Realistic Free Agents

Star-divide

Antonio Smith (DE, Cardinals) - 5 technique defensive end that will help the transition to a 3-4.

Channing Crowder (ILB, Dolphins) - Another guy who will fit the 3-4. Just came off a great season (113 tackles). Expensive, but won't break the bank.

Jason Brown (C, Baltimore) - The Ravens simply can't keep all of their talent. Brown is one of the best centers in the league and he is young to boot.

Ray Willis (RT, Seahawks) - Back-up tackle for the Seahawks that started 10 games and only allowed 1.5 sacks.

Eric Wright (DE/NT, New England) - Will provide good depth on the d-line. Versatile.

Marques Harris (OLB, Chargers) - Had 2.5 sacks with limited playing time. Will be a solid back-up.

Monty Beisal (ILB, Cardinals) - Remember him? Played for Pioli in New England and Pendergast in Arizona. Good back-up and special teams player.

JJ Arington (RB, Cardinals) - Cheap, we can use him for trick plays and is a decent kick-off returner.

Tony Curtis (TE, Cowboys) - Cheap, can act as a good H-back. Merritt can't block well when he is high.

Byron Leftwich/JP Losman/Brock Berlin (QB) - We need to bring in a vetern as well as draft a young guy. These three guys seem to be the only options in my opinion. Garcia is too old, don't want to trade 1st for Cassel, Warner and Collins are going to be resigned.

This won't use up our cap especially after we cut Surtain, Huard, D Edwards and trade LJ for a conditional 3rd round pick. We need to trade Dorsey because he just doesn't fit in a 3-4. McIntosh and him to the Jags for the #8 overall in order to draft BJ Raji (NT, Boston College). Trade down from #3 w/ Eagles for their first rounders and a 4th. I want to target guys like Larry English (OLB) or Clint Sintim (OLB), Duke Robbinson (RG) or Alex Mack (C) for our two late first rounders. Shonn Greene (RB, Iowa) at the top of the 2nd. Derrick Williams (WR) and Nathan Brown (QB) in the third. Seth McRath (OLB) and Kenan Lewis (CB) in the 4th. Grahm Gano (K) in the 5th. Jasper Brinley (ILB) and Wopamo Osaisai (CB) in the 6th. And Darcel McBath (FS) in the 7th. All of this is realistic, the only hard part will be the trades.

TO THE MORAN WHO SAID MONTY BIESEL SHOULD BE SACKING GROCERIES!

With the exception of Jason Brown, this has been the most realistic FA list I’ve seen posted here. I’d like it if we signed Crowder and/or Leftwich/Losman.

Trading Dorsey? Notsomuch… (Borat style)

by KansasCityShuffle on Feb 19, 2009 5:43 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

NO!

I agree there is no way we should get rid of Dorsey. All these people already say he is a bust and can’t adapt. I think we should keep Dorsey for sure!

Kansas City Football makes me crazy!!!!!!!!

by KC4Life on Feb 19, 2009 6:02 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I'm not saying he...

is a bust. He just doesn’t fit in a 3-4. If you ask me building a 3-4 is a lot easier to do this year than a 4-3. If we want a 4-3 we have to find that incredible pass rusher (you know like the one we traded) or we are screwed for next year.

by chiefsfan1384 on Feb 19, 2009 7:50 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I'm not neccessarily convinced

I think a front 4 of Tamba, Tank, Glenn, and Jason would play remarkedly better with a full season (Babin came in mid-season) and an overhauled LB corps. Draft at least 2 and convert Crowder or sign some other DeMorrio Williams equivalent to fill holes. At least thats my view

by KansasCityShuffle on Feb 19, 2009 8:30 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Crowder...

wouldn’t be an effective mike in a 4-3. If we were going that route we should sign Vilma.

by chiefsfan1384 on Feb 19, 2009 9:39 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Agree

Go after Crowder agressively and no trading Dorsey. Why do we have to switch to a 3-4 anyways?? if we already used a #5 pick on Dorsey to build a 4-3 Def.

by kcchiefs56 on Feb 19, 2009 5:47 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

dorsey

haley said today, after watching film, dorsey is athletic enough and strong enough to play both systems

by rich04 on Feb 19, 2009 6:04 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Yahtzee

I hope he’s right

by JZChiefsfan on Feb 19, 2009 6:08 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah seriously

