Chiefs reportedly tab Clancy Pendergast at the next DC
Courtesty of Rotoworld. No link to the story as of yet:
"Chiefs hired former Cardinals defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast to hold the same position in Kansas City.</a>
Ex-Saints DC Gary Gibbs will coach the LBs. Pendergast loves to take risks, some of which create big plays while others result in big gains for opponents. He'll likely run a hybrid 3-4 scheme in KC, bringing 2008 first-round pick Glenn Dorsey's position into question. Dorsey is a pure 4-3 defensive tackle and was considered too small to for a 3-4 defense coming"

Thanks for the link
Rotoworld just updated their news feed to say that they’re not quite sure just yet who the DC will be.

YES!
I was more in the Pendergast camp. Despite popular belief Pendergast was pretty legit in Arizona his blitz packages were sensible but dangerous. Not to mention he’ll be able to transition KC into a 3-4 defense down the road. Now we have both the assistants that led Arizona to the super bowl last year!

Pendergast
Defenses ranked in the bottom half of the league in both points allowed and yardage the last two years.
Just saying…if that offense of Arizona’s was just the slightest bit worse, the Cards are lucky to get out of the first round. And last I checked the Chiefs don’t have Kurt Warner under center or a #2 receiver anywhere near Boldin’s caliber.
I have absolutely no idea who the Chiefs will draft or sign in free agency and anyone who thinks that they know is talking out of their fourth point of contact.
All I know is that the Chiefs are going to field a better team in 2009. Prediction of team record will be submitted after the 2009 draft.

TE < WR
And the Chiefs don’t have a #2 WR on par with Steve Breaston either.

Bowe had a 1,000 yard season don't forget
Bowe (as long as we don’t get crabtree) will be the chiefs most productive WR of all time…He puts up great numbers..He had a sophomore slump…If we get crabtree, this team all of a sudden is up there in the top three teams in the league as far as talent at receiver and TE…
I think it’s pretty likely we nab crabtree

Been posting here for more than a year
and still can’t fancy up my posts. I have an update on here saying that Rotoworld retracted the original statement of Pendergast as DC.

3-4 Hybrid?
He ran 4-3 in AZ didn’t he? And they started to become successful there….

yes
He ran a 4-3 under package. I posted a link a couple days ago. Here it is again.

Glenn Dorsey
Can anyone tell me why Glenn Dorsey is supposedly not able to be a DE in a 3-4? Is it his height? Because his weight doesn’t seem to be a problem. Is it his rushing technique? What is it?
I also thought that AZ ran more of a 4-3 hybrid rather than 3-4.
by JZChiefsfan on Feb 17, 2009 6:16 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
in the 3-4
you want a space eating nose tackle (ie Shaun Rogers in Cle or Kris Jenkins in NY). Dorsey is just too short and at 275 just doesn’t weigh enough to man up double teams every play.

I was asking about hime playing the DE position in a 3-4
I know he’s way to small to be a NT in a 3-4

sorry - i missed that part
I was sort of wondering the same thing – him and Turk would probably play well at opposite ends

Dorsey is not to short
he’s 6’1 297lbs, Casey Hampton the premier NT for Steelers is 6’1 325, but I do agree that Dorsey may struggle being a dominant force lining up against the center and being asked to stop two gaps.

Yeah...
but guys he doesn’t run a traditional 3-4 in Arizona. He runs a 4-3 under. Look at Darnell Dockett. Him and Dorsey are built similarly. I think he could flourish in this system and be an even more impact player than Dockett, he has way more potential.

agreed
yeah, its a 4-3 under not yet a 3-4, and were not sure if pendergast is the DC yet, even though its obvious.

Look for us...
to sign a player like Antonio Smith (DE, Cardinals) and Channing Crowder (ILB, Dolphins). I’m hoping Curry could project to play outside in a 3-4. If he can we should take him in a heartbeat.

now we need to find out who
gets the job – if it’s Pendergast then I’d agree with you

Curry
is projected to be able to play both OLB and MLB in both 3-4 and 4-3. Basically any LB position but definitely the OLB spot

BE BEEP BEEP BEEP ... This just in:
It has been announced by Arthur Bryants that a deal has been reached to provide 46 slabs of ribs each day to Tank Tyler, DT of the Kansas City Chiefs, to beef him up for the upcoming football season to switch to a NT position. Film at 9. Details of his Lunch menu to come from Pizza Hut.
We need a future defensive leader, his name is James Laurinaitis and he can be selected in round 1 of the upcoming Draft.
Ok already, if you don't agree with what I am saying, just don't email my mom again. She beat the crap out of me with my keyboard!

Gary Gibbs
He’s about the only guy who could make the choice of Pendergast as DC look like a good move. Pendergast’s defenses may have been bottom half of the NFL for the last three years, but Gibb’s defenses were absolute bottom feeders the last two. Even Drew Brees and that great offense they had couldn’t turn Gibbs’ defenses into winners.
I have absolutely no idea who the Chiefs will draft or sign in free agency and anyone who thinks that they know is talking out of their fourth point of contact.

Dont worry- bout- it
Pioli’ll take care of it. we’ve got some good athletes. This is what Hunt is paying the big bucks for. I’d bet the ranch we get Curry #3. Maybe some sleepers and a few free agents; but, let’s not forget about the OL too.

I had a gut feeling Pendegrasst would be on the staff
After he got canned from AZ, I had a feeling that Haley would look at him. While his defenses weren’t that good during the regular season, they made big time plays all through the playoffs (with the exception of that last drive the Steelers made to win the Super Bowl). I’m keeping an open mind about CP. But you gotta wonder why Krumrie wasn’t canned. I bet he was only retained because any other decent D-line coach that was out there was already hired.

is it Gibbs or is it Pendergrast?
I’m still confused. Do we have a definative answer?
