Is that just for this year?

Winning begins with Attitude - Haley and Pioli will be winners in KC!

I'll forever be a Chiefs fan! Only God himself could take that away from me, but when I get to my great reward, I'll rejoin two bigger fans, my Mom and Dad.

The meaning of burned in this article...

means that he has the highest percentage of passes completed against him among the safeties. Basically, he doesn’t play good coverage at all. I don’t think it takes into account missed tackles, just completed passes. So assuming he doesn’t tackle them after they make the catch against him, just makes Pollard even worse.

by ChiefMizzou09 on Dec 8, 2009 12:30 PM CST reply actions

i'm with you.

i think we should re-post this on the main page daily :) i really dont want to deal with the Pollard > Brown comments any more…

and for the record… i’ve seen jon mcgraw lay some wood this year at FS. he’s been hitting guys with conviction.

if rhymes were valiums, i'd be comfortably numb

But, but, but....

head explodes

Our defense gave up 87 points in two weeks and everyone wants to talk about Matt Cassel. Classic. Only TEAMS, as a COLLECTIVE GROUP, decide our W/L record. I can't believe this needs to be said.

Burned

So the receiver makes the catch 72% of the time when they go against Pollard? That is terrible.

So..

When exactly do we play the Texans? Oh yea, next year! Hope he’s still around.

Yeah I hear you man,

But it’s f@#king embarrassing. We have possibly the worst team the chiefs have ever had, and some are worried about players who are not even apart of the team.

by palomarchief on Dec 8, 2009 12:47 PM CST up reply actions

na, not the worst

We’ll win 4-5 games…probably. Record-wise we’ll be better than the previous two seasons…and there’s a actual PLAN for improving the team in place. The blowouts have been tough, but I still feel better about the direction of the team than I have in at least 3 years.

Predictions:

Kansas City will not win more than four games in 2009
Kansas City will have a new OC and DC in 2010
Kansas City will win at least seven games in 2010

I feel your pain bro

But we will soon be the ones smiling. Besides, in a few years, we won’t be seeing any Chargers stickers or flags. But when they see my Chiefs license plate frame, they always look to see what a true fan, the kind that proudly displays his teams logo during even the bad years, looks like.

That's nothing new! Don't you remember watching him get burned last year?

He gets beat deep all the time. He is a punishing tackler, though.

by Randy5225 on Dec 8, 2009 12:44 PM CST reply actions

yeah

but a lot of posters here apparently don’t! Pioli’s been trashed a lot for dumping Pollard.

Why doesn't anyone try to move Pollard to a LB pos?

He hits hard and maybe he would have a better shot at covering TE’s opposed to WR’s. I know I will get some shit for saying this but I moved him on Madden and excelled.

by GanjaChief on Dec 8, 2009 1:27 PM CST up reply actions

You know, I did the same thing

And he wasn’t that good. He’s now benched behind a 2nd year player (who, funnily, is a converted linebacker). Strange.

I do know my 3 Penn State linebackers are tearing ass though!! :) And the combo of Jamaal Charles and Evan Royster is UNSTOPPABLE.

Penn State to Kansas City...Always a winning combination.

Brown just missed the tackles later.

by NJ Chiefs Fan on Dec 8, 2009 12:51 PM CST up reply actions

According to the stats presented on this website,

Pollard is worst, then Reggie Nelson, Chris Hope, Dashon Goldson, and then Michael Griffin. Brown is not even top 5. Most of the time Chiefs get burnt it is really not over the top. It is usually between the safeties and linebackers (hard to determine whose fault) or as NJ Chiefs Fan says, basically other people getting burnt and then long tackles.

regardless...

Texans fans still seem to be very pleased with the acquisition. I liken his signing with Houstan to us getting Wade: He shows flashes of being a very promising FA sign, but then has just an absolute farce of a game and when the season is over you have a bad taste in your mouth.

yeah I must say that the pollard love makes me laugh a bit

It goes both ways for me. I was a BIG pollard supporter…Then I got NFL sunday Ticket last season and watched every game…that definitely changed my opinion rather quickly…Yeah he puts up some stats…but he also gets killed all over the field…people wonder how we can still be this bad…its picks like Pollard, picks like DJ…my c harger friend was so confused that DJ wasnt starting…and I said…listen, DJ makes a big play but is constantly missing tackles and getting beat in coverage…he watches the game, and points out 4-5 different times where DJ just flat out blew coverage or lacked effort and missed a tackle…lets just say it became clear to him as it has to me…that over that long period of drafting with vermeil and edwards, there were VERY few guys that would start on a really good team for a long period of time…there werent even many solid bench guys…

hes the best example of why they blew this up and dealt tank and thigpen(who I couldnt believe was a franchise QB, whereas ive seen less fireworks from Cassel but much more promise…)

I get that brown stinks etc other than with tip picks…but…there is a lot to be said about the fact that if we are planning to turn this around, attitudes MUST go…Pollard had one…he had to go, his play was not to the talent level where we HAD to keep him because he made so many mistakes…

To be fair ...

I’d like to know where he pulled his stats from so that we could compare what we had (Pollard) with what we’ve got now.

he provided the link... but there are no Chiefs referenced

* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season
* Stats are for losers

by stagdsp on Dec 8, 2009 2:32 PM CST up reply actions

Can you point me to where that is, exactly, then?

Because I’m not seeing any reference at all from the WPI page to show where he’s mining his data from.

by JacinB on Dec 8, 2009 3:06 PM CST up reply actions

Other than ...

… from Stats, LLC. which doesn’t appear to be accessible for the average, everyday fan.

by JacinB on Dec 8, 2009 3:07 PM CST up reply actions

And see if those stats are for the year or only his time with the Texans.

If it is for the year then his weeks in KC contributed to the percentage. And if that is the case, what is the “burn” rate of his time in KC vs his time in Houston.
If his burn percentage has dropped in Houston vs KC then I guess WE have a problem. If it is the other way around then Houston has THE problem.

Who was it that said they love statistics because even a failing business can be made to look good.

Meh.

According to this, Pollard has more Passes Defended and more INT return yards than Mike Brown (heck, for that matter, so does Andy Studebaker).

Pollard also has more Tackles, as many Solo tackles, more Assists, and more Forced Fumbles.

by JacinB on Dec 8, 2009 3:22 PM CST reply actions

more INT return yards?

kind of an arbitrary stat, i think

For the record, I don’t think Brown is “better” than Pollard… I think Pollard was let go because of his attitude, primarily.

Brown’s position needs an upgrade this offseason, but it would still need an upgrade if Pollard were here, so it’s a wash.

by stagdsp on Dec 8, 2009 3:51 PM CST up reply actions

Arbitrary stats.

I know. But, Mike Brown has more INTs (3, to Pollard’s 2) so I felt the need to point out that Pollard has been significantly more productive after hauling in his INTs than Brown has.

by JacinB on Dec 8, 2009 3:56 PM CST up reply actions

End Zone

One of Brown’s INTs was in the end zone and he took a knee because there was no place open to return the ball. That was a heads up play and one most players would have screwed up on. Returns are situational so I don’t really see how that is being more productive.

Pollard

I think he could be most effective on obvious running downs. He’s a big hitter and plays the run well, but looks like he’s getting burned, probably a lot on 3rd down. Smarter use of a player who obviously has some talent could really go a long way.

I'm officially on the 'Draft Eric Berry' train.

Hits hard but misses tackles

Pollard’s biggest problem has always been he goes for the kill and if he gets it it is exciting. But, so often he misses a chance at an INT or just doesn’t make the tackle because of trying to make the big hit.
