My dad and I, our last game together
Hello all
I recently shared a very memorable experience with my dad. I snuck up to visit him at a nursing home North of Omaha to watch the Chiefs/Steelers game. He had just been released from the hospital and had no idea
I was coming. I had sold my tickets to this game as I was going to watch Nebraska vs KState and to see him. It was one of the best decisions I have made.
We watched the game in his room and he was as sharp mentally as he had been in quite some time. We enjoyed the game immensely and it was the first game we had watched together since 2005.
The day after I left my dad took a dramatic turn for the worse and we laid him to rest yesterday. I will always cherish the fact we spent a great afternoon together watching the Chiefs and him sitting on the edge of his seat as OT started.
My dad and I immensely enjoyed watching the Chiefs together on TV or via the phone during the 90s after seeing them be so poor in the late 70's and all through the 80's. We both felt our loyalty had finally paid off.
I sincerely hope the Chiefs make the moves to become a relevant franchise again so many other father/sons will enjoy watching them together.
I am hoping one of you may be able to assist me. I have contacted the Chiefs to ask them if I could get a copy of the Steelers/Chiefs game over a week ago and have not heard from them. Do any of you have a contact that may be able to assist me?
Sincerely,
Ray

Ray...
I am very sorry to hear about your loss. I had a terrible loss earlier this year when my 22 year old stepson died. Those wounds never completely heal but, I can assure you that he is in a much better place now and will no longer feel the pain of sickness. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Remember the good times and do your best not to dwell on the fact that he is gone. These things are much harder for those of us who are left behind.
Bittersweet story man...
God bless you and your family.
Here’s what a friend told me after I lost my mother and father:
“It will always hurt the same. It just eventually hurts less often.”
Stay strong bro and keep your chin up!
P.S. www.kcchiefsgames.com has your game. Just create a username and password and you’ll be good to go.
Prediction: Tamba gets 10 sacks this year.
Im sorry for the loss also.
A family that sticks together cries together. Although I didn’t literally cry, I certainly felt like doing so. Glad I found this site.
When you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail.
It's funny how things work out
I’m glad you had the chance to spend a good one with him.

FOUR F'S FIND UM FEEL UM FUGUM FORGET UM.
The family bond keep us going as well...
My family has had Chiefs season tickets since the pre-Arrowhead days. 1967 I believe. First my grandfather, then my father, and now me. 3 generations…hence the name 3GChief.
I lost my grandfather earlier this year, and I can say that while we were never really that close, we shared a lot of similar passions. The Chiefs were one of those passions and I don’t think that is a coincidence.
Now, my wife and I have are own seats, and my dad continues to go even as the losing takes its toll, but he goes because of the time that we get together as a family before and after the games. That is enough to keep me going as well.
Regardless of the record we’ll be out there and I hope this is one family tradition that I can pass on one day as well.
Bless you and your family during this time and moving forward.

My dad died about 2 1/2 years ago. The last game he saw that we won was the final week in 2006 season. When we luckly sneaked into the playoffs. Four teams had to win for us to get in. And we didnt get in until that sunday night game(denver game) after ours.(Remember, herm said,“we didnt back in to this deal”). After that field goal was good, I looked at my dad and yelled “were in the playoffs!”. Then I looked at my wife(colts fan) and said"yeah, larrys gonna run all over that soft colts run defense". Still think we shouldve got PA pass on that first play. Anyway, like your dads last chiefs victory, my dad’s last chief victory was awesome too.

You're bringing up some great memories
That is one of my favorite days of all time. Loved watching Nedney drill it!
that nedney FG
changed my life…until about a week later when larry johnson stunk it up for us.
Give Todd Haley a full regular and off-season to build Bowe's Cassel, and we will all wreap the benefits...
hey ray
i’m really sorry to hear about your dad. i laid mine to rest two years ago, and we also had a pretty special father/son chiefs bond. i’m glad you got to experience that with him.
as far as getting a copy of the game goes, have you ever heard of KCChiefsGames.com? it’s free to sign up, and they have a “game room” that includes all of the games so far this season, as well as about 50-70 ‘milestone games’ (superbowl 4, seahawks 1990 when DT had 7 sacks, etc) that you can just watch in your browser like a youtube video. if you’re really sneaky there’s ways to save these movies to your hard drive. not sure if this is what you’re looking for. but you might be able to find a few more of those games you watched with him and build yourself a little library.
anyways, i hope you’re doing well
if rhymes were valiums, i'd be comfortably numb
Sorry to hear about your Dad Ray
That’s tough to read. I’m really glad you got to spend some great time with him before he passed.

May your dad rest in peace,
hey what a great way to remember your last memories together though, keep your head up, and remember the good times. I am sure he is in a better place, and smiling down on you.
Good move by the Chiefs org, glad to see LJ gone.
My condolences to you family for your loss
I am glad to see you taking heart in this wonderful final experience with your dad. Stay strong and thank you for taking the time to share this with us. Things get tense around here sometimes and it’s stories like these that really put things in perspective.
As far as a copy of the game, I know that in the past DVDs of games have been made available via that the media outlet. You may want to try reaching out to KCTV here in KC. I’ll make some calls tomorrow to see if anyone at the Chiefs can help. I see you have an email addy in your profile, so I’ll reach out to you there with whatever info I have if that’s ok.
This is my signature line. It is full of awesome and win.

Great yet sad story
I’m truly sorry to hear about your father passing. I’m 21 and my father and I share an extreme bond with sports, especially the Chiefs. I was thrilled they won against Pittsburgh and now I’m much happier. God Bless you and yours.
