Cuts, Round 2
More cuts are on the way. Who are likely suspects to get the axe? Perhaps these four will be next.
Larry Johnson - RB - $5,656,190 (2008 cap value) - no stats needed
Ron Edwards - DT - $1,850,000 (2008 cap value) - 9 tackles, 0 starts
Jon McGraw - S - $695,000 (2008 cap value) - Herm's gone
Devard Darling - WR - $1,335,853 (2008 cap value) - Carl Peterson's gone
What are your thoughts on the next round of cuts?

NO, backup LT and RT
Unless there are CAP issues. We need backups Just IN Case.

it would actually be cheaper to keep him
and he’s a great backup for both tackle positions

$50 million under the cap
Tells me there is zero reasons to cut McIntosh. It also would be a good idea to bring in someone better than the guy you want to cut before you cut him.

LJ will NOT get cut
He’s too valuable to cut… Scott Pioli said it, “Larry is under contract.” Thats that. If that means he’s gonna stay, fine… If that means that we’ll trade him, better… But he will not get cut. We’d be pretty stupid to cut him and not get anything from his value.
I know that you're afraid... you're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin.

He's not too valuable to cut
We would lose about 800k if he weren’t on the team.
I would not be surprised one bit if he was cut. In fact, I’d be a little surprised if he wasn’t.

Ha-ha!
What!? I bet he’ll be valuable to another team. How does anyone think it’s smarter to cut LJ which gets you nothing, than to trade him and get value for him? I don’t understand that. Makes NO sense what so ever!

Trade to who?
Gotta have a trading partner first. Everyone in the world knows LJ doesn’t want to be here. He doesn’t fit in with what the Chiefs are doing.
He is so far devalued I can’t imagine we would get anything for him. Maybe a 6th rounder or something. And at this point that might be generous.
by Joel Thorman on Feb 25, 2009 8:03 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
exactly
+1.
I’ll take the minor cap hit to be rid of him. Obviously, if we can get a 6th out of him we’d go that route.

6th rounder!?!
Ha-ha! Wow… That’s ridiculous, boys. C’mon get real. Of course I nor does anyone know what team we’re gonna trade him to, that is IF we even let him, (which doesn’t look too likely). I mean, don’t you guy read Scott Pioli’s statement?? He said it himself. When asked “What about the situation with Larry Johnson?” and what did he say?? He basically said, “What situation? There is NO situation. Larry is under contract. Thats that.”
And if we can’t get any value for LJ, then he’ll have to stay and we’ll run him til he’s runs outta KC.

I’ve never heard of him being a locker room disturbance, just a front office one. If he holds out let him hold out it’d be cheaper to keep him if were getting no value out of it. I wouldn’t want to be giving his services to another team for free! He’ still pretty good

No One is But
He is still productive, unless he will have to miss games due to suspensions.
by Steve_Chiefs on Feb 25, 2009 7:52 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
He has already been suspended. The NFL wont pull a double jeopardy on him.

If he is convicted of a crime in his upcoming court case
then he will most likely face a suspension from the league

800 k
Is that the cap hit we would take if we cut LJ?
by JZChiefsfan on Feb 25, 2009 8:43 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
No
That’s the difference between cutting him and keeping him on the team next year.
by Joel Thorman on Feb 26, 2009 8:55 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Why cut McGraw?
he is a pretty good special teams player.
by TXroyal on Feb 25, 2009 6:52 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Yeah
And with that salary there’s no reason to get rid of him.

I thought he was working at Price Chopper?
We need a future defensive leader, his name is James Laurinaitis and he can be selected in round 1 of the upcoming Draft.

No Herm means McGraw probably goes
We can use a late round pick or a sign an undrafted free agent and spend half of what we are spending on McGraw. I doubt we would see a huge difference on special teams and we hope McGraw would be geting less playing time on defense as Dajuan Morgan steps up.

LJ will be traded

He needs to stay
With the new O Coordinators and mindset, he will be productive again.
by TXChiefan on Feb 26, 2009 7:20 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
LJ has almost no trade value right now. If Pioli can’t talk him into being part of an up and coming team I can see the Chiefs holding onto him until the free agent money dries up and then just cutting him.
Mcgraw is a good special teamer and probably stays.
by kongzilla on Feb 25, 2009 7:15 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Darling I think
Edwards if we can’t fit him in plans. Could be backup NT though.
by Steve_Chiefs on Feb 25, 2009 7:59 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
I wouldn't be surprised to see LJ come back
If they stick with the Arrowspread I can see them letting him go, but I think we will be leaning back towards a little more conventional NFL offense. Haley still likes to throw the ball a lot in spread formations, but I don’t think we’ll see it as much as we did last year.
Also if the Chiefs draft a QB of the future they are going to want a RB to take the pressure off him.
LJ is a punk, but if Pioli thinks he has value to this team on the field he’ll get him straightened out. There are ways of bringing players in line without cutting them.
by ChiefDJ on Feb 25, 2009 8:11 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
I agree
Plus the fact that Haley knows the importance of a balanced game. Remember the playoffs? He brought back the run to throw defenses off balance and to help control the clock.
Plus we don’t have the weapons that the Cardinals had. We can’t just pass all the time. IMO, I think we will run a more conventional offense as well.

I sometimes hope that LJ can't read.
Who might wan’t to see all this. But you make the bed….
by Steve_Chiefs on Feb 25, 2009 8:22 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
They don’t need LJ. Nearly every team in the league is going to 2 or 3 backs. They will shore up the line and go from there. I think LJ can be a top back again but they won’t keep him around if he’s whining all the time.
by kongzilla on Feb 25, 2009 9:18 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Other players?
Who are other likely cuts? Okay, maybe we don’t cut LJ. Do we cut Demorrio Williams? Do we cut Alfonso Boone? I think Edwards is more likely to be cut than Boone. We need at least a couple of new players on the defensive line so someone needs to go. Boone can play two positions and has some value at both, whereas Edwards has just about fallen out of the rotation.
by pleaseblock on Feb 26, 2009 6:58 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
We don't have to cut
The roster doesn’t have to be set until Aug, so until we get the FAs and draft picks working into the new scheme, I don’t see us cutting people unless they are really of no value.
by TXChiefan on Feb 26, 2009 7:23 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
LJ is not going anywhere.
I will almost guarantee we will see him next year on the field. Regardless of how we all feel about him, ( I cant believe I am saying this) He is one of the best players on this team. With a little improvement on the line and the Chiefs mixing up the formations a little better, LJ will be killing it again. Seriously, the guy can play.
