Colts don't extend offer to Freddy Keiaho

The Colts did not extend a restricted free agent tender to LB Freddie Keiaho, meaning he'll hit unrestricted free agency.
A big surprise. Keiaho, 26, started the last two seasons on the weak side and led the club in tackles in 2008

via rotoworld.com

I don't know much about him, but he seems like he could be a good pick up. He's played the middle, which we need, and they say he could do well outside, so he seems like a good fit if we ran a hybrid D. Plus, he's only 26!

Dont know anything about the guy

but knowing our LB corp Im sure he could come in and look like an all world linebacker. If he’s a team guy, that plays with ferocity, lets make it happen.

Ew wait

he’s 5’11" 226 pounds. Thats kind of small for a MLB or SLB he’s gotta play weak and the only guy that should be starting in our linebacking core starts there… Whattya think Texas Chief

I don't know anyone

who outright deserves a starting spot out of our LB’s. DJ maybe, but I’d take someone better if they came along. I would think Keiaho would be a decent pickup.

All I have to say is "Thank you, Clark."

What is a cover 2 LB?

Cover 2 is is a coverage scheme. It refers to the coverage that the D-backs play. It has nothing to do with the front 7.
The only LB that is affected by a cover 2 scheme is the MLB. The MLB would have to be fast enough to increase his area of responsibility. So, I have no idea what a “cover 2” linebacker is.

He’s a little on the small side, but he’s pretty quick. If you go back and look at Colts game tape you will see him around the ball a lot. The Colt predicate their defense on SPEED. The overal size of their D is generally much smaller then the O’s they play against. The Colt scheme relies much more heavily on quickness and speed. They swarm the ball carrier, rather than match up strength for strength and physically dominate the opponent.

I’m really not sure on Freddy for the Chiefs. Scot Pioli and Clancy Penderghast are not returning my phone calls to inform me what style of defense they plan on running. So I don’t know if we are shopping for speed or physicality. However, judging by Pioli’s saying he wants “Big, Tough, Smart” players I tend to believe that the Chiefs style will be more geared to domination than speed.

What is a cover 2 LB?

It is a smaller, quick LB that has strong coverage skills and is a pretty good tackler. I’m not the only one who uses that term either, check PFW’s list of top FA he is the 14th ranked LB and they call him a cover 2 LB, they also refer to another backer as a Cover 2 OLB.

You are refering to the Tampa 2, that is where the MLB has a deep coverage zone, almost making it a Cover 3. In the Cover 2 the LB each cover their third of the field. Nice try though.
