Nevermore has the old adage "One mans trash is another mans treasure" been true. Though in this case, I guess it would be "One teams trash..." Regardless, Saints fans were incredibly happy to see Gibbs get fired after another disappointing season for the defense. For the better part of the 2008 campaign Gibbs was blamed for a vanilla defense, a lack of a pass rush and just poor scheme. We may never know whether Gibbs' scheme was actually to blame or whether the Saints really do just lack talent but I think a demotion to position coach may be a better fit and an easier time for Double G; hopefully it won't be as secondary coach. If the Chiefs do pick up Gary Gibbs, I wish your defense the best of luck. You may need it.

That sounds tremendous.
Oh well, in Pioli we trust.

would linebackers coach really be any better
we’re talking about a position on D that has under performed and is in serious need of an upgrade. Just don’t see the logic in this. Just seems like another incestuous job hiring in the nfl. Makes me sad to see that Haley/Piloli would prioritize the hiring of this joke over a serious hire. To me this is the type of hire you make at the end of putting together your staff when you have no better options and are just hooking up a friend.

Who is this guy?
Saint’s DC? What? Why not just bring Greg Robinson? First lackluster move out of Arrowhead in some time.

14 other Defensive Coordinators hired before him
Or something like that. Not much left to work with. Sounds like second coming of the second coming of Gunther Cunningham to me.

Pioli
Well if we would have jumped in to the race early we would not be in this position .we basically sat back for way to long and now we have the scraps of the league. We should have fired herm 5 min after the last heart breaking game and then we should have fired our entire staff kept who we felt could be a factor and start from there buuut noooo we waited forever to get rid of herm and then pioli took forever to sign . soo it doesnt suprise me that we are in this position.

I agree
This whole process is taking too long. I can understand wanting to get it right, but the longer we wait the fewer quality coaches are left. Dick Curl and Gubther have jobs, so what does that tell us about the unemployed?

I don't understand the reaction
Look, I don’t know anything about Gibbs, and if they are hiring him to be DC, then I think all the concerns raised here are legit. Hell, maybe he’s just a terrible coordinator. But, the article says he might be DC or might be linebackers coach.
If they are hiring him as linebackers coach, does it necessarily matter that he failed as a coordinator? A lot of people would like to see Romeo Crennel as DC, but he failed as a head coach. Isn’t it the same thing?
Does it matter if someone isn’t qualified for the next job up? Did Mike Solari’s failure as an OC retroactively take away from his previously stellar work as an offensive line coach?

In a way these reactions make me wonder how the
Detroit fans felt recently… :)
We need a future defensive leader, his name is James Laurinaitis and he can be selected in round 1 of the upcoming Draft.
Ok already, if you don't agree with what I am saying, just don't email my mom again. She beat the crap out of me with my keyboard!

Lots of coordinators
get blamed one place, and end up doing great at another. People seem to think that just because you’re a good coordinator or a good coach that means you can take any team and make them good. Sometimes things just aren’t a good fit, or you were handcuffed, or whatever. I know next to nothing about Gibbs, other than the fact that the Saints had a starting secondary made up of waiver wire pick ups. But even if he’s picked as DC, I’m going to at least give the guy a chance. He might just fit what Pioli is looking for.

honey money didnt last long
one second everyone is polishing the knobs of pioli/haley then you “hear” of a “possible” hire for one of 2 coaching positions and everyone is disgruntled again. what happened to trusting pioli??? there going too slow, this guy is a twit, shoulda kept gunther, hes a horrible dcordinator. i mean come on folks. take your bipolar medication, relax, wait, and at least wait until the first preseason game to start bitching about who ends up on board.
