Chiefs' Kolby Smith to IR; Javarris Williams Promoted

Yesterday, Kansas City Chiefs RB Kolby Smith was ruled out for Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos. Today, he's been ruled out for the entire season.
The Chiefs formally placed Smith on IR, a move many of us expected. It's too bad for him. This is the second consecutive season that's been cut short due to injury.
With the open roster spot, the Chiefs promoted Javarris Williams from the practice squad. This is also a move many of us expected.
Williams was a 7th round draft pick of the Pioli/Haley regime. The 5'10", 223 pound back comes from Tennessee State. AP's Matt Conner interviewed a reporter from the Tennessean and Williams' former college coach.
Williams signed a contract with the Chiefs on July 23rd. He was released on the team's final cutdown in September and immediately re-signed to the practice squad.
Williams could get an opportunity to see some action, too. Dantrell Savage is also expected to miss Sunday's game meaning after Jamaal Charles, Williams will be in line along with Tim Castille.

I hope to see him get a lot of carries in the fourth quarter
What with all the starters being pulled due to our massive thirty point lead

I Suppose That's Probably It For Smith
He had a mediocre 2007 and terrible 2008 for the Chiefs before he got hurt, and was getting only 2.2 yards per carry this year, so I can’t imagine they’d bring him back next year.

That's a shame, because he had talent.
But, I agree he’s probably a future UFL superstar.

He has to prove he can stay healthy before he's a star anywhere

Everyone In The NFL Has Talent
But I don’t think Smith had NFL-level talent, even without the injuries. I suspect you’re right, though, that he’ll land in an alternate league, if anywhere.

I'm excited to see him play
Of all the backs at the combine last year, he had the 6th fastest 40 time and tied for the 6th most reps on the bench press.
Look here to see who he ranked ahead of…

He was taped to the goal post and had Gatorade dumped on him.

What do we do with the Practice squad spot?
We Will kick at least 4 Teams Asses in 09. Almost there :)
And Succop will be the Key in two of them. Skins & Raiders! Pittsburgh Sweet!

Sad about Smith
Haley spoke so glowingly of him. I guess NFL really does = Not For Long.

It's a shame.
Kolby’s a good guy, but not a spectacular talent. Hopefully he’ll land somewhere he can thrive.

definitely rooting for Java!
He has the chance to be an NFl player, let’s see if he takes advantage of his opportunity. I think Haley has created competition and is encouraging opportunities. Sometimes guys step up and other times guys don’t but lets hope we drafted another keeper this year.
The game tape i watched of him was always positive. He’s not a home-run hitter as a runner he’s a guy that will get you runs of 3-16 yards all the time. I think he sets up and waits for blocks well. He has a frame to take a pounding and he runs aggressively. I think he could be a back that could be beneficial to this offense and Haley’s play-calling over the final 5 games.
