I am a lifelong fan of this KC Chiefs team, I have been since I was young and I will be until I die. I am more of a Koolaid drinker because I know on any given Sunday every team has a chance. I also am not so naive to think that we could turn this franchise around in one quick offseason.
That being said I didn't feel my expectations for this team were set too high at the start of the season, but now I am not so sure. My expectations: win division games.
As we are all aware of, last season we only one 2 games. This year we are already have one more than that. Where as I am glad we have won more games my disappointment is coming from the games we lose. Not all of them, as I said I didn't expect a miracle turn around but I expected to compete within our division.
Our two wins last year were against division rivals. This year, we have only one win in our division. We have a chance to pick up a second division win when we face Denver at Mile High the last week of the season, but historically we don't fair so well in Denver.
When Todd Haley came in from AZ and took over the franchise I was under the impression he wanted to win these division games. in 2008 we lost both our games to SD by one point. Our poor conditioning and coaching was not enough to get us through to the end of the game. Haley's tough conditioning and work out program were supposed to help us stay competitive and finish games. Instead though we are being blown out by the teams we play the most.
It's not just that we are losing these games, it's that we are not even competing in them. This is where my frustration and disappointment are coming from. Last season we were in these games until the end when we ran out of gas, this year I am wondering what the week or preparation was because yesterday wasn't the only day it looked like we didn't have a game plan against a team we know so well.
I can take having a less than .500 season. I can take not being a playoff contender. What I can not take is losing more games to our rivals than we win. I hope that our front office has a plan to improve this next year because they sure blew it this year.
