Around SBN: Jeremy Lin And How The Pac-12 Missed Him

Should the Chiefs try Dorsey at DE?

"In terms of sheer movement skills, Dorsey could conceivably play DE in any style of front. He might be a bit slow for the position, but the man does move like he’s 30 lbs lighter. Watching Dorsey against LSU, I had chills thinking about him playing next too John Henderson and Marcus Stroud on the Jaguars D-line. A pipe dream sure, but that would be the best run-stopping unit in the league immediately. I’ve heard his name get mentioned as a possible 3-4 nose tackle if he goes to Miami, which is a mistake. That is not Dorsey’s game and I don’t think he would be effective in that role. He is far better on the move and getting penetration. His game is disruption, not occupation. He can be a 3-4 end though. He has the ability and drive to be a Richard Seymour type, but his most effective position is at tackle in a cover-2 (4-3) or attacking defense such as the Eagles.

The Dolphins need an impact lineman badly and Dorsey would make a good building block, but even with The Tuna taking power in Florida, that franchise doesn’t seem sure of what they want to do. Miami has run both the 3-4 and 4-3 fronts, often switching back and forth from play to play and Bill Parcells is a noted 3-4 technician. They just fired Dom Capers, the defensive coordinator and one of the best ever at running a 3-4 defense. That just strikes me as very odd though I’m sure Parcells knows something I don’t. Regardless, Miami would be greatly served by taking Glenn Dorsey number 1 overall. "

" “I saw him last year when he was at his best against Notre Dame and when he was healthy,” said Indianapolis president Bill Polian, "and he’s a force.

“He can do it all. He can stop the run. He can rush the pass. He can beat you one-on-one. I’m not sure there are many people who can win a battle with him one-on-one in pass protection. To have a force like that inside is good and positive.”

People wonder if he can play in a 3-4 defense, but Dorsey tells them not to worry. He can play nose tackle, he said. He can play the three technique. Heck, he can play outside if you want.

“Anything the coach wants me to do I’ll do it,” he said. "

And then would the Chiefs be well served to draft BJ Raji - your thoughts.

Possibly

Then if Hali plays DE, our line starting Dline will all be 1st rounders.

and Darren Sproles doesnt have size to play RB

seriously these guys are pro’s if they work hard enough at it (especially in Dorseys case) it’s definitely possible. They wouldn’t be containing his size rather the destruction he creates when he is tossing linemen like pebbles

Time is a great teacher... unfortunately it kills all it's pupils.

Hali is topping the scales at 250, we need more bulk at DE if we go to the 34.

I’m all for Dorsey moving to DE, I’ve been saying that for months now.

Here's a recent Scout.com blog post

Reasons why BJ Raji will be our first pick:
1) Dorsey can play DE effectively in our 3-4 packages and DT (which is his strength) in our 4-3 packages.

2) The Patriots/Pioli draft history:
a. Frequently used their first draft pick on D-line:
                            NT Wilfork 1-21 in 2004 Height: 6-2 Weight: 325
                            LDE Warren 1-13 in 2003 Height: 6-5 Weight: 300
                            RDE Seymour 1-6 in 2001 Height: 6-6 Weight: 310
b. Never drafted a QB above the 4th round in era of dominance
c. The Patriots O-line was built almost entirely after 1st round.
     Patriots O-Line Starters:
G Makins 1-32 in 2005 highest oline pick during era of dominance.
       T Kaczur 3-100 in 2005 – Don’t need 1st rounder!
       C Koppen 5-164 in 2003 – Late round again!
       T Light 2-48 in 2001 – Don’t need 1st rounder!
G Neal FA in 2001 – That rocks!

3) In the pass happy nfl, being able to collapse the pocket quickly with our front 3 or front 4 is critical.

4) He has the classic size for a NT at 6-1 and 325lbs, with above average speed to be a an excelent 4-3 DT (Think another Wilfork with better speed).

5) I think Haynesworth will re-sign with his team.

6) We have the cap room to get someone like Canty on the outside and Dansby/Scott to refurbish our LB corps for our 3-4 packages.

7) He is already a top 5 pick in some mock drafts.

8) I am guessing that we will go to a 3-4 base/hybrid, which makes Raji a better prospect than Jerry.

9) Raji had a bad rap for academic issues, which put him lower on early mock drafts. He never struggled with his courses. His college advisor miscounted his credits, which made him ineligible. It wasn’t his fault and is a reason regular season mocks had him lower. Read the article for more info:
       http://www.boston.com/sports/c…_determination/

Why will Chiefs fans scream out in horror against this idea:
1) Ryan Sims will forever leave a bad taste in our mouth
2) Crazy, unjustified and just plain unrealistic expectations for Dorsey and the production he had in his first season.
3) DT is not a sexy "name" pick.

It is very possible

Orpheus Roye for the Steelers is listed at 330lbs and he is a DE in the 3-4. If they decide that the 4-3 is the best way to go, then he is a DT.

two doors wide and 3 geet deep!

We need a future defensive leader, his name is James Laurinaitis and he can be selected in round 1 of the upcoming Draft.
