Courtesy of the Red Zone, here are the "final" positions for the Kansas City Chiefs coaching stuff. There have been a few tweaks since our last post but this should pretty much do it. For example, Chan Gailey is now going to be coaching quarterbacks as well as directing the offense.
The only coach left out is Joel Collier, who hasn't been given a role quite yet. His resume shows lots of experience on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball so it's tough to tell what positions he'll end up coaching.

Staff looks impressive to me
obviously there are a couple of guys on here that if they fail to meet expectations will be replaced next year, Clancy and Tim, but considering the timing and availabilty of coaches, its a very respectable staff.
Happy to see Gibbs wind up at LB and am pleased that Muir was available for us to pick up.
Was hoping to bring in Romanowski as the Stregnth and Conditioning guy, he’d get our guys jacked up for the 2nd half with a little No-Xplode, steroid concoction, ah well maybe next year.
"Ugh" On Defense
At least Pendergast is the dog with the least fleas as defensive coordinator, but I assume this means the Chiefs are now committed to going 3-4, which makes B.J. Raji a more likely pick at #3 (and probably means Dorsey will be learning to play defensive end under Tim Krumrie’s tutelage).
It’s going to be an ugly year for the Chiefs’ D this season.
Predictions for 2009
1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
2. The Lions will draft Matt Stafford, the Rams will draft Jason Smith, and the Chiefs will draft either Aaron Curry or Eugene Monroe.
I have to agree
But it will not be Raji picked by our Chiefs, if Curry is there, he is OURS! No doubt about it! If going to a 3/4 or even staying with the 4/3 it makes no sense by passing Curry for Raji!
I wonder why you always say * It’s going to be an ugly year for the Chiefs’ D this season. * when in reality, this D can be one of the best as well as maybe one of the worse~ IT SHOULD be an interesting year for our chiefs, no matter.
But when it comes down to it, adding Curry over Raji, is no brainer~

I Say That
Because Clancy Pendergast has never put out a dominant defense in Arizona (despite having some pretty good talent on hand), because it looks like the Chiefs are moving to a 3-4 (and don’t have the pieces to fit it on the line), and because I don’t think much of the defensive coaching staff the Chiefs have put together.
I think we’ll have a team next year very much like Vermeil’s teams…all offense, porous defense.

I respect that
because its a view point of another chiefs fan! But I disagree, I do not see this defense being like that under Dick, but I see it as a Patriot Defense with a Cardinal Offense~ THAT is what I think they are shooting for, I maybe wrong, but I dont see how~

I agree
Haley himself said we’d be offensively oriented this year, I think Crennel is coming to town next season but until the our offense will have to hold out. This is probably why we haven’t signed any big tickets on the defensive side in FA
Time is a great teacher... unfortunately it kills all it's pupils.
I'd Be Happy With Crennel Here
But until that hire is actually made, I’m not going to give them credit for already making it and I’m going to grade the Chiefs on the people they’ve actually put in place for this season.

I wonder why Joel Collier isn't the defensive backs coach?
That’s what he coached in New England…
Not sure either
He’s had quite a few different coaching gigs.

Regarding Chan Pulling Double Duty
Why? If he’s the full-time offensive coordinator, why not hire a QB coach? Why have him pull double duty?

That point has me puzzled also
I wonder if he is trying to take the opportunity to build a closer relationship with the QB’s we have?
"But what do I know, I'm AP's new assclown and I’m like an empty room with a large ECHO"
The Coach no one talks about~
Maurice Carthon, a RB from the Old School! This guy will be able to COMMUNICATE with LJ, and if its not LJ, whomever we got will be better off with this coach!
Of all the coaches that I liked being hired/fired, this move really made me think about how Pioli is going about it~ He is simply putting together a very nice exp. core of Coaches, the kind of coaches that can blend in, not work alone, but work WITH each other! This core is not so bad considering, this is the first year of our Head Coach and his staff!
NOT SUCH A BAD STAFF, but dayum , I loved the Carthon hiring!
Ol' Kansan' Chief
Maurice Carthon
He was quite possibly the worst offensive coordinator in the NFL during his tenure with the Browns and a lot of that was from his sorely lacking communications skills. His tenure in Arizona was marked by an underachieving running game in a very good offense. Some of that can probably be put on the line (which admittedly had issues) but then he didn’t really do anything to show that he’s an asset to the running game…that’s just an excuse for why he didn’t do a good job.

Didnt know he was hired as the OC
I thought he was and is the RB COACH, something more along his type of experience! He has one thing to work with and work on and that is the CHIEFS RUNNING GAME~ remember that a OC has alot more to worry about than just a Running Game, although I will give it to ya, its a important ingredient in the Offense~
This Coach will be the one to make a difference` IMHO

You Were Pushing His Communications Skills As A Plus
I was pointing out that he didn’t have anything great in the way of communications skills because his players in Cleveland didn’t care for his approach to the game and apparently he couldn’t sell them on it or make them productive.
As for his tenure as RB coach, his running backs got 3.6 yards per carry in 2007 in Arizona and 3.5 this year, despite having a dominant offense both years. The running game was their weak link both seasons. So whatever it was that Carthon did, it didn’t translate into a good performance by the players he was responsible for. Personally, I disliked Carthon’s hiring the most…the only apparent reason that he was hired was because he knows Pioli from the Jets and he played for Bill Parcells for awhile. But his coaching career has been built largely on having the good fortune to be in the same place as Curtis Martin (New England, New York 1995-2000) and he’s done a terrible job whenever he hasn’t worked with Martin. This was a complete buddy hire.
That said, if he bitch-slaps Larry Johnson on the sideline in front of the camera when he pouts, I will officially jump on the Maurice Carthon bandwagon.
