Chiefs RB Kolby Smith Officially Out; Savage Doubtful
Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com reports that Chiefs RB Kolby Smith has been formally ruled out for Sunday's game against the Broncos. This is about what we expected when he wasn't on the practice field this afternoon.
Meanwhile, as I just noted a few minutes ago, Kent Babb of the Kansas City Star believes this could be the season ending variety of injury.
"Chiefs RB Kolby Smith's injury could be season-ending," Babb reports. "The team will know more after today, but he again could be placed on IR."
If that's the case, it'll be the second time Smith has been placed on IR in his short career.
Looney also reports the Chiefs put RB Dantrell Savage as doubtful on the injury report. This means he has about a 25% chance of playing, or highly unlikely.
So, it's nearly guaranteed that the Chiefs running backs on Sunday will go like this:
2. Tim Castille/Mike Cox (FBs)
It's also possible the Chiefs make a decision on Smith after today and, if it is IR, rookie RB Javarris Williams is sitting on the practice squad.
The Chiefs also worked out former Bengals RB Chris Perry a couple weeks ago so that's a possibility.

If they've seen this coming all week,
I wonder if we’ll see more of Cox as a single back. He can catch out of the backfield and pick up rushers.

kolby is toast i dont see that guy
Being in our future plans. He’s been hurt forever and only had one good game 2 years ago against a bad raider defense time to cut ties

No to Chris Perry, please.
Bring up Willaims…and get the kid some carries in a game. Let’s see what he’s got. What have we got to lose?
Glad to hear someone else say this...
Never been a big fan of Perry. Seems to me he had a history of injuries and when he finally did get a chance to compete for a starting job, Cedric Benson beat him out for that. I’d rather not sign another candidate for IR and perpetual underachiever…
"Every day is an evaluation and if you’re not out there how can we depend on you? If you’re out there and you don’t know what to do, how can we depend on you?" Accountability -- Haley-style...
Bring up Williams.
I for one am a bit anxious to see what this guy can do. Maybe he can help us in some way when JC is resting. I know we saw him in pre-season but has anyone heard anything on how he has done on the practice squad?

We should use Mike Cox more
Mike Cox is good at finding the hole and hitting it hard. Just keep pounding away with Mike Cox and watch the Denver defense become bruised and tired. With Mike Cox large size he should get good penetration against the Denver D everytime he goes up.
