Random Thoughts - Deer Season Edition
Before I go deer hunting this week, I want to leave you all with some random thoughts.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*I want Toby Gerhart to win the Heisman. He leads the nation in rushing yards and touchdowns. He's the main reason why Stanford has been so good. If not him, then Suh from Nebraska. I'd love to see another defensive player win the big one.
*Getting Jake O'Connell in the draft this year is a real headscratcher. We actually traded with Miami to get him. So far he has made NO impact. None. I don't care if he's primarily a blocking tight end - I'd like to have seen a little more out of him. I don't care if he was only drafted in the 7th round - we still traded for a no-impact player. It doesn't make sense to trade with another team to get a no-impact player.
*There has been a lot of complaining about the Chiefs and the veteran free-agents they picked up in the offseason. Some say "All we got are washed-up old guys".....That may be so, but at least Pioli went out and tried to get us some pieces for the right 53. That's better than getting nothing. And as far as the free agent pool goes, the 2009 class was pretty bare. Albert Haynesworth was the only big player out there I can think of.
*Speaking of Haynesworth, I remember some AP members were really pushing for us to get him. Honestly if we had brought him here to KC I would have been more pissed off about that than us getting "washed-up, over the hill" veterans. Think about it: he seriously underperformed for most of his career. All of a sudden he started playing hard - right in time for a new contract. Then after Tennessee let him go, the Redskins gave him a HUGE contract. I would think that a football player who gets a $100M contract would be a game changer. Defensive tackles do not really really fit the description of a "game changer". Don't think that I'm knocking on Haynesworth: he's played well (not great) for Washington this season. But does playing well and not great really worth $100M? I don't think so.
*Last year my girlfriend and I went to the Chiefs-Bills game. We both got BBQ from from the Gates kiosk on the bottom level. I won't lie - it was pretty disappointing. It was warm at best, and it didn't taste very "smoky". I've heard that Gates is one of the city's biggest barbeque joint. Was my experience a fluke, or is that how it is everywhere? Oh, and by the way: Arthur Bryant's is amazing!
That's all for now. Feel free to comment and respond. Take care.

There is no player mentioned here.

And yes the FA pool was slim...
But Houshmandzadeh was available, Bart Scott went to the Jets, most of the good players resigned with their team last year Asomugha, Jordan Gross, Ray Lewis, Kurt Warner, and 3 elite guys were Franchised. Which is exactly why I think Wilfork is going to stay in NE, dude is still relatively young and is just now in his prime.

And Damnit... I should have organized this better...
Haynesworth is a big reason why the Redskins have one of the best pass defenses. Haynesworth absorbs blocks and creates lanes for linebackers. When you have a dominant DT you dont have to blitz and you can drop more guys back. Just because DT isn’t racking up stats doesn’t mean he isn’t arguably the most important guy on the defensive field. Ray Lewis has always had a dominant NT in Baltimore.

I meant to put in Jake O'Connell. I fixed that now.
Thanks for catching that for me, averagegatsby
I’m afraid I prematurely shot my wad on what was supposed to be a dry run, if you will, so now I’m afraid I have something of a mess on my hands. -Arrested Development
When we blitz, have the LB's do a KC Strip. Do this in rememberance of DT.
yup- very pedestrian stuff
Bryant’s
LC’s
Jackstack
several others as well … not Gates

I'll take that...
assuming it’s in no particular order. Jack Stack used to be set up there, but for reasons I don’t remember, but will blame on Carl because I can, no longer do. Too bad, as it’s my admittedly biased favorite. (Gotta stick with the family connection)
Deer Season...
Good luck getting a big one… I live in Central Kansas and that is my other passion…
If you get a B&C buck I demand pictures :)
WE lost to WHO?
Maybe we should start a thread to share hunting pictures.
The season eneded in Saskatchewan yesterday. Good a nice one. We are spoiled with big game hunting. I had a good season, but should have been better. I got a nice whitetail (gross 170 typical), but missed a 200 class typical mule deer with my bow. I will have to get him next year.
I would be down for that!
I would love to come up to Canada and hunt Ive watched many hunts up there and man you guys are lucky!
Where do you hunt in Saskatchewan?
Why hunting lovers all over the world don’t go to Preeceville/Canora/Okla area is beyond me. When I used to drive there, I’d have to slalom around moose and whitetail.

I hunt close to home for the most part.
I have been praying for a draw moose tag for the area I hunt whitetail. On the first day of whitetail season I saw 16 moose and 2 were bulls well over 50 inches. The area around Preecebille is nice especially south in the farmalnd. The forest populations have dropped a bit.
By the way, what in the hell were you doing around Okla.
I do not think there are 50 people in the world who even heard of it! I worked in Wadena for 5 years before moving to estevan. Miss that country. Estevan is kind of a shithole.
Haha I worked at the Credit Union in Preeceville/Canora many moons ago
I hit a moose with my car after returning from Wing night at the Lintlaw bar.
BTW in the battle between Moose and Mazda, moose wins.
