Denver QB Jay Cutler Asks to Be Traded; Chiefs Fans Laugh
![]() |
![]() |
I forget where I read it but someone described this Jay Cutler/Josh McDaniels temper tantrum fight as the gift that keeps on giving, referring to each and every twist of this story that was like turning a knife in the Broncos wound. First, Cutler was angry because he thought the Broncos were trying to trade him. Then they said they weren't. Then Cutler and McDaniels met face to face and both came away with completely different perspectives on the situation.
And now, after a lot of "Cutler said/McDaniels said", Denver quarterback Jay Cutler has asked to be traded. Anyone else just love watching this team go down in flames?
Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler has formally asked to be traded, a request he made Sunday through his agent, Bus Cook. For now, the Broncos are hoping to appease Cutler's concerns and reach an understanding so they do not have to trade him, coach Josh McDaniels told The Denver Post on Sunday night.
The real problem behind all of this? New Denver head coach wanted current Kansas City Chiefs QB Matt Cassel instead of Jay Cutler to be the Denver QB (Peter King breaks this feud down in his MMQB article this morning).
We weren't in there but about 20 minutes, (McDaniels) did most of the talking, and as far as I'm concerned, he made it clear he wants his own guy. He admitted he wanted Matt Cassel because he said he has raised him up from the ground as a quarterback. He said he wasn't sorry about it.
Am I ever glad we got the Scott Pioli, the experienced professional out of New England, and not the in-over-his-head first time NFL head coach.
Just wait. This story will get even better. Now we have two AFC West teams that are disintegrating before our very eyes (The Raiders have been disintegrating for years already). Check out Mile High Report for more on this story.
H/T JayKC for the story and richieguy69 and kc571 for their FanPosts.

worst case scenario
This is awesome, but the worst case scenario would be Denver trading him to Detroit for their first pick and then drafting Aaron Curry.

Best case scenario
KC sends Cassell to Denver, Denver sends cry baby to Tampa and KC gets all the picks involved and also Simms from Denver.

That wouldn't be too bad
sure they’d have Curry, but Chris Simms would be their QB
Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

Nice
Indirectly through the evil genius Pioli we have indirectly contributed to the Donkeys falling apart.

I'm hoping the media isn't blowing this out of proportion
because the whole fiasco seems a bit overly dramatic. If Cutler is really this pissed about the possibility of being traded, then he should find another occupation. Every player in the NFL is up for grabs for the right price…
Also, I wouldn’t be so down on the Raiders, for as pitiful as they’ve been recently, I see them being our biggest competition.
All I have to say is "Thank you, Clark."

C'mon, man.
Even coming off a 2-14 season, you gotta aim a little higher than that.

They have a lot of talent in Oakland
I can’t see them being organized enough to use it properly.

The last time I underestimated the Raiders
they stole our QB and won a superbowl. Gotta keep one eye on those bastiches.

Beetlejuice Davis
Has brought in a boatload of o linemen. Could it be that he and the cableguy have done a 360 and are actually making some smart moves?

Nope
You watch…they’re going to draft Crabtree, even if it means trading up, because he is the sexy pick…just like Russel was…just like McFadden was…
Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

no 40 time to scout him on.
Raiders trade down and take DHB and then the top 5 fastest guys at the combine

And that picture of McDaniels
is hilarious. He looks like he should be running the special olympics version of the Broncos lol.

Is there a special olympics version of the Broncos?
I thought that was just the Broncos.

oh em gee
we SHUOULD totaly trade CAssel for Culter!111onehundredandeleventy
I think the biggest two questions if he goes is where to and who replaces him. I’m not to bothered by where he goes as long as it is outside the division. Who replaces him could be a different matter as that could change the whole dynamic of the division. I don’t even know who his number two in Denver was?

