AP Hall Of Fame Nominations
The way this is going to work is we are going to take the top ten rec'd names in this thread and then take a vote from those and five will be enshrined in the AP Hall of Fame. Please take consideration of more than just comments and post made by any certain user. Please go by the quality of content they provide on here to make Arrowhead Pride the most popular blog on SB Nation. Just start putting up your nominations and Rec any name you think should be in the top ten. This will start tonight and end after the Sunday night game next week. Please Rec this to keep it up for all to see and good luck to all members!
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

no offense
cool idea, but i dont really see why we need to do this. if you’re a regular to AP, you’re aware of the users who make this site the best on the web. they’re the ones who spend countless hours gathering information, writing articles for the front page, bumping stuff to the front page, etc. you see their usernames all the time; don’t know why we need to do special recognition.

You dont have to participate if you dont want to
I agree we see all these guys work all the time but this is fun and its a cool way to make sure they know we appreciate them. Ive had enough of being down on stuff today.
i getcha
i obviously appreciate all that chris, joel, and all the longtime greats named in this post do. they have effectively changed the internet for me for the better. i don’t contribute much (not enough hours in the day), but i visit multiple times every day, and have been doing so since long before the site looked so f ’in cool and streamlined. Love the chiefs and love the amount of effort that you guys put in to make this truly a unique and satisfying experience.

So how many times can we vote?
I don’t know if you guys can monitor it, or even care to do so, but it might help to narrow the field.

Im not going to put a limit on it

I was trying to take the higher ground unlike our Northern Spy and not nominate myself. I should get bonus points for the sheer volume of comments during the open threads.

For the Kool-Aid banter. I loved Porkchops Kool-Aid post, and Krays post about staying up all night making some Kool-Aid!

This post got me thinking (always dangerous)
After the season is over we should have the “AP Awards”. We could do a whole series of awards for this season (Poster of the Year, New Member of the Year, Best Post, Funniest Post, etc.). We could nominate this same way and then make a poll out of each one a week out from the super bowl with the game as the cut off.

For what it's worth...
I don’t think this is a good idea.
I completely agree, of course, that those who labor week and and week out to make this blog what is it deserve our appreciation and respect – people like ChiefDJ, Matt Conner, Jon Yoon, NJChiefsFan and Bewsaf. And of course… Joel and Chris.
I’m sure I have failed to mention many others who work hard to provide insights into our favorite team every week. So I will say now that I do appreciate those efforts… even if I forgot to mention someone’s name. This blog is, quite simply, a treasure.
However… I think this is a bad idea – and I speak from no small experience in participating in (and even managing) an online community like this one.
Unfortunately, it is almost inevitable that HOF nominations and voting will become a popularity contest – one that isn’t based on a particular user’s contributions to the site, but rather on whether their views are shared by others. This ultimately works against the free exchange of ideas… which is one of the things that makes this blog so special.

Nice post, RDOGuy
And that was the original reason I was looking for how many times a user was rec’d, rec’s per post, even how many times they’ve been on the front page. Those types of things will show at least a consistent quality from a user, and hopefully that’s taken into account rather than large numbers of posts/comments. Maybe that will deter most of the “popularity contest” voting trends.
"I don't know if I want to go to New York. They'll have to pay me a lot more money because I like it here in Kansas City." -- Roger Maris
I agree with what you guys are saying and I will shoot Joel an email when I get home this evening
to see if I can figure that out
I have to agree with RDO
this site is a treasure to all of us and I have never encountered a HOF that wasn’t about popularity. Some guys may not be familiar with THE_TRUTH for example, but he is one of the best. I fail to understand why, in only its young time frame of existence, that it would even want to consider a HOF at this time?
If you are going to do it though, wait a year and revisit it when you can come up with a more complete entry requirement. Doing it now because it was a popular idea, would surely run someone off because they got their feelings hurt not being nominated. This to me would be similar to a Church voting for a Mother of the Year on Mothers Day. Just aint right IMHO.
Winning begins with Attitude - Haley and Pioli will be winners in KC!
I'll forever be a Chiefs fan! Only God himself could take that away from me, but when I get to my great reward, I'll rejoin two bigger fans, my Mom and Dad.

Alright I can talk to see what Joel says
I can see where you guys are coming from and I agree I would hate for this to be a popularity contest I just thought it was a cool idea but I also do agree that it could be a little pre mature.
But I appreciate you as a viable part of this site tom!

This is true.
And with all the new traffic, some may not be familiar with users like THE_TRUTH or TexasChief, who are great posters. Also, with my scheme of “stats”, we’ve got so many more people than there were in January of this year, let alone a couple years ago. Those numbers would probably be skewed too…

Agree with the above
Joel and Chris should be the only inductees THIS year and let see what happens next year. I enjoy all the people that come here and want to read their thoughts
AP should have a HOF, with the recent induction of DT, it seems timely, But of course the 1st class should be the 1st CLASS :)

Not a fan of this kind of thing myself
There’s a ton a great guys and gals here. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts. There’s a bunch of good people who contribute commentary here that don’t necessarily post up much. There’s no reason to make an exclusive club out of the membership. AP ROCKS YOUR FACE and it’s because EVERYONE plays a part.

Community-building is fun. But not somethin' I'd do a-purpose.
But I come here because others add their eyes and thoughts to what I see and think about the team in which I’m interested. I’m kind of a crusty bastard, myself, and never came here looking for new friends or to network socially. Just more good people speaking their truth about my team than is to be found ‘most anywhere else. Generally less regulated and more responsible as a group – self-regulating. Friendships do develop through just that, and that’s great.
This HOF stuff is the kind of social thing that is probably good for AP and for many users, but it just gets in the way of football talk. This is one of the reasons I most prefer to watch games by myself, rather than have a room full of friends, who end up more interested in each other than in what’s transpiring on the field (and nobody wants me to roll back a couple plays to see when Gilberry’s number showed up on the field during a defensive series).
Frankly, I’ve noticed more fluff and less real stuff, lately. I like Bewsaf’s stuff. Texas Chief keeps on-task and talks football. stagdsp, of course, and many others. KaloPhoenix posts hard-core “What I see on the field” and “How I understand the game” stuff, which I really like.
Prediction for '09: Chiefs are looking like a .500 team, especially considering Denver's inattention to D-Line, Chokeland's disarray, and a San Diego team that looks like it's on the decline. With a weak schedule, Chiefs steal a few and win between 7 and 9 games, and if .500 or better, will contend for supremacy in a weak division.
