Cassel on the move?
Although many of you will disagree with this post, I am just sharing today's story about Matt Cassel.
Per the Village Voice, the Broncos are still interested in acquiring Cassel:
For those of you focusing only on March Madness, the news out of Denver is that quarterback Jay Cutler is distressed that the Broncos new coach, former Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, has a big lean towards Matt Cassel, New England's starting quarterback last year who was recently traded to the Kansas City Chiefs. McDaniels developed Cassell and is apparently working hard to engineer a deal that would bring him to the Broncos. No matter who in the Denver franchise tries to deny it, that would seem to be the case, or why would McDaniels be lavishing such praised on Cassel?
As it's highly unlikely that any team would keep two quarterbacks of the caliber of Cutler and Cassel on their roster, it seems very likely that Cutler, who demanded a trade after meeting with McDaniels over the weekend, will soon be traveling.
I added the bold to the text to highlight that this sentence is in the present tense.
Here is a link to the entire article, posted on Tuesday March 17, 2009.

Obviously trading Cassel might seem like a step backwards. Moreover, it seems like one of those silly fantasy football discussions. Nonetheless, if McDaniels truly is interested in acquiring Cassel, the Chiefs should at least consider listening. Who knows, maybe we can turn the 2nd round pick we just gave up into a 1st rounder or into a 2nd and a 3rd?

Nice Find
I don’t see this happening at all. Pioli obviously wanted Cassel.
I just can’t see it happening.
Also from the article
Denver says they want an experienced backup in exchange for Cutler.
Who is the source on this? This looks like more speculation than actual sources IMO.
If Denver is asking for trades
then they had better take what they can get or make Cutler happy imo.
My crystal ball says Jay Cutler cries himself to sleep every night.
Deal him...
for the right price. Cassel for Cutler and their 1st and 2nd rounders. If they want him that bad, they can pony up.
They would never do that
Cutler is worth more than Cassel IMO. More of a proven investment.

I've never heard that before
That’s an awesome saying.

HAH!
I was thinking just their 2nd rounder might be a pipe dream.
Still, their 2nd rounder and Cutler for Cassel? That would be equivalent to moving down a few spots in the 2nd round to get Cutler and Vrabel. That would be the ultimate steal.
Unfortunately, it’s just speculation, and the post is simply an unconfirmed rumor. :(

Yeah
A big rumor IMO. Blockbuster moves like this probably wouldn’t come from a lesser known newspaper blogger.

It's a pipedream but...
if you’re giving a division rival what they want you better be getting a lot more value in return than you would from other teams.
WITH Cutler
No, I wouldn’t take less than the #12 for Cassel alone.

I'd want Cutler AND
their 1st, maybe second and a linebacker.

I dont think
there is anyway we will let Cassel go to our biggest rival.
and if Cutler came here that would ruin everything that the Chiefs have done to regain my interest this offseason.
I can see that
At this point…either way, Cutler or Cassel we’re sittin’ pretty.
But agreed on neither side wanting to do business with a division rival.

Completely off subject...
I didn’t want to start a whole new thread on this, since it’s not Chiefs news perse…but I am locking down in getting my first ever Chiefs season tickets this year. It’s a bold step for me, since it is my first ever in buying season tickets. I’m moving towards the St. Louis area in July and will only be about 4-5 hours away from K.C. so getting season tickets is reasonable.
I’m sorry, I’m just excited about this. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do as a kid, and now that I’m grown, on my own, with a family of my own this just locks down my idea of the American dream. Everyone has their own and this is just a piece of the puzzel that is mine.
There's no hope with dope...

Always nice to be able to afford what you want
especially in this economy. Congrats on the season tickets, you’ll enjoy them!
My crystal ball says Jay Cutler cries himself to sleep every night.
Thank you!
I would like to keep up with these and someday pass them down to my son, great seats, a great football team, and great memories to share with my son.
On topic now I really don’t see us giving up Cassel. Pioli is on the binge of using guys he knows to build this team. He uses guys with experience that he has worked with and then builds up everything else through the draft. That’s why we haven’t hit the FA market hard because we’re still building through the draft. Pioli just has a way of filling holes with guys that won’t lock them down for long periods of time (except the QB position) but guys that will fill for a few years that he knows will get the job done and build up for the players that he picks in the draft. It’s a smart move, if you think about it. Unlike other teams (Jets…*cough*Broncos*cough*) that hit the FA hard to keep themselves “in the game” we stick with building through the draft, just not as hard as Herm did. It’s smart and works well to our advantage.

Congrats Chris. That’s awesome to hear. I’m still a couple of years from being in full “grown-up mode” with a family and what not so I still don’t have them.

