Donnie Edwards.  Vrable.  Pioli cuts Donnie and brings in Vrable.  Vrable is probably decending just like Donnie.

Pioli's first  player picked up is from his old team the Patroits. Carl Peterson was familiar with  Donnie and thought he would come in and be a great leader. Pioli probably thinks the same thing about Vrable.

The problem is that these two good players were surrounded by other good vetran players.  The Chiefs need to quit trying to plug in leaders.  Leaders need to emerge from within. Young players are not going to be inspired by these guys they are going to be intimidated which will cause them to hesitate.

If we are going to bring in free agents lets' stick with young ones.  Let this team find it's own identity.

I hope Vrable works out but it sure seems like we've been here before. I'm not impressed with Pioli's conservitive moves so far.

Vrabel vs. Donnie Edwards

The difference between the two is….that we are switching to a 3-4 defense and Vrabel will be a coach on the field.

I don’t like the fact that we went out and got an old guy but in this case, it probably has to happen.

I do like you thought about having the leaders emerge though. But Vrabel will help speed up the learning curve…hopefully that is.

i think you are right on JZ

When Donnie came back to KC a couple of years ago he was thrown into the Cover 2 scheme that Edwards installed and it didn’t really fit. Vrabel is a better fit for this 3-4/4-3 “hyrbrid” defense and he still has something left in his tank.

Honestly I doubt Pioli brought him over to KC to help out NE’s cap space. I’m going to trust Pioli’s choice on this.

Signing the big names

is not how Pioli operates. He did not do that in NE and I dont understand why people think that is going to change now.

By the way

The skins always are signing these big money guys… How’s that workin out?

+1

Used to live in DC. The money they threw at players was ridiculous. Also ridiculous was the number of 8-8 seasons they had.

Two top FA O lineman gone

What about Jahri Evans and Ray Willis?

I tkink I rememeber that Jahri is RFA but what are we going to spend the Cap on?
The NFL doesn’t like leaches and I hope KC isn’t one of those.
The Draft should already be factored in we need to spend 20-25M in FA.
4M to help out NE isn’t cutting IT.

Hooray.

I absolutely agree with you. And anyone that says Pioli doesn’t sign big name Fa’s is an idiot. Moss? Seriously i don’t understand how we’re going to fill all this cap space with a bunch of 2nd and 3rd tier players. At the moment I’m truly feeling that we’re going to be worse off this year than we were last year.

by McWhirt33 on Feb 27, 2009 8:42 PM CST reply actions

Moss

was acquired via trade and his contract wasn’t renegotiated until he became a FA, or right before FA.

However, word is that we were on the shortlist on bidding for Haynesworth, so yes, Pioi is willing to spend the dough on the right players.

by Sudden on Feb 27, 2009 8:44 PM CST up reply actions

Pff.

Excuse me on the trade error, but…Oh great. so we were one of the 6 plus teams bidding on Haynesworth yet of course he didnt come here. And all that is is a rumor about us bidding on Haynesworth and the top 2 players were obviously Washington and Tampa. So yes we may have thrown an offer in there but I’m guessing it was some pathetic little offer just for the heck of it since we really didnt seem to make much of an effort even with all the cap space we have.

Oh and Haynesworth is the right type of player? Totally disagree. Watch his stats fall off after this year. He’s a talented player yes, but look at his stats prior to the previous 2 seasons.. nothing special. If we would have dropped money on a selfish player like him i would have been just as upset as i am now.

Dont look

at his stats look at his teamates stats next year

worse?

I don’t think so. Our rookies now have 1 yr. of experience. They learned a lot.

If we were a year away from the super bowl, then yes lets sign big name FAs

but we have awhile to go. Plus I have a feeling we are gonna bring in some pretty big names anyway.

by Vince D on Feb 27, 2009 8:45 PM CST reply actions

I agree!

The Chiefs have been down for so long that I think the people are looking for a Miami like turn around and I don’t think that is the way it is gonna work.
