Dear Roger Goodell,

I hope this letter finds you and yours doing well this Christmas Holiday Season. The reason I am writing to you is to simply give you a few words about what happened after a certain play in Kansas City on Sunday. On a fourth and one, nursing a big lead in the fourth quarter, the Broncos opted to go for it.  And go for it they did all the way to the end zone via an 18 yard run by Knowshon Moreno. Well as you already know, Mike Vrabel had something to say about this to the Broncos bench. Now he didn’t approach their bench in an enticing or threatening manner, he just simply held up a hand signal telling them they were “number 1” on that field that day.

People I am sure on your staff are going to try and tell you it was an off color remark about what the Broncos had just done and will try to get you to place a heavy fine on Mr. Vrabel. I don’t think you should rush to judgment just yet, if you’ll let me explain.

You and I are big boys and I’m sure you wear your big boy underwear the same or similar to the way I wear mine. We both know that emotions can get the best of you in an emotional game. This was in fact an emotional game for the Chiefs. Derrick Thomas was finally laid to rest with his enshrinement and number retirement into the Hall of Fame and Kansas City Ring of Honor at Arrowhead Stadium. Every person in attendance was moved by the scene and recollections of what DT stood for in the hearts of the Chiefs and their fans. DT also stood for what every pro football player in the NFL today should strive to become and that is the best player that his God given talents will allow him to be. Never taking a play off and always ready to give it your all with a positive attitude and outlook on each game.

I ask you Mr. Goodell, what would the NFL be without players willing to show their emotions? What would any sport be where the participants couldn’t show their emotions? An outright emotional outburst can change the outcome of any sporting event if done properly. I believe Mr. Vrabel’s actions will spark an emotional outbreak within the Chiefs players that will result in a more successful team this weekend.

But ultimately it is up to you Roger, to make things right. But to make things right in the fans eyes, you should consider letting Mike Vrabel off with a warning this time. Do the right thing Roger and let us move on from this incident that was simply a show of emotion from an emotional game.

He deserves a fine. Period. Flipping the bird on a TV network broadcast is not a good thing.

Leave that crap for the NBA. NFL players should conduct themselves to a higher standard.

Our defense gave up 87 points in two weeks and everyone wants to talk about Matt Cassel. Classic. Only TEAMS, as a COLLECTIVE GROUP, decide our W/L record. I can't believe this needs to be said.

Indeed

This is football for heaven’s sake. People get emotional, players get hit, and some WR’s vs DB’s needs to be a fight for the ball – I mean all those Pass Interference calls on Monday Night? Seriously?!

It was his tribute to DT!

Remember the Monday night game when the Donkeys kicked the shit out of us and DT got so frustrated he was talking shit and getting a bunch of penalties? This was Vrabels way of honoring DT on a bad day.

I think it’s funny and Vrabel just moved up about 3 notches in my book.

The same game where DT was pulling Sharpe around by his facemask? lmao

That's a great memory!

I’ve got to hand it to Sharpe though. He was one ….

The Chiefs fan in me says he doesnt deserve the fine

But the sensible sports fan says that if he doesn’t get a fine, it will just open up the door to other acts of “frustration” by players that will get progressively worse until it will be out of control. There are always players showing their frustration out on the field, and the more “pronounced” ones will ALWAYS get fined. I agree that the fines for touchdown celebrations are way outta hand, but seriously? Flipping the bird during a broadcasted football game, in any context, deserves a fine.

Probably every play in an NFL game has guys cussing each other out

and in some cases the referees. I can see your point about the Chiefs fan in you (and Me).

Yeah, cussing on the field is (regrettably) part of the game

But when you flip ANYONE off in a game, it is now in the media, and publicized. There will be people calling for him to be fined, and rightfully so.

No fine deserved

I give kudos to Vrabel for not saying anything and ONLY flipping the finger. I actually like him much more now as well. I hope that his act, whether fined or not, will light a fire under the whole team and inspire them.

Lanier63, you really gave me a good laugh, so thank you. “he just simply held up a hand signal telling them they were "number 1" on that field that day.” had me rolling!!

Fines are a way for the NFL to donate money to its favorite Charities

So I say fine him. He did violate the personal conuct policy, and if Ochocinco is getting fined for things likek not wearing a white chin strap, or coaches getting fined for criticizing blatantly bad calls, sure fine him for his rude gesture.

Now if this money went back into the NFL pocket, or if the fine was a rediculously high amoutn I would be against it. These players know the rules they need to play by, and whether we agree with them or not, they are getting paid 100’s of thousands of dollars, if not millions to play a game and follow the rules. So flip the bird all you like, but know that some worthy charity is going to be happy you did.

PS… this is not an endorsement of the NFL’s rules, I think they are starting to take all of the fun and excitement out of the game personally.

Can the Chiefs free agency needs (money) be one of those charities? :)

If it isn't on film

I dont think he’ll get fined. The pudding has the proof, or something like that.

If you only knew...
