Championship Weekend Open Thread

There are some great games on today during this championship weekend. I'm going to focus on the big two but here are some links on the other games:

Week 14: Live game threads and scores

Week 14 NCAA Football Buffet

Florida v. Alabama

First up is the SEC Championship at 3 PM: #1 Florida v. #2 Alabama.

You can catch up on the Gators at Alligator Army and you can read what Alabama fans are saying at Roll Bama Roll. Here's what Alligator Army has to say about today's game:

A loss today is a failure for either team. Alabama and Florida do not celebrate division championships. Getting to Atlanta means nothing. History will only remember who is in Pasadena on January 7.

Should be a great game.

The Chiefs have also been checking out the Gators this year.

Texas v. Nebraska

Next up, we've got the Big 12 Championship at 7 PM: #3 Texas v. Nebraska. Follow Texas fans at Burnt Orange Nation and Husker fans at Corn Nation.

The player to watch in this game is Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. Chiefs GM Scott Pioli talked about Suh back in October:

"I had a chance on Thursday night to go to the Nebraska/Missouri game," he said, "which was an interesting football game.  There are a couple of top players on defense, or who are believed to be top players on defense who were playing in that game, one for Nebraska and one for Missouri, and a number of other interesting players.  There were a lot of NFL players out on that field the other day."

Get your picks in too in the comments. Should be a great day for football. Game times are after the jump, courtesy of Burnt Orange Nation.

I'm so geeked for the Fla/Ala game!

I am not a huge College Football honk but for some reason the last 2 years I’ve developed such a Tebowner that I’ve had to consult a doctor.

Wow, I am excited for this game for the exact opposite...

I hate Tebow and Meyer so much that I can’t wait to see the Tide roll them in Tuscaloosa. God I fucking hate Urban Meyer… Probably comes from loving Notre Dame football WAAAAAYYYYY too much.

I don't get how someone would hate Tebow

What has he done that would cause you to hate him? I hate the way the media drools all over him saying shit like “If you spend 5 minutes with this young man you are a better person for it” but he’s a great leader, great football player and from what I’ve seen a great kid

He's the product of Urban Meyer...

I understand that this is irrational, and that he is a great college player and an even better human being… But I fucking Hate Florida, I fucking Hate Urban Meyer, and unfortunately for Tebow, he is the figure head…. So Fuck Tebow!

Fair enough

I was a huge Marco Scutaro fan for several years. Now he is playing in Boston the worst organization in sports, so I’d run him over with my Jeep if I had the chance. I am not the kind of guy who only cheers for laundry, I still love guys like Tony Gonzalez and Carlos Delgado (guys who left for greener grass) but I have such an irrational hate for the BoSox that it makes me shake. If Roy Halladay signs with Boston, I’ll quit baseball.

well in all fairness...

He will have to be traded.

by averagegatsby on Dec 5, 2009 12:29 PM CST up reply actions

He's stated he will use his notrade clause if its not the right situation

Then playout 2010 and sign with whomever he wants in 2011.
I hope we trade him to the NL for a boatload of prospects. It sucks but I’m a realist at this point.

Yeah...

Im not sure who in the National League can get him though. There are only a handful of teams in baseball that will be able to give up what Toronto will want, but I dont think any of them are in the NL. The Dodgers could, but with the way that divorce is going to play out they aren’t going to take on any huge contracts. Now that the Cubs ownership is filed out, maybe he could be their first target, but I dont think they have the minor league talent.

I myself hate the Yankees, and because my hatred for the Yankees ran so deep I began to root for the Red Sox, and now Im beginning to sour on them too.

i was a tim tebow hater then i seen a special

Where he was speakin bible to in mates in prison now mind u most those guys have no idea who he was and he was speakin in front of men who we killers and u could see when he first started talking that they really didn’t care about anything he had to say. To them he just looks like a really good lookin guy there to make a name. Even I was watching and was like this guy has nothing to say after he started talking the inmates listend and I listend and at the end these criminals were hugging the guy. After that I told myself I don’t like the guy but his will and determination definatly earned my respect and he was speaking to these men on his own time. He didn’t have to do it but he wanted to. U have to respect that.

but didn’t want it in the comments to that post…

I went to high school with a kid who’s parents for at least a while (not sure if they still are) did the fireworks display for the Chiefs games, I was so jealous of that guy for having sideline passes to home games… You my friend have overtaken him on the jealousy factor by a lot.

There isn't a place in the world that I would rather watch a baseball game...

Thats not to say that I dont love Arrowhead too. But to be completely honest to actually WATCH a game Id rather do it on TV. Baseball is different, I can spend $7 on a baseball ticket chill and enjoy an awesome summer evening at a baseball game.

