Following the trend from around the NFL blogosphere, I decided it was time to name the Chiefs All-Decade team, AP style. We still start by voting for each position and I will be posting polls over the next few days. The data will then be compiled next Friday (January 8, 2010) and will comprise the first ever official Arrowhead Pride Chiefs All-Decade team.
We will vote for 11 offensive players and 11 defensive players, as well as HC, GM, LS, KR/PR, P, and K.
We will start at the top: quarterbacks. To be eligible for voting, the player must have thrown a pass this decade (2000-2009), has to have started a game at QB, and has to have started the majority of their games at that position (sorry Mark Bradley). The QB who receives the top number of votes by next Friday will be the Chiefs QB of the Decade.
Player profiles and stats are available after the jump. Feel free to comment to back up (campaign possibly) for your vote. The source for all statistics will be pro-football-reference.com. Thanks for participating and feel free to rec to keep this alive. I know some of these votes may be obvious, but I wanted to keep it democratic regardless.
Please vote for the other positions as well (this list will be growing):
Trent Green :: 6 yrs :: 2001 – 2006
The face of the Chiefs high-powered passing attack under Dick Vermeil. Elected to two Pro Bowls as a Chief (2002, 2005). I can name off more accolades, but I don’t think that is necessary.
88 G / 88 GS :: 1720 comp. / 2777 att. :: 61.9% comp. :: 21, 459 yds :: 118 TD / 85 INT :: 243.9 ypg
Brodie Croyle :: 4 yrs :: 2006 – Current
Drafted in the third round in the 2006 NFL Draft as a potential quarterback of the future. Was named the team’s starter going into the 2008 season but went down in the second game with a season-ending injury.
16 G/ 8 GS :: 173 comp. / 300 att. :: 57.7% comp. :: 1,631 yds :: 8 TD / 8 INT :: 101.9 ypg
Damon Huard :: 3 yrs :: 2006 – 2008
Was the Chiefs primary starter for two seasons due to injury and exceeded expectations.
26 G / 21 GS :: 404 comp. / 657 att. :: 61.5% comp. :: 4,612 yds :: 24 TD / 18 INT :: 177.4 ypg
Matt Cassel :: 1 yr. :: 2009 – Current
Came to the Chiefs via trade prior to the 2009 season and quickly signed an extension.
14 / 14 GS :: 258 comp. / 469 att. :: 55.0% comp. :: 2,717 yds :: 16 TD / 15 INT :: 194.1 ypg
Elvis Grbac :: 1 yr :: 2000
Only started one year for the Chiefs in this decade, but it was his best season and he was named to the Pro Bowl.
15 G / 15 GS :: 326 comp. / 547 att. :: 59.6% comp. :: 4,169 yds :: 28 TD / 14 INT :: 277.9 ypg
Warren Moon :: 1 year :: 2000
Legendary QB who started 1 game as a Chief this decade. Per the criteria, I must list him.
2 G / 1 GS ::15 comp. / 34 att. :: 44.1% comp. :: 208 yds :: 1 TD / 1 INT :: 104.0 ypg
Tyler Thigpen :: 3 yrs :: 2007 – 2009
Was the Chiefs primary starter for one season. Was traded in midseason 2009 to the Miami Dolphins for a draft pick. Only Chiefs QB to have caught a touchdown pass this decade.
14 G / 11 GS :: 232 comp. / 420 att – 54.8% comp. :: 2,608 yds :: 18 TD / 12 INT :: 186.3 ypg
