Stopping the run

I don't understand why it would be so hard to switch to a 3 4  defense, grab Aaron Curry with  #3 pick, shop the free agency market for another LB.  We've got Derrick Johnson.  Turk, Tank and Dorsey on the line.  Maybe Tamba  could squeeze in.  Our secondary's got good size and speed.

Let's stay young.  These guys are not old dogs, they can learn new tricks.  It would be nice if we had a DC who fit the system too.  Poor Gunther was just Herm's puppet.

It's going to be interesting to see what Pioli does.  I know we need help everywhere but maybe if we could stop the run we might win a few more games.

turk and tank? and squeeze tamba in? Tamba would fit 3-4 perfectly, cuz he can drop back and play lineback a little too.

It would be tough because

To be effective in a 3-4, you need a standout noseguard, i.e. someone who is about 6-1 and weighs about 345 to occupy two gaps on either side of the center. None of our current lineman fit the bill for that role. Also none of our current lineman would be very good ends in a 3-4 scheme. So, in essence, you will have totally wasted the #5 overall pick in last years draft on Glenn Dorsey by switching to the 3-4. You would also need to acquire 3 to 4 more GOOD linebackers to run it. It could be done, but like I’ve said too many times, switching to the 3-4 doesn’t all of a sudden make you a good defense.

3-4

Denver and Green Bay and everyone else wants those same type players
this year. We would have to pick Raji #1 and chase Linebackers the rest of draft.
Any players fitting profile are going to have multiple bidders and price is goingup!
We could’nt fill needs on Oline or anywhere else.

Dorsey

Give Dorsey another year. We would be crazy to draft Raji with the 3d overall pick. Dorsey had more tackles than Sapp his rookie year and Dorsey is playing in a scheme that doesn’t even fit him. Stick with the 4-3….Tyler and Dorsey will be good. Lets give them someone that can rush on the outside to help them.

Switching to a 3-4 right now would be a stupid idea and the main reason is what kcguy said,

“So, in essence, you will have totally wasted the #5 overall pick in last years draft on Glenn Dorsey by switching to the 3-4. You would also need to acquire 3 to 4 more GOOD linebackers to run it”

and everybody is trying to switch to 3-4, why not use the 4-3 which we’ve used for a while now (and i think we used it when our D was actually good) and go from there. I say try to get a DE (like Peppers) and MLB (Vilma or Dansby) in free agency and get the BPA that would fit our team in the draft. But I vote NO on a switch to 3-4 right now.

Nose Tackle

Kinda need a nose tackle to run a 3-4. Unless they draft Curry and then trade Dorsey for B.J. Raji for a high #1. I know the Saints wanted him last year, I’m sure some team would love to have Dorsey. But if not oh well, I think Dorsey can be great he just needs some talent around him!

YEAH keep the good posts coming

ptsh hahah seriously? Dorsey Tank and Turk would get annihilated in a 3-4. Hali would have to drop weight and move to OLB, don’t think it would work out though it’s going to take us at least one or two drafts after this years to compose a solid 3-4

blah 3-4

just posted on this. with everyone else switching over the the flavor of the month in the league(3-4) there should be plenty of FA players who CAN play the 4-3 out there for us to pick up. i know everyone says “pioli had a 3-4 in NE so thats what hes comfortable with”…..ummm hes the gm not the coach. yeah he has to get a certain type of player but its will be alot easier for him to target a different breed of player then it would be for a coach to teach a different brand of football. stick with the 4-3. just run it correctly

KC CHIEFS 3-4 D,2009!!

OK HERE’S MY TAKE ON 3-4 DEFENSE.START BUILDING THRU FA WITH PLAYERS THAT ALRDY PLAY THE 3-4 LIKE DE(IGOR OLSHANSKY & CHRIS CANTY) & LB(BART SCOTT & CHANNING CROWDER).SINCE ITS THE OFF-SEASON DORSEY/TYLER NEED TO ADD ABOUT 25LBS OF BULK à la (CASEY HAMPTON 6’1/325) TO PLAY NT. DJ(6’3/245) WOULD PLAY OLB & HALI WOULD BE DE/OLB à la (TERRELL SUGGS 6’3/270).CB/S WOULD REMAIN THE SAME. IN THE DRAFT DEFENSIVELY,JUST IN CASE WE DON’T GET THE FA’S,MY 1ST PICK WOULD BE ILB), I WOULD LOOK AT DE(TYSON JACKSON 6’5/298),DE/OLB& FS(RASHAD JOHNSON 5’11/200 4.4/40YD). I WOULD ALSO LOOK INTO ADDING A VETERAN 3-4 CB(ANDRE GOODMAN/BRYANT MCFADDEN)& A NT WITH SUM BULK, A VETERAN LIKE OR MAYBE IN THE DRAFT. AFTER RESEARCHING IT, THE CHIEFS CAN PULL THIS OFF AND HAVE A MUCH IMPROVED DEFENSE! ALSO, HERE’S MY TAKE ON THE STAFF, ROMEO CRENNEL,TED COTTRELL,CLANCY PENDERGRAST & KEVIN ROSS…..WE NEED A DEFENSE WITH A MONSTER ATTITUDE!!! PS. I’D BRING KURT SCHOTTENHIEMER BACK FOR SPECIAL TEAMS!!

the 3-4...

is nice for a gimmicky play or 2 here and there, but it will never make it as a complete defense in the NFL loooooooooooooooool
