Chiefs Sign LB Corey Mays, Still Looking to Add More Players
The Chiefs agreed to terms with unrestricted free agent linebacker Corey Mays from Cincinnati. Mays is 25 years old and is in his 4th year in the league. He is another player with New England connections:
Mays, who agreed to contract terms Thursday, was known mostly for his special-teams play in his four seasons with New England and Cincinnati.

Mays can help with special teams and backup any of the linebacker positions.
The Chiefs haven't signed many free agents as of yet, but their work is not done. Scott Pioli says the Chiefs are still looking for players to add:
"We’re only in the beginning stages, player acquisition is not limited to just free-agency, and it’s not just the draft. It could be waiver claims, trades, street free agents. It could be anything we see as an opportunity to help this team get better, whether that’s in the locker room or on the field.
"You can never predict what your opportunities are going to be. We’ll keep at it. There are players out there that can help us."
The big name free agents maybe off the market, but there are still players out there that can contribute to this team. This is Pioli's favorite time of free agency, when you can find diamonds in the rough for cheap.

I'm liking these signings
Sure, many of them won’t make the final cut but I like seeing a continuing commitment to the youth movement rather than the NE approach to bringing in big name players who are mostly past their prime. The youth, if they capitalize on their opportunities, will have an opportunity to remain Chiefs for a long time whereas veterans who have been in the league for a while only have so many miles left
I don’t know anything about this kid and off the surface Robertson appears more talented, but I find it interesting Mays played against us in the last game of the season with the Bengals. Also the kid appears to be in line with Pioli’s philosophy of building a smart & fast football team because his NE bio says he lettered in track at Notre Dame and posted a 4.2 grade average. That impresses me

Huh?
he lettered in track at Notre Dame and posted a 4.2 grade average
Exactly how does one get a 4.2 GPA?
Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

measured on a 5.0 scale.
4.2/5.0, better than average.

I think...
…honors classes are weighted (A=5.0, B=4.0, etc…). Not 100% sure.

I thought that was only in high school
at least the college I went to didn’t have honors classes.

Eh, he never has played more than 12 games in a season.
I’m really thinking all these Patriots signings is for the benefit of the other players and future players….to set examples of how the org. views them (as a commodity,no more).
They’re wanting a “shut-up and play” attitude in the locker-room.
I really can’t see this guy doing much of anything looking at his record.

What locations did he leave out, where they look for players?
it’s not just the draft. It could be waiver claims, trades, street free agents
gangs, brothels, prisons…
Oh sorry, I thought he was talking about the Raiders.

Haley actually mentioned those but not specifically when he said: "22 guys off the street"

Let Pioli do his job
I can’t believe so many people are out there already getting out the pitchforks, torches and KY without giving Pioli and Haley a chance to do much of ANYTHING… look if you started a new job and your boss began dry humping you and threatening to fire you if you do not bring in 1 billion dollars in revenue on your first day and the humping and threatening only got more and more frantic on each day, how long would you stay? (To be fair, I have stayed for almost 2 years and counting, now that my boss takes me out to lunch, I don’t mind the dry humping so much!)
Pioli and Haley are NEW, not just to Kansas City but to their positions as well. Give them until at least the regular season before they have to start defending themselves. That’s like electing an official and wondering why our economy isn’t fixed within a month of said official starting…. sorry that was a low blow but the parallels demanded I bring it up.

We're going to have Armies of guys like this
Guys will come off the bench and contribute. We’ll even see some of these kind of players emerge as productive system guys. It isn’t going to be sexy until we start winning games, but it will work in the long run.

Bricks vs Straw
From the way they are going about the business of rebuilding the organization, I’d say that Pioli and Haley are using bricks to lay a firm foundation for years to come rather than use straw to build a quick fix for this year. I’m sure a lot of the critisim that is coming forth is from people who had their hopes up for the previous regime to do a good job and now they are gun shy. The only thing we fans have to gain is better entertainment. Scott and Todd want success more than we fans do. Their jobs depend on it.

4.2
I never heard of a 5.0 scale but I have heard of higher than 4.0 averages.

I’d’ve thunk he was the guy on television shilling OxyClean.

what a joke
After watching this guy play at ND, I would be suprised if he could even tie his shoes correctly.

More stats
located here.
Mays’ stats at Notre Dame were as follows:
45 games played, 12 games started
113 total tackles
65 solo
48 assisted
16.5 tackles for a loss (total of 61 yards lost – 3.7 yards per loss)
7 sacks (total of 39 yards – 5.6 yards per loss)
4 forced fumbles
Looks as though he only started one game his second year (as a junior – he was a 5 year athlete), then didn’t start again until his senior year, but started all 11 games that year. His first season he only played special teams, and his second and third seasons were “primarily on special teams” according to the website. His senior year he was second on the team in tackles
He also blocked 2 kicks, deflected two passes and had four fumble recoveries in his career.
