Chiefs RB Williams a 'Possibility' to be Promoted From Practice Squad

As we realize that Kolby Smith's injury is serious enough to cause him to miss Sunday's game, and maybe the rest of the season, we'll begin to turn our focus to possible replacements for this weekend.  Assuming Dantrell Savage is out as well (listed as doubtful), there are a couple of options for the backup RB spot behind Jamaal Charles.

We already went over some of those options. Here's what Todd Haley had to say about it.

RB Javarris Williams is currently on the practice squad but Todd Haley said today, "That’s a possibility," when asked if he could be promoted.

"Obviously we need to see exactly where Savage is at and where we are at as a group. We’ve got a couple of plans that we’re ready to go with one way or another."

Haley said yesterday the Chiefs have a "Plan B, Plan C" and so on if Kolby Smith can't go this weekend.  And now that it appears Savage isn't likely to go either, FB Tim Castille is becoming not just a possibility but a probability this weekend.

"If Kolby is indeed out," Haley said, "I’m happy we have a guy like Tim Castille that we’ve added here recently that can play both positions. We haven’t given him the ball a bunch but we think he can play the halfback and fullback positions."

There you have it. If Savage can't go, look for Javarris Williams to be called up or Tim Castille to be given some carries.

Might as well see what Williams has in him.

Could become an asset or trade bait at the worst, rather than practice squad fodder. And hell they spent a pick on him, see what he can do.

If you only knew...

Coming out of college

he had a LOT of upside, just pretty raw talent-wise due to the tiny ass school he played for in college.

Hopefully the coaching staff has developed him enough to play at the next level by now

Bask in the glory that is Kwame Harris. Poor Alex...

Smith to IR and promote Williams

Guy can’t stay healthy

2009-10 Predictions:
1. Chiefs will win ATLEAST 6 games, which is a big improvement over 6 wins in 2 seasons
2. Succop will bring stability to the K position for the first time in years
3. Chiefs D will atleast double the number of sacks form last season
4. Cassel will be a top 15 QB
5. Todd Haley won't make a poster and jump around holding it up welcoming the Chiefs players to summer camp, I mean TRAINING camp

Yeah...

its time to let Smith go. He hasn’t finished a season in his 3 years.

Yeah, and I think he was hurt in college and missed the end of the season the year the Chiefs drafted him

Kolby Smith never had a serious injury, but had been knicked up.

Michael Bush on the other hand broke his tibia(shin)… which caused him to drop from a 1st round heisman trophy canidate(worthy) running back to a 4th round pick. Kolby was his backup, and did get dinged up a little.

It would seem that they would need to bring up Williams.

Looks like we only will have Charles, Cox and Castille in the backfield. I’d rather see what Williams has to offer for the rest of the season that to have Cox on the field.

I don’t care if his name doesnt start with a C.

Yep

Might as well get him in there and let him get his feet wet….I think at this point they should be giving a lot of guys a few snaps per game just to see what they got…Some guys dont practice well but show up for gameday….Cant hurt to evaluate in a game situation rather than just on the practice field…..
