Kansas City Chiefs Draft Retrospective: 1998-2005
Last year around this time Chris revisted the 1998 through 2005 drafts by the Kansas City Chiefs. He went player-by-player, year-by-year and graded each draft pick and each overall draft.
In that time frame the Chiefs drafted 27 defensive players and 28 offensive players.
There's no new information here or anything in the way of "analysis". With draft talk heating up, I thought this might be an interesting (or painful) topic worth revisiting.
We all know how "terrifying" the Chiefs defense has been as of late so keep that in mind as you sift through the draft picks during this time period.
So click through and agree or disagree with Chris' grades, wallow in our drafting ineptitude for the last decade and think about how low the bar has been set for Scott Pioli and his first draft with the Chiefs.

This debacle was orchestrated by the previous regime. By all indications, Scott Pioli will do much better than this.

Thank God King Carl is no more....
No more giving up draft picks for coaches
No more taking project players in RD 2 (Siavi)
No more trying to turn college safties into NFL cornerbacks
No more cringing when the Chiefs are on the clock
It only gets better from here on out. Thank God!

Pioli needs to take a chance on Eisen.
Did you guys see Rich Eisen run the 40? ;)

It is THE combine highlight every year!
I assume you saw him against Rajii. That was awesomeness.

Absolutely. It was hysterical.

Key word
Versatility.
I remember when he was signed by the Eagles after he left the Chiefs and all the AP reports (Associated Press, not our AP) talked about his versatility.

Versatility
The inability to do excel in any field. (e.g. “Harvey Williams was a versatile running back”)
Predictions for 2009
1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.

Beisel Was A Nice Pickup
Too bad he had his success playing for another team.
And how does Frank Moreau rate a C-? That guy flat out sucked. 2.7 yards per carry for his career? Hell, I’m betting there are people on this site who could get 2.7 yards per carry playing behind the Chiefs’ line in 2000. F…D- at best (because he got a little playing time).

Beisel
I really hope you’re talking about the Cardinals when you say he had success playing for another team.

Yeah
He was only with the Pats for one year. And he didn’t get close to a Super Bowl with the Chiefs. And we definitely could have used him in last season’s linebacking corps.
