HE too is a 7th Rd pick from the Vikings that King Carl could live without. Well when it came time to use him he could even play a pro set offense. At least they didn’t have to redesign and ENTIRE offense for Cassel just for him to be able to play.
Thigpen was okay but he’s not a long term solution for this team. The longer he was in a game the worse he got.

by ksjhwk on Mar 2, 2009 1:34 PM CST up reply actions

are you saying

Thigpen would win out against Warner, Big Ben, or Jay Cutler? You know none of them play in a spread right? Im having a hard time believing your opinion should be worth something

Time is a great teacher... unfortunately it kills all it's pupils.

by 808NaNz808 on Mar 2, 2009 1:39 PM CST up reply actions

NO!

I’m not saying he would beat out warner, Ben or Cutler. I’m saying just the opposite. THigpens future is as a back up not a starter. He was okay when we ran out of QB’s but for an entire season or as a franchise QB HELL NO!!! He would beat anyone out as a starter.

by ksjhwk on Mar 2, 2009 1:42 PM CST up reply actions

all Im saying

is that how do they really know that Cassel is a franchise QB. I mean its not like they have alot of tape on him comming out of college, and if you are going to compare what he die with that team in NE to what Thigpen did here then there is more to consider then the out come of those games, It seems like they are not giving #4 a chance. Now if they actually give them 2 a real fair competition and Cassel dies wun out I would be more inclined to accept that but I honestly dont think he can. Thigpen did get better as the year went on and I believe he is only gonna get better. I truly dont think that we upgraded at QB. More of a safety blinket. One of them screws up then its the others turn. They should both get a fair shake and hopefully the staff isnt playing favorites

by kcoutlaw2 on Mar 2, 2009 1:57 PM CST up reply actions

Dont compare thigpen with those guys .The original question was with Cassel dont try to change things around

by kcoutlaw2 on Mar 2, 2009 1:48 PM CST up reply actions

How about we take this angle

No way in hell Kerry Collins beats out Jay Cutler in a head on QB contest. No way in hell Jay Cutler beats out Peyton Manning. Their all good starters but there are QB’s that are better than them until you get to the top of the chain… I think what ksjhwk is trying to say is Thigpen is a good QB but he’s hit his ceiling, he’s shown us that he can only perform in one offensive set (compare falcons game to Jets game) and thats in the gun. To maximize the performance of your offense your QB has to be able to go under center and drop back too. This allows a power running game to spell your passing game, and unless you have some friken amazing recievers (Patriots 07) than your going to need that running game. Matt Cassel on the other hand does it all, he goes under center and takes snaps out of the gun. His potential hasn’t been hit because he has only improved over the coarse of the season whereas Thigpen was in a spiral to close out the season. How many TD passes did Thigpen throw the last five games of the season? How many did he throw in his first five starts since the Jets game?? You’ll see my point

Time is a great teacher... unfortunately it kills all it's pupils.

To answer your question...

I will try to ignore what is possibly the worst conceived indictment of the intelligence of others I have ever seen:

“and for those of you thatare totaly basing the greatness of Cassel on his 11-5 team then please keep your comments to only those who cant read cause you haveto comparea lot of things. If you put a lamborghini wheel on a VW bus it doesnt make it a lamborghini you dumb asses.”

The reason those of who actually watch and understand football prefer the upside Cassel over good ole Thiggy comes down to the ability to read defenses and make accurate passes to the correct receiver. The record of these 2 quarterbacks is not the whole story. (This is the only thing you got right in your post btw)

The real story is that Cassel stood in the pocket, read the defense and completed over 63% of his passes. Thiggy made his primary read, checked his outlet then took off running. This is not to put Thigpen down. It’s what we asked him to do. However, in this simplified approach, his completion percentage should have been MUCH higher.

With that said, there are things to like about Thiggy. He’s tough, mobile and has some leadership qualities. These are things you can’t teach and are reasons to try and keep him for development purposes. If he can add the qualities that Cassel has already shown, he may make a good starter someday.

However, right now, Cassel is light years ahead of him and should be our starter. The ceiling for Cassel is to be a “franchise QB”. The ceiling for Thiggy looks more like capable backup.

Thank you for that response thats all the input I was really looking for and Im not the GM by the way to all the other guys, It wasnt a statement it was an opinion, And I was curious to see if people were basing their conclusion that this was a good deal on his 18-1 team that he took over
Boy I really like to get the opinions of others and have not only a lsugh but some good input from at least one of you. Maybe I’ll go to another post and see whats happening over there.

I don’t know if you watched any of Cassell Games last year. He flat out finishs games, something thiggy, just couldn’t do. Now you must keep both of them, we only 2 1/2 quarterbacks. (Brodi Hurt half the time)

I agree

His wife is a little ditsy but she is still pretty maybe thats where he should be. Stay in Stillwell Fragile Cripple. Could you imagine all the laughs that are goingto come out when he is in there at the pre season. He s gonna take a page out of the most recent “cry baby” page of the NFL. Of course though he should be happy about his money and is probably laughing himself.

He played on the line at Central Conn State. Me might show them a little something…

by Matt_Grbac on Mar 2, 2009 3:03 PM CST reply actions

Thigpens Future

Does anyone think he has a legit shot at playing a different position for the Chiefs? He played RB in high school. Maybe if he can atleast get on the field more often because he does have good speed and runs very well.

by Matt_Grbac on Mar 2, 2009 3:08 PM CST reply actions

Nah!

It’s different when you are a quaterback scrambling than a rb taking a hand off. Besides he made the switch for a reason and it has been a while.

by Nelly on Mar 2, 2009 3:18 PM CST reply actions

True...

Just throwing that out there. I think he has a rifle arm and good speed. He just lacks the “IT” quality for our starting guy. He has the “Rudy” complex…he is smaller and lacks all the tools, but dangit he tries and people love him..
