Todd Haley's Record with Wide Receivers
Kansas City Chiefs new head coach Todd Haley broke into the NFL in 1995 as a wide receivers coach which has been his specialty ever since. Working as a wide receivers coach for the New York Jets, Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys, Haley demonstrated an ability to effectively communicate his message to the players.
Just how effective has he been with wide receivers? Let's take a look at the stats of his top 3 wide receivers at each of his stops in the NFL and see how his coaching has fared.

Hopefully he can come in...
whip Franklin and Bradley into shape so we can use our #3 pick to address a real need.
Hopefully
His last 4 years he’s had at least 1 1,000 yard WR and 1 800+ yard WR. I didn’t count TEs (i.e. Jason Witten) in this, either.
Good point
and he had a “General” that spread the ball around.
Bill Parcell’s: "You are what your record says you are."
"My job is not to collect talent, but to build a team. Individuals make the Pro Bowl. Teams win championships. That is our goal."—Chiefs GM Scott Pioli.
Another good point
and actually, that seemed to be one of Thigpen’s strengths all along, even before the Arrowspread
Let's see if Haley and Pioli see's it that way in training camp
I don’t see him having 3 WR’s/TE’s with 1000 yards. OTOH, he might be throwing through 4 hanging tires 8 hrs. a day in the offseason getting ready for camp and blows the other QB’s away.
Sports is a funny thing. Anything can happen.

Thigpen may or may not be the guy
I was just saying that compared to Huard and Croyle, who maybe hit 3 guys a game, I think Thigpen had several games where he complete passes to like seven different receivers – which is pretty impressive considering we didn’t have that much receiving talent outside of Bowe and TG…
Thigpen
better be working on his game over the course of the offseason. I want him to be able to compete with whoever Pioli brings in. Hopefully Haley gives him the chance to grab the starting spot, but he needs to be pushed with a fair competition. Let the best guy win, and im hoping that guy will be Thigpen.
That's most likely a product of Gailey's play calling
Thigpen never had the time to check off on that many options. Remember, Gailey’s a thinker. :)
Three one-thousand yard receivers.
Gotta give it to him, he put together a good offense.
Now hopefully this team is fun to watch again! Thanks Scott, Clark!!
perspective
He had a good offense that had three 1000 yard receivers, but was last in the league in rushing, went 9-7 in the regular season wining the pathetic NFC West, and lost the Super Bowl.
Now I’m not knocking Haley, and I’m really excited, just sayin’ – three 1000 yd receivers looks different when you consider only 70 something yards/game running the ball.
Yeah, but you can't have both
As much as the ball was tossed to achieve those numbers, another aspect of the game had to suffer….running.

Hey, 9-7 would've won the AFC West this year too!
Although, I can understand why that would be a concern. Plus, wasn’t it mainly Arizona’s defense that was a problem during the regular season?
That,
and they sat on their ass when you guys whooped them. Gave them the wake up call they needed….

Actually
The play calling started in the beginning of the game before the Cardinals were getting beat. He went away from the run very early. Then again, we weren’t using Edge much the second half of the season.
Hey, hey, hey hey hey, watch the language, ok? I have a family.
Revenge of the Birds
Not sure if it was personnel or the system
But we have to be fair and point out they were last in rushing. Sorry PV, I was writing while you were posting.
We need a future defensive leader, his name is James Laurinaitis and he can be selected in round 1 of the upcoming Draft.
Ok already, if you don't agree with what I am saying, just don't email my mom again. She beat the crap out of me with my keyboard!
"But what do I know, I’m like an empty room with a large ECHO"
So What about Boldin
They’ve already played together, he’s unhappy with his contract, and wants out of AZ…. Any thoughts?
Boldin
is still under contract. Pioli and co. would have to give quite a bit for him. He’s 28 which is by no means old but how many top tier years does he have left? I doubt that we make a trade for him. We have too many holes to trade away a lot of picks for an aging WR. Hed be great but id rather see us take Crabtree than trade for Boldin.
Am I the only one
concerned with the number of INT’s in may of those years just mentioned? Some years more INT’s than TD’s.
Assuming that was due to QB problems let’s not see that trend in KC.

You think Favre never threw an INT?
He leads the NFL in INTs but he also leads in a lot of other key areas. Throwing the ball downfield and getting TDs as a result is central to scoring points and winning games, throwing the odd INT is part of the risk.
Blame my wife!
The numbers
make it even more crucial to focus on the defense this offseason. I think it’s great when they take chances downfield and score, but we can’t rely on the defense do anything other than give up 7 every time there’s a INT.

Suppose to happen this afternoon
one o'clock fellas, fox 4 in KC is carrying it live.
I would imagine ESPN, and the NFL Network will to.
Now hopefully this team is fun to watch again! Thanks Scott, Clark!!
Watch for me please.
The only way this could be better is if he had Krut Warner and Jared Allen standing next to him with contracts in hand

I have tried working an inside job.....
I just could not handle being indoors. In July, and August, and winter months I kind of wish I could handle it.
Now hopefully this team is fun to watch again! Thanks Scott, Clark!!
I worked with concrete
a few years back, still kind of miss it even though it really did suck. But I’m happy where I’m at most of the time, get to travel and it pays well, so what the heck.

All I have to say is "Thank you, Clark."

Haley was with the Jets in 1995, but he didn’t actually start coaching the WRs until the 1997 season (I think). Prior to that, he was on the scouting side.