It's amazing .........
how one little story, ( or should i say rumor)has affected this team! This is like a soap opera and im not even going to go there, for one thing Cutler could end up on our team! I hope the guy stays in denver, it would be better for us……….think about it. They could end up with a good qb!
by CPT.Caveman on Mar 16, 2009 7:59 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
The Redskins
They will probably go after Cutler. They’ll sign anyone and give up anything for it. I still think they never should have fired Marty. Looked like he was abou tto turn them around then…

The only thing that could make this story better ...
… is if the Chargers inquire about Cutler and Rivers finds out about it and, similarly, blows up.
by JacinB on Mar 16, 2009 8:07 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
I hope
they do trade him away. Then if McDumbass wants a QB so bad he will probably try to draft one. I doubt he will be willing to give up too much to get up to #1 so they might go after Sanchez and to be honest with you, I don’t think Sanchez is going to make it. The odds are stacked in favor of underclassmen QB’s coming out. Wouldn’t it be great to see the Donkey’s blow a pick on a QB that takes 3 or 4 years to fail?

If'n I were Detroit
If QB were my target with that #1, ’d trade it for Cutler and let Denver take their chances with Stafford.
Despite this recent bout of “I’ll take my ball and go home” that Cutler is having, I believe he is going to be a QB for a long time.
Then we’d get to see Culpepper get frenzied as he is replaced by Cutler as the starter.

What a Whiner Baby
Spent the weekend with a bunch of Donkey fans, and they can’t believe Cutler. They hope he is gone.

Don't be too sure we don't have both
Pioli and a new head coach that’s in over his head. The only difference is ours pissed off an aging veteran on the down side of his career, if it was Bowe that he pissed everyone else in the AFC west would be laughing. I’m not convinced that our coach knows what he’s doing yet. The only decisions he’s had anything to do with are coaches and other than keeping Gailey, he’s picked a bunch of guys with mediocre resumes. I’m still on his side, but I’m worried.

He didn't piss off Waters
Whitlock pissed off Waters by publicizing that story.
Waters came to the front office unannounced on the day that Haley and Pioli were working out the Cassel/Vrabel trade…yeah, they were busy with something more important than Waters.
Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

This is why you don't hire kids to coach kids.
The trend of younger and younger people getting head coaching jobs is not a good one. Handling a team full of multimillion dollar egos takes a certain wisdom and maturity that can only come with age and experience. There’s a reason you have to be 35 to run for president. The same age requirement should apply to being a head coach in the NFL, maybe even 40.
It’s ridiculous how young people are getting head coaching jobs. It’s absurd.

I'm Going To Be The Lone Voice Of Dissent Here
And say that it’s not McDaniels’ fault what’s happening with Cutler…it’s all about Cutler’s agent and Cutler’s contract, in that order
Bus Cook had two of his big meal tickets retire in the last couple of years (Steve McNair, Brett Favre). He’s been passed over by the big names in the 2009 draft for other agents. The other big names on his client roster (Randy Moss, Adalius Thomas, Michael Turner) have likely hit their last big paydays. His only promising prospect to build on for future commissions is Jay Cutler and he’s going to have to wait until 2011 for that to happen now with unrestricted free agency six years off instead of four. And after having the Ken Lucas fiasco blow up in his face, he needs something to happen that will build credibility and allow him to get more clients for other commissions. So it’s in Cook’s best interests to raise a very public stink and get his client a) traded or b) a new contract.
None of this is on McDaniels…this is all Cook and Cutler’s doing. And I hope the Broncos are smart enough to tell Cutler to stick it if he doesn’t wise up, because he isn’t going anywhere.
Predictions for 2009
1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
2. The Lions will draft Matt Stafford, the Rams will draft Jason Smith, and the Chiefs will draft either Aaron Curry or Eugene Monroe.

Two things I know
1. I’m in love with Chiefho
2. Trade Cassel for Cutler and the Donk’s second rounder. Note: just because Cutler has a losing record, doesn’t mean all the losses were on him. He’s actually a great QB.

You guys are pathetic
All these comments making fun of the Broncos and the Chiefs are 2 for their last 26. Look in the mirror Chiefs fans you haven’t won a Super Bowl in 40 years and it aint happening with Matt Cassel retards. Fact is whatever happens in Denver, the Broncos are still better than KC. People laugh because Denver is turning into Patriots West but what about KC turning into Cardinals Midwest. I like Denver’s plans a little better. Matt Cassel is garbage without the New England scheme, you will find out painfully and Thigpen will have to lead the way. Good luck losers. Get a life and talk about your own pathetic team.
