Friday Night Open Thread

Brrrr....It's 32 degrees here!

I just ate a deep fried chicken breast battered in Lay's Potato Chips. Needless to say, I'm feeling drowsy and it's only 8 PM. Is this what married life is all about? I sure hope so.

Here's a thread to chat Chiefs or anything else that's on your mind. There are some really good college football games on tomorrow - the SEC Championship and the Big 12 Championship are the big two.

We'll be up bright and early with fresh content for you. Chat away.

Here is the ESPN Insider list

Jim Harbaugh: Supposedly the top target; wife is from Kansas City
Kevin Sumlin: Big 12 experience, proponent of spread offense
Turner Gill: Big 12 legend at Nebraska, daughter is KU student
Larry Fedora: Has been at Baylor and Oklahoma State
Brent Venables: Would Kansas poach another OU assistant to replace Mangino?
Chris Petersen: Is Kansas still too far east for this West Coast guy?
Randy Edsall: Was hired by AD Perkins at UConn
Skip Holtz: Edsall’s UConn predecessor also was hired by Perkins
Nolan Cromwell: Former Jayhawks QB with mostly NFL coaching experience
Brian Billick: Longest of long shots who supposedly is friendly with Perkins
Tommy Tuberville: Here, there and everywhere
Phillip Fulmer: Will someone please give him a job before he has to beg?

I guess it depends on expectations.

Obviously Patterson has continued something that someone else started at TCU.
Kelly has I guess created his own thing at Cincinnatti. Will either translate to ND?
Schedule has some very winnable games and some definitely losable games due to traditional foes. Will ND change the scheduling to allow more success or continue to but heads with foes that have a scholastic advantage?

It better not, under the Weis era it got pretty soft.

There would have to be some major realignment...

you can’t just put ND in the Big 12 south. You would probably have to kick out Iowa State. But lets face it, if ND were to join a conference they would join the Big East, they are already in there for basketball.

I know but neither his Baylor...

they are actually making strides in their basketball program, and dont they have a pretty darn good baseball program… And I just read that they are actually pretty dominant in Tennis, they may not bring in the big money but the conferences still like the performance as a whole.

If ND were to join a conference they would join the Big East, though they aren’t going to. ND likes not having to share their TV contract with anyone.

Terrence Cody

I wonder what you guys think about drafting Terrence Cody from Alabama?he’s 6’5 365lbs and could really be a force on our dline, I hate to draft another nose tackle but the one we drafted is now to small and playing defensive end,I don’t really care for Ron Edwards and nose tackle is one of the most important postions in the 3-4 D.let me know who you guys want on your wish list for the drat?? Go CHIEFS!!!!!

by albuquerquechiefsfan on Dec 4, 2009 9:14 PM CST via mobile reply actions   1 recs

There are a handful of guys that if we took I would be happy...

Cody being won of them, of course when we took Dorsey I was screaming for Sedrick Ellis, who is a prototypical NT in a 3-4.

by averagegatsby on Dec 4, 2009 9:21 PM CST up reply actions

I like him to but he is 6’4 300lbs I think he would be another glen Dorsey in our D,nose tackle forced to play DE…

by albuquerquechiefsfan on Dec 4, 2009 9:28 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

I disagree...

6’4" is plenty tall enough, and he is such a freakish athlete that he will have to be doubled up because there aren’t many interior lineman who can match up with him. Most NT are double teamed because of their size, well Suh is so fast and agile he can do whatever he wants.

He is also such a gifted athlete that if he had to sacrifice a little to gain 20 pounds he would probably still be fine.

This space for rent.

by averagegatsby on Dec 4, 2009 9:32 PM CST up reply actions

You can go back and look it up...

I was the first guy here to start singing the praise of Suh, but I will be really surprised if he doesn’t go number 1 overall. The only way he doesn’t is if St.L gets top honors, because they have to take a QB. Suh should get Heisman votes, that guy is having one of the more freakish seasons I have ever seen, for his position its like a RB having a 2000 yard season.

you can't hate players that dominate a game like that...

I mean I hated Elway, but I also had all the respect for him in the world. Suh is the first player that I would ever guarantee to be a special player. I can’t ever remember being so sure that a player would be successful at the next level, maybe AdP, but I had no idea he would stay as healthy as he has.

This space for rent.

by averagegatsby on Dec 4, 2009 9:34 PM CST up reply actions

Everybody, and I mean everybody

Said the same thing about Dorsey as well. He dominated in college just like Suh. There is no sure thing in college. Talent can allow you to succeed at that level. In the pros, you need to be willing to put in the work to build the strength and learn the technique to be successful. It takes more than talent.

by jboot1 on Dec 5, 2009 12:04 AM CST up reply actions

Yes, but

Suh is more talented than Dorsey was in college. Much more.