Why does everyone seem to have the biggest hard-on for the 3-4?

by scharny on Feb 19, 2009 6:26 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I wish someone could answer that question

We would be throwing away our future very good DT in dorsey, pretty much wasting the draft pick on Hali. All we would have is DJ for the 3-4 defense.

by kcchiefs56 on Feb 19, 2009 6:54 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Hali...

can be a stand up end. He probably can play it better than a down lineman.

by chiefsfan1384 on Feb 19, 2009 7:38 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I disagree

his skillset he’s demonstrated on the field shows he’s better coming off the line. He doesnt have enough speed let alone skills to play coverage and his tackling is too poor for a LB as well

by KansasCityShuffle on Feb 19, 2009 8:32 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Jesus...

if hali is has such bad skills than why in the hell would you want him in our 4-3? Hali is fast enough, plus he is only 250 lbs, its a good fit. How do you know how good his coverage skills are?

by chiefsfan1384 on Feb 19, 2009 9:41 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Hali is listed at 275 lbs

Do you think he could cover a TE or WR? He is best as down pass rusher in 4-3

by JZChiefsfan on Feb 19, 2009 9:51 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I agree

I think a 4-3 is better suited for our team, but I guess lasts years results may speak otherwise?

by KansasCityShuffle on Feb 19, 2009 8:33 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

+1 trillion

Dude I agree with you tremendously. I really wanna know why it seems everyone has a HUGE hard-on for the 3-4 defense. Why should we run it instead of the 4-3? Someone please give me legit reasons why and I’ll stop asking the question. I’m not trying to be an a-hole I’m seriously wondering

by scharny on Feb 19, 2009 11:01 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Something about the number one defense in the league...

the last three seasons has ran the 3-4. This is a copy cat league.

AFC West Champs in 2009? Mayyybee.

sign Crowder and Brown and were set

by SayHeyWerd on Feb 19, 2009 5:53 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

2nd rd center or something else

Willis looks interesting 4th yr pro RT or RG.
Seattle Franchised a LB.
This guy might be less expensive than Brown.
Did he replace somebody Womack? due to injury or play.
Mack/Unger 2nd rd pick

by Steve_Chiefs on Feb 19, 2009 5:57 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Good work

We need a future defensive leader, his name is James Laurinaitis and he can be selected in round 1 of the upcoming Draft.

"But what do I know, I’m like an empty room with a large ECHO"

Antonio Smith

Looks like a slightly larger, slightly less productive Tamba Hali
AS 5th yr 125 98 27 14.5 0 0 0 0 — 0 0 0 0 98 solo tackles
TH 3rd yr 170 130 40 18.5 0 5 1 9 - 0 0 0 0 130 solo tackles

by Steve_Chiefs on Feb 19, 2009 6:07 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

As a 5th round pick

some could argue he’s just as productive as Hali

by KansasCityShuffle on Feb 19, 2009 6:12 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I thought that Hali didn't have a spot in our new 3-4

Does 1 inch and 10 pounds make that much difference?
Also if Hali can’t tackle this guy could be worse.

by Steve_Chiefs on Feb 19, 2009 6:16 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Antonio Smith

He came on at the end of the year though, he had like 5.5 sacks down the stretch including the playoffs

by JZChiefsfan on Feb 19, 2009 6:14 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Does anybody feel

That he LB from Kansas who I thought I read was always around ball and
Striker Sulak at MU have places on the Chiefs next year?

by Steve_Chiefs on Feb 19, 2009 6:20 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

UDFA

I think all of the KU LBs could have a chance on the Chiefs, if as nothing else than Special Teamers, they are solid tacklers and smart. But we would pick them up after the draft if anything… Sulak is going to be at the Combine so that could help him, although I think the KU LBs are better players

by GracieKal on Feb 20, 2009 1:43 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Nice work on FA

Except throw out all of those QB’s, bleh. (Leftwich slow release and just slow period wouldn’t survive behind our line, Losman sucks and is a bust, Berlin = What?)
We won’t trade Dorsey, or the #3 pick to Eagles.
Raji is going #4 to Seahawks.
If we did pickup Jason Brown it would free up our early draft picks(Rd 1-3) to take all defense.
If we do make a trade with the Eagles I’m sure T Gonz will be included.
You forgot Chris Canty on the FA list.

by JZChiefsfan on Feb 19, 2009 6:23 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

defense

I say we pick up crowder and stick with hali and dorsey, just to seeif hali regains his form??? then have dj crowder and curry as our linebackers. Then dorsey, hali, a FA? and then I dk who. Draft lineman second round probably unger or best available OL. I would love to see Brandon Albert and Monroe back together on the line. build some good chemistry. trade LJ and cut surtain, damon, and donnie.

by kcchiefs56 on Feb 19, 2009 6:34 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I am guessing Demorrio Williams

Will be the fourth? We have to play 4 backers in the 3-4.

