Chiefs LB Vrabel Named to All-Fundamentals Team

Kansas City Chiefs LB Mike Vrabel has been chosen as a member of the All-Fundamentals Team by USA Football and the NFLPA.

A six person panel chose Vrabel because of his ability to shed blocks.

USA Football is the governing body of youth football and is chaired by former Chiefs GM Carl Peterson who, along with Herm Edwards and four others, chose the All-Fundamentals team.  This 26-man roster honors the NFL's most fundamentally-sound players who also commit themselves to service in their communities.

One other player with a Chiefs connection - Tony Gonzalez.  He was given the honor for his ability to catch the ball in traffic.

Each player will choose a school to give a $1,500 equipment grant.

Full list of all the players chosen can be seen after the jump.

Vraebel is a leader, love his passion.

Good move by the Chiefs org, glad to see LJ gone.

A couple things...

1. This is exactly why Vrabel was brought in, not because of his production, but because of his knowledge

2. How would we know about Asomugha, because QB’s never throw his way.

3. BRIAN MOORMAN IS TEH AWESOME !!!

Not that he isn't a great Corner...

He’s starting to live a little on reputation… But hell Neion Deion did it for the last 5 years of his career… Well until those last 2 years in Baltimore.

If no one throws to him, that means the receiver he is covering doesn’t get any catches. I’d say that is THE definition of a shutdown corner.

by T-Rich on Dec 8, 2009 10:59 PM CST up reply actions

To some degree yes...

But i dont think a QB even looks his way as much, and Deion was really good at baiting QB’s into throwing his way. So to some degree they are just scared to throw that way if the corner is beat or not.

Still means that the receiver isn’t getting any catches.

I did say "NOT that he isn't a great corner"

But if his receivers aren’t blanketed and a QB COULD throw that way BUT doesn’t it’s because of his reputation. QB’s are scared that they are being bated into throwing their way, but since they dont we dont actually know.

I don’t get why there is even an argument, I never said he wasn’t a shutdown corner.

What are your arguing? He was nominated for this award, and you questioned whether he was a good cornerback. That’s what I’m arguing.

by T-Rich on Dec 9, 2009 3:06 PM CST up reply actions

Im just saying...

That yes he is great, yet still overrated, Its rare, but possible.
