Chiefs to Hold Teleconference to Announce Free Agent Signing

Thanks to a tip from LTownChiefsFan, we've learned that the Kansas City Chiefs have scheduled a 4:30 CST teleconference to announce the signing of a free agent.

Of course, continuing with the theme of mystery, we don't know who that player is.

There is some speculation going on in this FanPost. With a teleconference scheduled, it's unlikely that this is a no-name signing.

Kent Babb over at the Red Zone is in on the speculation game and even placed his odds on who the signing might be:

1. Pace, 4-1
2. Holt, 5-1
3. Engram, 6-1

The guys at 810 are thinking it might be a wide receiver. Bobby Engram visited the Chiefs at the beginning of the month.

Continue the speculation in this thread and we'll have some more information on the mystery signing shortly after the announcement.

After being quiet for two weeks, the Chiefs are getting busy in the market for unrestricted free agents.

The team announced the addition of three new UFAs on Tuesday afternoon. They are:

WR Bobby Engram, a 13-year veteran who is 36 years old and played last season for the Seattle Seahawks. He came into the league as a second-round choice of the Chicago Bears in the 1996 NFL Draft out of Penn State. Over his career, Engram has caught 645 passes for 7,690 yards and 35 TD passes. He’s 5-10, 192 pounds.

LB Monty Beisel, an eight-year NFL veteran who came into the league as a Chiefs fourth-round draft choice in 2001. Beisel, who will be 31 in August played last season with Arizona. He played his first four seasons with the Chiefs, left in free agency to sign with the New England Patriots where he played for a season and then landed with the Cardinals.

WR Terrance Copper, a five-year veteran who turned 27 last week and played last season with the New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Ravens. The North Carolina native played at East Carolina and came into the NFL in 2004 as a college free agent with the Dallas Cowboys. He’s 6-0, 207 pounds and has caught 46 passes for 600 yards and six touchdowns over his career.

Why not?

They’re announcing the signing of a player. Doesnt mean it has to be a new player. They haven’t “signed” him to a long term deal, which they obviously intend to do.They never had a presser for him. Why would they for any of these 3?