I really think that KC nailed the stadium renovations.

I was only there once...

on a school field trip for being on the crossing gaurd team in 6th grade. I remember buying some pens that were shaped like baseball bats as souvenirs. I lost them before I lft the stadium and was trying not to cry in front of my friends on the way back to the bus to head back to columbia….it was a tragic day in my life….lol

Here is my problem with drafting Tim Tebow in the 1st

Amazing talent, amazing leader.

BUT

Depending on where he is drafted he is going to command huge guaranteed money. He’s the most effective when he’s out of the pocket and running 12-15 times a day. If I’m a franchise, do I allow my franchise QB to be exposed like that? Keeping him safe will probably also keep him ineffective

If Florida loses this, and Texas takes a husker up the @$$, who plays for the championship?

Especially with Florida getting waxed like this

10/19/09: The Chiefs are on their way to an 11-5 season...I think....
10/26/09: Okay, so it'll be 10-6, I can live with that...
11/9/09: So KC spots the league 7 games. 9-7 is respectable.
11/30/09: I'll consider 8-8 a success and move on

Probably a Horned Frog over a Bearcat or Bronco

We Will kick at least 4 Teams Asses in 09. Almost there :)
And Succop will be the Key in two of them. Skins & Raiders! Pittsburgh Sweet!

Alabama outplayed them in every aspect of the game

Ingram went nuts, Tebow threw picks and the Bama freshman Richards pounded the living $h!t out of them.

That about sums it up

10/19/09: The Chiefs are on their way to an 11-5 season...I think....
10/26/09: Okay, so it'll be 10-6, I can live with that...
11/9/09: So KC spots the league 7 games. 9-7 is respectable.
11/30/09: I'll consider 8-8 a success and move on

So i take it Tebow couldnt run?

Thats pretty much what he will look like in the NFL against real defensive players IMO

Bama contained him all day

They did a great job staying at home when FL ran the option. They funneled Tebow inside and gang tackled him all day.

Like i said

Thats probably what will happen with Tebow. All you have to do is look at Vince Young BEFORE he became a decent pocket passer. Tebow could be a good NFL QB, but he will be a raw recruit indeed.

They can score quick on mistakes

And I wouldn’t put it past them. Texas has been equally bad on offense.
I would put my money on Bama currently

We Will kick at least 4 Teams Asses in 09. Almost there :)
And Succop will be the Key in two of them. Skins & Raiders! Pittsburgh Sweet!

How much of Texas miscues have been caused by Nebraska defense?

When McCoy has time he has done good things, but he’s only had time on one or two plays all game.

10/19/09: The Chiefs are on their way to an 11-5 season...I think....
10/26/09: Okay, so it'll be 10-6, I can live with that...

Finally the announcers mention Suh for Heisman

I like this quote from a Bruce Feldman story over at ESPN

It might be. Suh had six tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and an amazing INT; it had to wow anyone who was watching the game. Thing is, that’s basically the norm for this guy. Just ask Va. Tech, who had fits with him.

This kid has got to be considered

Wonder if the Pats would trade their 2 no 1's

with someone like the Rams to move up for a guy like Suh? That would be typical of the Pats to lose a Seymour.
But, I am aware that it’s not the Pats style to move up.

I think March madness is a joke too if you are trying to pick the best team in the country

You win March madness tourney – all it means it you won got hot in march and won a tourney. Doesn’t mean you were the best team in the country. Don’t get me wrong, it’s fun to watch. But not a true indicator of the best team in the country.

It doesn't matter if it was a dumb move by Colt or not

I hate TEX. But, the fact is the call was correct. You want to put blame on someone for a stupid move. You can blame the Neb kicker for kicking the ball out of bounds and giving TEX the ball on the 40.

by vincent2668 on Dec 5, 2009 10:38 PM CST up reply actions

So you already decided that any close game that TEX wong

You were going to call BS on the officials and NCAA. All I’m saying is that the NEBs lost that game when they gave TEX the ball on the 40. They kick off deep in the field of play, then there is no way TEX is going to go the length of the field to get in FG position.

I will say this....and we may agree also

If that play happens at any other point in the game…end of 1st quarter, end of first half…
They wouldn’t review it and they run out the clock in the half or the quarter. But, since it was the end of the game they do review it. I do find that to be a flaw in the replay of NCAA. You have to have standards on what you do and don’t review. And you can’t say, just because it was the end of the game – now we are going to review it because it is a more important time. And I’m sure that if this was ISU vs Colorado during the regular season, they would have just called the game over and let the clock run out.