Thank you very much
It’s good to accomplish one of your dreams. Especially when you’ve worked hard for it. My job in the Coast Guard is VERY stressful so it feels good that it’s now feeling financially rewarding to be able to do something like this.

Am i the only one (wishfull thinking)
who hopes Cutler doesn’t get traded and stays in Denver….I want him to be miserable and drag the entire franchise down with him…I want him to splinter the locker room and complain loudly to the media….I hope Pioli does everything in his power to sabatoge this trade so that Denver will by stuck with a TO-esque locker room poison….Death to the Donkeys!!!!
i agree
why would we fix their disfunctional family. I hope they trade him to the lions and end up picking up stafford or sanchez. either way they will suck this year. Even better i hope Cutler holds out of training camp and forces a trade or ends up playing with no Training camp.
No reason not to
McDaniels has played this so badly, there is no reason in the world to not try to take advantage of it. Offer Cassel for Cutler and their first round pick, take it or leave it. McDaniels has publicly lusted so much for Cassel and has burned his bridges with Cutler, so he might do it. If not, who cares?
If they actually gave in and made the deal, then this would be the best series of trades in the history of the NFL: a second round pick for #12 overall, Cutler AND Mike Vrabel.

Whoever said we should demand a first AND Cutler then trade him for another 1st....
I agree with that…
You know….my great ole buddy HIV once said “When you’re dealing with the devil you have to ask for the world….”

…was teaching the world he didn’t exist…
KEYSER SOZE!!!!! KEYSER SOZE!!!!!
Being realistic...
I would definitely trade Cassel for just their first rounder if they want him that badly. They would do it too because then they could trade Cutler to someone else for at least a first rounder to make up for it. That way we are basically turning a second rounder into a first and Mike Vrabel… what a steal. In addition, if we could trade out of one of our two first round picks, that would be pretty amazing. Or we could draft Curry and Maualuga both.
Yeah....
But that would actually give us 3 first rd picks #3 – #12 from denver with the cassel trade and what ever we would get from trading Cutler! I’ve been saying this all along and i would be all for it! Lets see how doe’s this sound Curry Maualuga and hmmmm lets see …………..OL WR take your pick ! Now that would be the Mother of all trade’s.
I would not trade Cassel unless Cutler is thrown in too.
Otherwise…No Deal!

and I like the Ideal of trading Cutler for another +1 pick

Keep Cassel...
And sit back and enjoy watching the entire city of Denver burn to the ground. I dont ever want to have a QB that cries all the time on this team, QB’s already cant even get hit anymore without a defensive penalty. So just just sit back and love every second of this.
Whats with all these closet broncos fans
first everyone shanahan to be the coach now everyone wants cutler….what gives?
Cassel
One thing that has been bothering me as he hasn’t been introduced to the public. You’d think if they did have their QBOTF, they would have done a lavish press conference introducing him wearing his “19” jersey. Thats why I always have that thought that he might still be on his way out.
Just my $0.02

You're thinking of the old regime,
things are different now.
You think it's coincidence that I bleed red?
They wouldn't be selling his jerseys already if that were so...
And dear God please don’t let him pick #19…Scott Mitchell’s number…
Sorry, but thats just funny
This is the NFL, any team will sell anything that you or I will buy. They’re about making money.
On the record..
I prefer to keep Cassel and see how he does.
I really like Cassel for the Chiefs and hate Cutler..but
Never have a sacred cow….so here is one scenario I could live with…trade Cassel for Cutler and 1st, then trade Cutler to Browns for one of their QBs and 2nd rder.
No thank you
I dont want anything to do with another head case, Larry Johnson is more than enough head case for me thanks
we'd be pricks if we traded Cassel
no team would ever trade to us if we traded him
Time is a great teacher... unfortunately it kills all it's pupils.
I agree
That would be a tacky move & I for one don’t think Pioli will do anything like that and like I said before, I want to keep Cassel and see what he can do.
We have not had a franchise QB in all my years as a Chiefs fan. To me, the franchise QB is what separates the men from the boys in the NFL. I want to see a winning Chiefs team so bad I can taste it. I would be pissed if we traded away Cassel and he went on to win a Championship while we are still trying a different QB every year or two. I am so sick of that. In the 90s, If the Chiefs had a real QB, we would have gotten a Championship.
Let the Matt Cassel era begin.

Prick's......
Come on now that would be a business decision and if we got 2 first rd picks out of that deal, how could anyone not go for it!! Thus giving us 3 first rd pick’s and with those 3 picks this team would be kickin some ass! A.CURRY, R.MAUALUGA and the center MACK! I’ll end this with a great quote from PACMAN JONE’S ( I likeded the script clubs)and that’s the rest of the story! Unga Bunga and goodnite!
