Keys to a good offense.
We need something we have been missing for three years now, a dominant o-line. Yes we need other pieces, but it all starts in the trenches, run or pass it starts there. Trent Green, not a hall of fame qb, but behind a fantastic o-line put up 4000+ three years straight, comparable to Peyton Mannings numbers. Here is the question, under the tutelage of Chan Gailey, Todd Hailey, can Bones improve enough to put up those kinds of numbers? Here is another question can Haley help Will Franklin improve the way he did Fitzgerald? If we take Crabtree, we have Bowe, he will need to improve also, but anyway Franklin is a burner, we give him time to get down the field, with Bowe, Crabtree, assuming TG stays, how would you defend that? That would open up the run game as well. It is all contingent on whether or not there is time for this to develop, so I believe the o-line has to be a major priority this off season, whether it is the draft or free agency.

Good point.
With that kind of firepower, the rushing attack would open up. Like you said, we have to build a great line and then we can beat good teams. I’m a bit worried about the defense at this point, so we need to sure that up. I don’t see Thiggy starting for some reason though.

Who would we have as a qb?
Warner says it is AZ or nowhere.
Now hopefully this team is fun to watch again! Thanks Scott, Clark!!

There seems to be a lot of assumptions on here
…one being that Herm’s 85% of the squad (or is it 90 or 95%) is staying. I think the numbers is going to be dramatically different.
In regards to the O-line. Let’s do a little trivia.
This team went 1-4 last year. Were criticized for having a horrible O-line by their local media. Their QB was on his butt most of those 5 games. Finally adjustments were made on the O-line (as well as the QB ingetting rid of the ball quicker)….the team than won 10 games in a row. Who am I describing?

Excellent...yes it was the Colts
Soooo, we can scream that we need a line (and I agree). Coaching will be a necessity. Adjustments will be mandatory. But we also need someone that you can envision that’ll spread the ball around. Haley WILL want the ball spread around…a lot. I have no problem if he feels Thigpen is the answer…but the question remains, can he spread the numbers around like AZ has done?
This Offense is going to be sooooo different in ’09.

I think Thigpen can
He seemed to be good at spreading the ball around, in spite of the fact that he basically had no business throwing it to anyone other than TG or Bowe =)

Yeah,,,and that's the problem
we just don’t know. Everyone knows my criticism of the kid…that’s no secret. Is still remember seeing him jump in the air as he was throwing his first TD pass to TG.
I’m totally against GIVING him the job, but have no problems if he WINS the job.
Now that we have Pioli and Haley, there shouldn’t be any argument either way if they decide to stick him in as a starter, 2nd, 3rd or trade him. The ord. has changed and I’m fine with any decision they make.

Colts, etc.
Colts weren’t 1-4, Manning pulled a couple games out of his a8s at the beginning of the year they should have lost.
Anyway, Jeff Saturday getting healthy and back in the lineup, was the #1 key to the Colts offense coming together.
Also, there was a great piece, I believe on Inside the NFL…or maybe Countdown, on Manning and his recovery from offseason surgery, how much his game changed over the 1st half of the season. He was in bad shape to start the season.
But if your point is the OL is the key, I’m on board.
My ideal #3 pick is still Andre Smith, simply because I think he is a prototype RT in the NFL. A beast of a run blocker, and solid enough pass block to play on the right side. If he’s available I still want him, if he’s not, I’d take Curry.
You can stick me in the skeptical camp on taking Crabtree, for a team with as many holes as the Chiefs have, taking a WR seems doubtful.

And that's a "slow" start?
The Day Herm Edwards didn't get his team ready to beat the Raiders at Arrowhead is the day he kissed his job goodbye.

Colts record
Weren’t the Colts 3-4 before the won 9 straight to finish the season 12-4?

The Colts had 3 of their 5....
Starting Linemen out with injuries, and added a 4th a game after the 2nd got back.
The Chiefs had 4 of their starters for 14 games, and I believe the 5th guy only missed 3 starts through the course of the season.
This is not a valid comparision

There was a long thread about injuries not being a factor in the NFL
it was a good read. Using the injury excuse doesn’t fly since guess what….most of the teams in the playoffs had more injuries than a lot of other teams that weren’t even close.

Can't wait
I can’t wait for free agency! Whether we go for help on offense or defense in free agency will drastically influence the draft. I would like to know how the free agents look as far as our needs such as RDE, LB, G, RT, QB and center.