AFC West Champs in 2009? Mayyybee.

I still think

Brian Johnston has potentail to be really good providing he can stay healhty. For a rookie in the limited time and games he played in he showed some flashes

by KansasCityShuffle on Feb 19, 2009 8:34 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

why

why do we need to run a 3-4?? We have our #5 overall pick in dorsey who had the exact same number plus 15 tackles as Haynesworth in his rookie year. Just run DJ curry and crowder at LB and pick up another DT or DE.

by kcchiefs56 on Feb 19, 2009 6:38 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

If I might reply to myself

I would prefer Hood out of TX and just send the whole Brigade of crazy Ass rebels on the field at same time.

by Steve_Chiefs on Feb 19, 2009 6:51 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

And while I'm mentally M-bating

I would hire Stonewall Jackson for OC and run the other team of Arrowhead turf before halftime
then suck a Lemon.

by Steve_Chiefs on Feb 19, 2009 6:53 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

??

Can someone tell me why everyone wants to run a 3-4 when we have 1 or 2 personnel that would even come close to fitting that defense. Probably only DJ.

by kcchiefs56 on Feb 19, 2009 6:44 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Thats...

the point of free agency and the draft. Trust me this defense looks a lot better than the 4-3 we have now. It allows us to find guys that can get to the quarterback. In a 4-3 you need that holy crap Jared Allen, Peppers, Uminora kind of guy. We don’t have that guy and I don’t see him in free agency or in the draft for that matter. (Maybe M Johnson, GT) but he has questions as well. There are a ton of 3-4 rush linebackers in this draft and a prototype nose tackle. If we are going to switch this is the year. Plus, I think Tamba and Turk will be better off in this system. They are tweeners and the 3-4 is the ultimate tweener defense.

by chiefsfan1384 on Feb 19, 2009 7:54 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Thank you

So you say we trade Dorsey, if so we are not going to get back what we paid for him in a # 5 overall pick. And from what everyone else is saying hes not good enough for NT?
On a serious note thank you for the explanation. I wasnt even sure why everyone was drooling over a 3-4.

by kcchiefs56 on Feb 19, 2009 10:22 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

or even a Kiwanuka

who we could’ve had instead of Hali. sorry had to play devils advocate.

When deep space exploration ramps up, it'll be the corporations that name everything, the IBM Stellar Sphere, the Microsoft Galaxy, Planet Starbucks.

I'd be fine with 9-7 or 10-6 and competiting for the divsion title

Look at the depth chart, because there seems to be confusion...

ROLB Clint Sintim (OLB, Virgina), Seth McRath (OLB, Miss)
RDE McBride, Boone
RILB D Johnson, Beisal
NT Raji (or keep Dorsey, but Raji is a more pure NT), Wright, Tyler
LILB Crowder, Brinkley
LDE A Smith, Wright
LOLB Hali, Harris, D Williams

O-line

LT Albert, Taylor
LG Waters, Niswanger (1 yr tender)
C J Brown, Niswanger
RG D Robbinson, W Smith
RT Willis, Richardson

Oline

Your’e O has two 2nd rd picks on it

We no longer

have a linebacker with the last name ‘Harris’

by KansasCityShuffle on Feb 19, 2009 8:36 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

did not read...

the trade down scenario. If we did that we would have two first, plus the dorsey trade gives us three first round picks.

by chiefsfan1384 on Feb 19, 2009 9:36 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

we wouldn’t get a 1st rounder for Dorsey

by scharny on Feb 20, 2009 1:51 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Raji would be a first rounder as well

FA sounds good

FA sounds good as any don’t think all those trades will happen…

by bevis369 on Feb 20, 2009 9:27 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

The Titans

run a 4-3 don’t they? And the strength of that 4-3 comes from the push up the middle, which makes their DE’s look a lot better than they actually are, Sims syndrome, but it works.
