Chiefs are going backwards?

Cassel/Haley lead the way...

Star-divide

Let me just start out by saying that I watch every snap of every game the Chiefs play, and I am usually optimistic when it comes to this team but this past game ruined it for me.  How did the KC Chiefsd allow the Broncos to come in here and destroy us for 60 minutes?

1.  Todd Haley has no idea when to call a fake anything, nor should he even have considered faking a punt deep in our territory when the Broncos had been marching all over our facemasks the previus 30 minutes.

2.  Matt Cassell shouldn't be getting paid nearly as much as he is, and he is just not a good QB, he should give some of the money back so we can get some FAs in here in the off season, with the league going uncapped soon, we need all the moey we can get.  Lastly on this part, Matt Cassell is awful!!!!!  I said it a few weeks ago and I am saying it now....biggest waste of 60 million ever!

3.  Our defense came up with a couple big plays in the 1st half, kept it respectable and I actualy though we had a chance to take it to the wire.  What happened at halftime?  The defense came out and was given crappy situations from the get go, and actaully held them to a fieldgoal once or twice off of those situations if I remember correctly.  But when your coach, QB, and RB give them the ball so easily and in our own territory, blowouts are what result.

It was a sad display by then entire team as a whole, WRs can't catch, and don't tell me it would have been different with Dwayne "I drop em too" Bowe.  He isn't fast enough to get open anyways.  We all though we were on the right track, and now we have consistently moved 5 steps back after moving one step forward.  Oh my goodness, can we even say, "next year?"

Oh ya.

I will give it up for D.T. # 58, he was the best, and should be remmebered that way. Just wish we could have played better on his day against the team he destroyed for years.

Really?

I am glad that this terrible post got under your skin enough to have you at least comment on it, opinions are what drive sites like this and if you don’t like my opinion, or how I express my opinion then don’t waste your time, obviously the title of the post was enough to get you to read it. Have a nice day.

I don't think it's a situation

Where we’re going backward. We’re generally the same team that started the year. We beat a bad oakland team with what is possibly the worst qb in the history if the NFL.

Then, We got excited about a win over a steelers team, that outplayed us but made too many mistakes, and is proving isn’t an elite team.

I agree that Cassell isn’t worth 60 mil. I still assert that we should have let him play the year with the franchise tag, then signed him when his value was much lower because of a poor year.

In all honesty though, I’m done being mad. If we’re honest with ourselves we all knew we’d have this type of year.

In regards to Cassell

Hindsight is always 20/20. Unfortunately for us in this case, at this time, it has turned out to be a bad decision to throw that much money at him. Its important, as we move forward, to not make the same mistakes on any upcoming signings. Lord knows we will be signing a lot of high dollar draft pics and FA in the upcoming few years.

Big part of the culture change. Also a QB who could survive the beating and get back up.

He’s still good enough to give a base-level assessment of the WR corps, which KC obviously needed. Not a bad choice, and he’s done the team a lot of good that’s not immediately obvious, but pretty profound. Borderline as to being worth the price tag, and certainly doubtful he will remain the starter, let alone play out his contract. But it’s too early to tell, without WR and OL fixed, what his ceiling is.

But coming off the Ravens game on MNF, when two VERY GOOD QBs faced one another, EACH under difficult circumstances, Cassel definitely seems to be lacking under duress. Flacco and Rodgers are very good at using their feet to create opportunities for themselves, and very good at seizing those opportunities. That being said, there were still numerous picks thrown by both of them. I’m just not sure that Cassel isn’t sizing up like a Steve Bono, with all the physical tools, but same lack of pocket awareness and ability to find the receiver off the scramble.

it's not really an issue of hindsight

if you said it when he first signed. I think most people would be able to tell that cassell wouldn’t have earned a big payout with the lack of talent around him .

Generally the same, but quite a lot of roster-churning at the low end.

Pioli made depth picks, seemed to me, and bottom-feeding off the waiver wire (pretty effectively), has added more depth, still. Even a couple starting-caliber players, especially if you count Ndukwe and Alleman, who were, to be precise, acquired in trade.

WRs with whom we were dissatisfied (and dissatisfied by modest-at-best attempts to upgrade) are mostly gone or demoted. Don’t know about Bobby Wade, but Chambers and Long were upgrades. Chambers may or may not stick, depending on how aggressive KC is about adding WR talent. But Long will have a role, I expect, though I’m unsure how big a role it will be.

Compared to last April or even last September, it seems to me that things are more clearcut, and that the foundations are looking much more solid.
