Chiefs ARE going to run the 3-4
Herm Edwards was a guest on 810 radio today with Keitzman and said that the chiefs are in fact going to run the 3-4 this coming year. He mentioned that he and his staff had even considered going to the 3-4 as the year was "dwindling" away. He went on to say that Scott Pioli is very comfortable drafting those type of players and picking them from free agency.
Herm's tone sounded like it was a sure thing and you would think he would have a good idea of what Pioli's plans would since he worked with him for 3 weeks and Scott probably told Herm his direction for the football team. When asked about Dorsey and how he would fit in he said that he had no doubt Dorsey could play the nose tackle and be very good but he wasnt for sure on how exectly they would use him. That part kind of just sounded like Herm being Herm and being a positive guy though.
So there it is boys, we finally have some halfway credible "(former)inside" information that the 3-4 will indeed now be run in red and gold....its been conhermed

Herm is a moron, if I wanted to hear what he had to say, I'd watch NFL live
Sorry Patrick Allen…
Three things, and only three things have me convinced we’re going 3-4.
1. Schefter reported it, as of this second, he’s the most reliable NFL reporter out there.
2. The acquisition of Vrabel. A perfect complementary player if we’re moving to the 3-4.
3. Pioli’s history and familiarity with the system.
So I agree with you, we’re going 3-4 this year, even though I don’t think its in our best interests this season, it is in our long term best interests, so while I think the transition will be tough, I’m on board.
“…he said that he had no doubt Dorsey could play the nose tackle and be very good…”
-right, just like he had “no doubt” that Brody Croyle was capable of leading the chiefs to the future…
Don’t get me wrong, Herm is a great guy, but I’ll look elsewhere for player predictions.
I can't wait for training camp
to see what positions the players are playing. I’m dying to know if Dorsey will be a DE or DT… and if we’re gonna use Tank and Turk. Personally I think Turk-Tank-Dorsey could be a dominant d-line in a few years.
I'm not sure Hali can play OLB in a 3-4
but if so, that could be interesting
Turk – Tank – Dorsey
Hali – Curry – Johnson – Vrabel
Carr – Page – Pollard – Flowers
Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.
You can mark me down as disappointed
Really disappointed, if thats our starting D next season.
There’s no reason to believe that it would lead to a huge improvement. I’m as big a fan as any of Curry’s, and the LB core would be better, but Hali has no chance, IMO at playing OLB. We need a new starter there.
We have to bring in more DL guys too, and I’m sure we will, I’m not ready to say that Turk – Tank – Dorsey are busts at all. But that trio as a starting unit, I just can’t see it happening after last seasons debacle.
I agee with you Vince.
We have a slew of 1st and 2nds on the dline. This is a good young group. Heck, they’ve still wet behind the ears. They were poorly used the last couple of years. Coach ‘em up and throw ’em out there. They’ll be fine.

The Chiefs 3-4
Well right not the Chiefs have switched to a 3-4 in my 2009 version of Madden. I traded for Vrabel and Cassel and drafted a top rookie prospect named Weaver (Curry) who clocks in at an 88 rating. So the LB are “Curry”, Williams, DJ and Vrabel. Curry, DJ and Vrabel are playing pretty well and Williams is useless. However, DJ always has played better in Madden than he does in real life.
Dorsey is struggling but the pass rush from the LB is producing sacks.
Obviously this means nothing but it kind of fun to see how the teams electronic counter parts are performing in the 3-4.

Curry is an OLB?
Curry can play all the LB positions! But is projected as an OLB because of his size-speed ratio and strength, in the NFL.
Brian Welch
Sure
He could play OLB or ILB or DE, I’m sure he could play SSafety and NT or Center.
But what is trained at and what did he play in College. Why draft a guy and then move him to a new position? Let’s just draft Curry and put him at Left Tackle he COULD do that too. But WHY. ILB

There are better ILB that played ILB. Draft him as OLB/DE Rush is all I'm Saying.

No their aren't
For ILB in this draft Curry is far and away rated the tops. Malaluga is ranked second. Most people have those 2 going in the top 10 of the draft. The next ILB Laurintis (spelling?) is a drop all the way to the bottom of the first round and maybe as far as top of the second round. After that the ILB’s take a really big drop off in brains and skill sets. You are left with specialists that are really good at one thing and servicable at others with questionable football smarts that get by more on athletic ability.
However OLB is deep in this years draft. There are quite a few high ranked OLB/DE pass rusher types ranked all through the first 3 rounds.

Actually he is projected as an ILB in a 34, Sam Backer in a 43
He has good quickness and great transition moves and hip control. On top of that he’s a very “football smart” player that has shown he has more than just athletic ability going for him. He’s a great gap protector and comes in hard and fast to stuff his gap and stop the run. He has shown some ability to rush, but his biggest strengths show up in reading a play and coverage.
He certainly can rush, and most the scout types are saying he could play either ILB or OLB in the NFL but that his natural position would be ILB.

Texas Chief
I agree that he is the Best LB. But do you draft an ILB at #3 with the Req. QB/OT/Rush DE/LB?
That is my question :)

If I'm the Chiefs
I draft the best defensive player on the board that can play in both the 34 and the 43 systems.
We need an immediate starters at LB, DE, OT/OG or OC to come out of the draft.
We need a guy that will be around for the long haul and has the potential to be a great.
And… Because we are transitioning from the 43 to a 34 I’d want to draft a guy that can fit in either scheme so that we can use them NOW while we are in transition mode to learn the system from the ground up.
If Curry is available at #3 and we don’t trade down to add more picks I don’t even think it’s a debate, we take Curry.
If not we take OT.

Your word is gospel
I hope that Curry is there at # 3
We will use him as we wish 4ever
