So everyone says we are in a situation like no other here in Kansas City. This will prove you wrong. Our Chiefs are in a situation like the New England Patriots of 1999.
These facts will show the striking resemblence in many ways between the Chiefs 2008 season and the Patriots 1999 season. Including personnel changes as well.
If you don't already know, Pioli was hired as Director of Player Personnel for the Patriots after their 1999 season.
After Pioli was hired the Head Coach, Defensive Coordinator, and Offensive Coordinator all were fired. No joke!
60% of the 1999 Patriots losses came by less than 7 pts
50% of the 2008 Chiefs losses came by less than 7 pts
2008 Chiefs had two pro bowlers - Waters/TG
1999 Patriots had two pro bowlers - Lawyer Milloy/Terry Glenn
Both the 1999 Patriots and the 2008 Chiefs finished last in their division.
Chiefs got nothing out of draft for multiple years under Carl Peterson and
Patriots got nothing out of draft from Grier for multiple seasons as well...Both fired/resigned
Pete Carroll lasted 3 seasons, then fired Pioli's first year with Patriots (1999)
Herm lasted 3 seasons, then fired Pioli's first year (2008)
Check out this article:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/news/2000/01/03/patriots_carroll_ap/
1999 Patriots scored 299 points total - avg. 18.7 points per game
2008 Chiefs scored 291 points total - avg. 18.2 points per game
NE 1999 leading receiver had 1147 yds (Terry Glenn)
KC 2008 leading receiver had 1058 yds (TG)
NE 1999 leading rusher had 896 yds (Terry Allen)
KC 2008 leading rusher had 874 yds (LJ)
1999 NE - INT 14
2008 KC - INT 16
KC 2008 - 9 rshTDs - 23 recTDs
NE 1999 - 9 rshTDs - 19 recTDs
and my favorite similarity was this...
1999 NE Patriots avg age was 26.9
2008 KC Chiefs avg age was 25.9
and if you didn't know...
Tom Brady was drafted Pioli's first year, and Pioli will find our QB as well. Just who will it be?
So what is your favorite similarity?
