Third Round Pick George Selvie

This guy was an absolute beast in College at defensive end.  He has a very quick first step and a powerful frame that allows him to get underneath offensive lineman to create great leverage. He is listed at 6-4 and 245 pounds.  I know that he is a little small to play defensive end in either a 4-3 and espeially a 3-4 but man I really think he could be converted to a 3-4 rushing OLB.  I read wear Arizona had a player they called the predator that almost always rushed the quarterback.  Selvie would be perfect for this position seeing that he is a natural pass rusher.

This guy could significantly improve our pass rush and sack totals if he can continue to do what he did in college and that was chassing down quarterbacks.

For his career Selvie had 25.5 sacks and 186 tackles.  His junior season he was in absolute beast with 14.5 sacks.  The tackle numbers are very good for a defensive end which could prove that he could play OLB in the 3-4.

What do you all think.

ChiefsWolf

Do you want me to put that YouTube video into your post for you?

It's weird...

I can watch embedded youtube vids here at work, but not on youtube itself… Guess the admins didn’t care about it that much :)

It's up there

For future reference, to embed videos in FanPosts, just copy the “embed” code that’s to the right of all YouTube videos and then in your FanPost switch to the “html” mode at the top right and then paste the code wherever you want the video to go.

I thought

originally he was going to be a higher pick, but with the extreme depth at the 4-3 DE/3-4 OLB position in this draft I can see how he would drop. I would take him at either position. I know he’s a little small, but so are a lot of pass pushing DE that’s why a lot of them are so good.

Most good DE's are lighter...

for speed. Jared Allen had great speed and muscled his way to the QB. That’s what made him so good. Julius Peppers is close to the same build at Allen but a bit lighter. But, he’s got great speed and hands to get to the QB and make the play.

There's no hope with dope...

He's not available....

This is from the GBNReport at www.gbnreport.com from early January:

“South Florida DE George Selvie has decided to pass on the 2009 draft and will return to school for his senior season next fall. Selvie had been projected by many draft pundits to be one of the first 3-4 DEs off the board this coming April if he did enter the draft, reportedly was told by the NFL’s special Draft Advisory Committee that he likely would not be selected in the first three rounds after a somewhat disappointing season in which he had just 5 sacks after racking up 14.5 in 2007. Selvie, though, was slowed by a nagging ankle injury much of the past season.”

Wow

Didn’t even realize that. I was wondering why his name was dropping off boards.

Thanks for the heads up. Geez…can’t believe we missed that.

Too bad.

I really thought he was coming out this year.
