Before I go deer hunting this week, I want to leave you all with some random thoughts.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*I want Toby Gerhart to win the Heisman. He leads the nation in rushing yards and touchdowns. He's the main reason why Stanford has been so good. If not him, then Suh from Nebraska. I'd love to see another defensive player win the big one.
*Getting Jake O'Connell in the draft this year is a real headscratcher. We actually traded with Miami to get him. So far he has made NO impact. None. I don't care if he's primarily a blocking tight end - I'd like to have seen a little more out of him. I don't care if he was only drafted in the 7th round - we still traded for a no-impact player. It doesn't make sense to trade with another team to get a no-impact player.
*There has been a lot of complaining about the Chiefs and the veteran free-agents they picked up in the offseason. Some say "All we got are washed-up old guys".....That may be so, but at least Pioli went out and tried to get us some pieces for the right 53. That's better than getting nothing. And as far as the free agent pool goes, the 2009 class was pretty bare. Albert Haynesworth was the only big player out there I can think of.
*Speaking of Haynesworth, I remember some AP members were really pushing for us to get him. Honestly if we had brought him here to KC I would have been more pissed off about that than us getting "washed-up, over the hill" veterans. Think about it: he seriously underperformed for most of his career. All of a sudden he started playing hard - right in time for a new contract. Then after Tennessee let him go, the Redskins gave him a HUGE contract. I would think that a football player who gets a $100M contract would be a game changer. Defensive tackles do not really really fit the description of a "game changer". Don't think that I'm knocking on Haynesworth: he's played well (not great) for Washington this season. But does playing well and not great really worth $100M? I don't think so.
*Last year my girlfriend and I went to the Chiefs-Bills game. We both got BBQ from from the Gates kiosk on the bottom level. I won't lie - it was pretty disappointing. It was warm at best, and it didn't taste very "smoky". I've heard that Gates is one of the city's biggest barbeque joint. Was my experience a fluke, or is that how it is everywhere? Oh, and by the way: Arthur Bryant's is amazing!
That's all for now. Feel free to comment and respond. Take care.