"The way this works is you string together some good games, some good practices and you get momentum and you gain confidence," linebacker Mike Vrabel said. "It can be a real positive for your team. It builds on itself."

by cpa913 on Dec 5, 2009 12:33 AM CST up reply actions

But Suh is a prototypical DE. Not the same as Dorsey.

And i think Dorsey is very very good, and getting better. Still rather see him be a dominant DT on the right side of a dominant front 4.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

by hmills110 on Dec 5, 2009 2:15 AM CST up reply actions

I dont think Suh has ever played DE...

by averagegatsby on Dec 5, 2009 10:06 AM CST up reply actions

Thats not what I said...

Hell I think I even said it already in this thread, I thought Dorsey was too small, I wanted Sedrick Ellis.

This space for rent.

by averagegatsby on Dec 5, 2009 10:01 AM CST up reply actions

If he's on the board when my pick comes up, I probably take him.

Damn the consequences. Whatever my wonderful plans were, they’ll just have to be changed. Just get the player. I’ve said in other threads that if Suh were there, I’d take him and scrap the 3-4 idea for a few years. You can create a competitive 3-4 D with system picks and attention to depth, but staffing a 4-3 is a different matter; however, sitting where the Chiefs are, the addition of Suh gives ’em a dominant front 4 and a dominant D for the better part of a decade.

Move Dorsey back to DT, and run a defense others would try to copy, without realizing that it’s the talent that makes the 4-3 and not the scheme. I think you can PLAN intelligently for a 3-4, but you just don’t pass up a d-lineman of that caliber if he’s in your grasp. Even if you stick with 3-4, take the great player and trade someone if you have to.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

The list is very long

In no particular order…

Tackle
Guard
Center
ILB
OLB
Safety
Nose Tackle

Those are all positions of need, and hell we could probably use a back up running back, and though WR isn’t the biggest position of need, I would be tickled pink if they took him anyway.

We’ll see if you feel the same way about the “lay of the draft” as that time nears.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

About 19 degrees here....freezing!!!

In davenport iowa it is absolutely freezing, had to get out the big carhartt this week.
I’m pumped for next weekend for the KC Buffalo game because I will finally get to see a KC game, and it might be one they can win…. All this on a TV! Lol. Going to my grandparents next weekend to celebrate Christmas so I will be at my gparents who live right outside Kansas City. Soooo, let’s go get a win Chiefs this week and next week when I get to watch proudly! Never get KC games in Iowa where I am, the only game this year was philly, and that was only because of Vick return.

See ya Later Larry Johnson, or now forever known as "2.7"

Spikes is a MLB/ILB he should be what we are looking for.

if Hali and Stude can fill the OLB positions we need a guy to put Corey back at Backup.
Love him but that is what is best for the Chiefs

Well

It is the Chiefs SB nite.
And we can kinda disregard Hali as a LB so Spikes would be Our MLB, just like Corey Mays. So who cares what someone else said.

#2 Sergio Kindle Texas 6'4 239lbs

He’s pretty good to, but IMO we should draft Cody there is no way suh will be there when it’s our pick,I think the chances of Cody being there are real good and he fits the 3-4 nt IMO.

I guess I will watch Kindle and Spikes tomorrow and see

Kindle didn’t wow me in the last TX game I watched. and neither did MU Weatherspoon

How far is Dez Bryant expected to fall?

It’d be great if we could grab him in the second round. Personally, while I know we need a true NT, I’d be kinda upset if we get them with our first pick. I think we should bolster our offensive line.

This season, we’re struggling terribly because our offense can’t move the ball. I mean I know that there are numerous problems on both side of the ball, but if the offense keeps going 3 and out there has got to be an improvement somewhere.

Dez wont make it to us in the second round.

No way, he is projected as being a top 10 pick, so there is no way he falls to the late 30’s early 40’s for us to have a shot at him. Im still crossing my fingers for Golden Tate, Id rather he stayed for his Senior year though.

This space for rent.

But there's very good 2nd- and 3rd-round OL talent in this draft,

and not much 1st-round OL talent. I’d still plow 1st-day picks into OL, but not sure at all that there’s enough high end in this draft to justify using a 1st on OL.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

Getting back from seeing The Blind Side

Man, a really good movie.

I read the book a couple of years ago. It was one of my favorites (probably top 15) so I didn’t expect the movie to live up to expectations but it was well done.

….and Sandra Bullock is really good looking.

She's still a beautiful woman.

And I’m a sucker for the girl next door. We saw the preview for this when we went to see Funny People and I was the only one that seemed to think it looked interesting. Now look…

Did anyone else hear on 610 Sports

Whitlock called out Gretz. Apparently Gretz’s website is on Carl Peterson’s payroll. Whitlock basically said everything that Gretz writes comes from Carl.

Anyone have any information on that?
