Around SBN: Tottenham's Plans for Northumberland Stadium Approved

The National Football Post has just been informed that the Miami Dolphins and linebacker Channing Crowder have agreed on a new multi-year contract.

A four-year veteran out of the University of Florida, Crowder had 113 tackles for the 11-5 Dolphins last season.

More details to follow.

I wanted Crowder soooooo bad. is Brown and Bart Scott the only desirable free agents left?

by SayHeyWerd on Feb 25, 2009 6:49 PM CST reply actions

more likely to get a center in the 2nd round of the draft

bart scott would be amazing but I just don’t know if we’ll make it happen.

Vae Victis!

Ha

5:48, huh? LOL…too bad. I wanted him as well.

I hope nobody is surprised by this

It’s likely to happen with most of the big names that have been thrown around here. FA is going to be surprisingly bland for the Chiefs.

Yep

I suspect Bart Scott will be wrapped up by March 1st.

You're right

And we have ALL of that CAP space. What are we gonna do with it?

I can see us picking up some more Cardinals as Antonio Smith and maybe J.J. Arrington are acquired.

mid-tier FA's

that are mid-career. Mid value middle of the road kind of guys. It’s going to apply towards the overall team concept. Big name guys aren’t going to play much of a role. The system will make the players. Mark my words.

Except that we have no system

Don’t make the mistake of giving Pioli all the credit for how the Patriots are. That’s 95% Bill Bellichick who last I checked was not a Chief.

by ChiefDJ on Feb 25, 2009 7:59 PM CST up reply actions

95%?

Interesting figure….I don’t think anyone knows who had the most to do with what. From what I’ve heard/read, it was a joint effort but Belichick did have final say. Pioli even said they agreed on pretty much everything.

I assumed Buck'O was talking about the "system" of how players play on the field

Since he said:

Big name guys aren’t going to play much of a role. The system will make the players.

That has nothing to do with Pioli since once they’re signed he has little to do with the players. Making a group of average players play together as a great unit is the coaches job.

The coach makes the system and right now, we don’t even know who our D.C. is.

by ChiefDJ on Feb 25, 2009 8:22 PM CST up reply actions

Damn that SUCKS

But was expected. Crowder is a Florida guy, I didn’t expect to see him leave the state.

Next!

It would be sweet to land Brown, so we can shore up some defense in the draft! But the Ravens front office is smart and they are playoff contenders. So it only makes sense that he would stay there. Probably just going to be another let down before FA starts.

Shiznit.........

Tim Tebow.....concrete cyanide. Thanks jg.

There is always the Shaun Rogers option

If he can get out of Cleveland. There is also the possibility of aquiring Cassel who we would have to pay 14 million plus give up draft picks. There are still decent FA available. Scott hasn’t signed yet even knowing they are speculating he will. There are still a couple of good offensive lineman we could pick up that would definately improve our line.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

why does this keep happening to me!!!!

actually I was anticipating this free agency sucks lately

Time is a great teacher... unfortunately it kills all it's pupils.

Good

He’s a fin fan favorite and was seriously overrated. The big tackle numbers are mostly a reflection of him cleaning up what the d-line couldn’t finish. Kawika Mitchell did the same thing when he was here. No thanks.

Plus, there’s a ton of LB talent in the draft this year. No need to spend FA bucks on a guy like Crowder (even though everyone here seems to have adopted the “spend ’em if you got ’em!” mentality).

I'm inclined to agree

He’s an injury risk and commonly described as a two-down player. He could play a role, but I don’t think he’s the big-name player some people here made him out to be.

Something I wanna bring to the table

Work with me here;
Some players may be more inclined to stay put for a few reasons not mentioned. Like it or not the economy may be playing into this years free agency. The Chiefs have had two seasons now with below average attendance, I have heard. Even though we may have a lot of cap space, a few teams may be telling these guys, you dont know how stable thier ownership is because they are not getting the attendance they should be. Even though that is not true in KC, the players may be less likely to take a chance elsewhere. And with the change in management and coaching, they may not feel good about the “non disclosure” of what schemes we will run offensively and defensively. We have no idea what the teams and agents are telling these guys. I’m just trying to explain all the signings, I don’t know.

We need a future defensive leader, his name is James Laurinaitis and he can be selected in round 1 of the upcoming Draft.
