Crabtree at Combine? UPDATE: He's Toast

Michael Crabtree is not running or working out at the combine, so teams' opinions of him can only really be affected by two things: his personal presentation in interviews and in dealing with the press, and his measurements.

Crabtree's measurements we're 6'1 3/8, 215.

Star-divide

That doesn't seem impressive.  And if Maclin tears it up running the drills, the fact that Crabtree only has one inch and about fifteen pounds on him will probably become pretty significant.

Certainly, "measurables" aren't everything.  But using your size to succeed as a possession receiver would seem to be tied to having size.

I saw his press conference-type "drill" on the NFL Network, and he certainly didn't do great, but I don't know if he hurt himself either.  If you were to read the transcript, he would come off as confident and at least reasonably intelligent, but watching it he just didn't come off like he had a real leadership personality.

But I bet a lot of people had a much different opinion.  A week ago, I was thinking that the Chiefs should draft Crabtree.  Now, I'm less inclined toward that.  Has anyone else had their opinion of Crabtree changed?

I never thought we should draft him.

He has a world of talent but, we don’t need him. I feel that if he doesn’t run a good 40 time at his pro day work out at TTU, He won’t be the first receiver taken. If Maclin has an awesome combine he will be the top receiver taken. I have seen a recent mock with Crabtree taken 12. That is aweful low, but probably about right.

Well, he's toast now

Schefter is reporting right now that Crabtree has a stress fracture in his foot and needs surgery. Out 10 weeks, no pro day.

They sure as hell better not draft him now.
