Daniel Holtzclaw Update
I just wanted to let you guys know how this young man is doing prior to the draft. Many of you know the story behind him and I wanted to keep up with what he's been doing, so I found a way to send him a message. Here is his reply to my email.
Re: Draft
Lanier63,
I just got done with my training session at NJ (Test sports club) and currently back at school where I am continuing to train till my pro day (March 16th). As far as my career goes, I had a blast at Eastern Michigan. I could really say I have no regrets. I had a great four year career but I do wish I could of got a conference ring out of it. I'm a little disappointed about the combine and not getting an invite. Looking at the people who got invited, there were 4 USC players, and one who started his last yr 10 out of their 14 games and had 50-60 tackles. Must be politics ha... With that said I'm just working hard to perfect my pro day. I'm looking to run a 4.5 or no later 4.6, shuttle times should be anywhere from 4.2, 4.1 range or lower and 3 cones should be 6.8 range. (our surface we are running on is a track surface which I am a little hesitant because of the cutting and traction) Bench should be 30. If you have anymore questions be sure to ask.
Daniel Holtzclaw
Inside Linebacker, Eastern Michigan
6-1 , 246 - 107 tackles, 1 Int, 4.5 Tackles for loss, 1 Sack, 1 Qb Hurry, 1 FF
As of right now, I have seen him slated to be picked between 6 and 7th rounds. I think it was very unfortunate for him not to get an invite to the combine and that is just my opinion. I do not know how the players are chosen, but I actually think that there has to be some politics to it.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

Do you like this story?
Comments
Lanier63 I know you gave updated on him every week but
I do not know the story of why. I also know there are a lot of new people on the site, thanks to yahoo, that would probably like to know the story also. Do you personally know him or is it someone you heard about and followed even though he was not known nationally. Either way he looks like a could be a real steal even though he isn’t rated very high.
Prime can you find the link to this?

Read this first
This one, particularly the section on MLB Holtzclaw.

Thanks for the links
Now I see why you followed him. Not only is he good but he was not satisfied with being a mid round player with back-up potential. Along this email you got to love his attitude. He seems like a very good prospect.
That was fun to read that old thread
funny to think about how many things have changed since we all posted there
:)
Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.
Hey it s a man crush!
Be sweet! :)

Dude sounds like a Pioli guy all the way…
Go Chiefs!!
Smart kid
….great answers. I’d take him. As long as he gave 100% like he has done, I don’t see it as being a bad move. Getting drafted changes some players and I think it might be unlikely that would happen to him.
It’s refreshing seeing an articulate athlete that seems to understand his role on and off the field.
I hope we get him. AND IF HE READ’S THIS….he owe’s everyone on this thread a drink if he becomes a Chief :)
Good Luck Daniel!

Looking promising
Chris Horwedel: What’s more important to you in the beginning of your NFL career: Being on a great team or being able to play early on?
Daniel Holtzclaw: I would like to play early. I’m a guy that likes to compete and contribute to the team as much as possible. I want to be able to make a name for myself as soon as possible.
Well if we draft him, regardless of whether we stay 4-3 or switch to 3-4, he’ll play early – as in starting Game One at either MLB or ILB

I would love to pick this guy up in the 6th
I’ve seen mocks a few months ago that had him going 4th round… too bad he wasn’t invited to the combine.
He would officially
Take Studebaker and De La Puente’s title as Teams Best Last Name…that is of course if we dont draft Iglesias or Chung…
Go Chiefs!!
I just emailed him again to let him know I posted his reply
and he said he would love to play for the Chiefs. His hometown is in Oklahoma.

Awesome job, Lanier.
And thanks for continuing to track him.

No seriously.
“Track” him down. He must be a great guy to respond to your e-mail. He sounds like a steal and I hope the Arrowhead 1 has him on their radar.
I would only do this type of thing for the members of AP! :)

What post did you do the lawyer jokes on?
I wanted to share them and can’t remember where they are?
A fellow KC star guy might need some humor about now. Thanks
