Chiefs Coach Would Have Gone for the Win in Colts Situation
I tried to avoid talking about the Colts situation. It's been ALL over the sports talk shows, newspapers and blogs.
Go for the undefeated season or rest your starters to prepare for the playoffs?
The Colts, of course, chose to rest their starters and ended up taking a loss last weekend. They've been highly criticized for the move.
How would the Chiefs head coach Todd Haley have handled the situation?
"It’s been my experience, and really the way you have to think, you have to play to win," he said today. "That’s how you do it. If you deviate you end up…at least that’s my opinion."
I think most of us would agree with this decision.

Is it just me
Or is that Braun advertisement rediculously annoying?

You can use an adblocker with Firefox
I had to enable the flash blocker because the multiple flash ads from Sprint were constantly causing my browser to freeze.
Predictions:
Kansas City will not win more than four games in 2009
Kansas City will have a new OC and DC in 2010
Kansas City will win at least seven games in 2010
And by "Sprint" you must mean AT&T or some other inferior company.
Shhh the official sponsor of AP might be listening.

easy there
AT&T is the official sponsor of jmcgoblue, so lets use Verizon as the example of the inferior company, ok? ;)

You that raises a point I've been wanting to discuss for awhile
Could there be an ad free version of AP that we pay for? A lot of the ads, particularly for the mobile version, which is what I primarily use, are annoying. However I really like this site and want to help support Chris and Joel as they do a phenomenal job.
I don’t know if it possible between being part of SB Nation, which I imagine must approve such decisions, and Sprint being a sponsor (depending upon terms they may not want to lose potential viewers). But this is something that I would really like.
And I totally disagree with the usage of ad block, so that isn’t an option.

So you want to get rid of ads
but you disagree with the usage of a plugin that… :: drumroll :: gets rid of ads?

Well Todd Haley won't have that dilemma for quite a while.... for at least two more years anyway. ( ;
Leave the gun. Take the cannoli.
Kind like the Eagles game, when you went for the win?
Not

This is good to know.
Any coach or GM who would throw away a chance to be the best team of all time for what may or may not be a slightly better chance to be the best team of the year, deserves to be fired on the spot. They’re either complete idiots who didn’t see the golden opportunity that was right in front of their faces or they’re gutless and didn’t want the pressure of an undefeated run. It’s nice to know that Haley has his head on straight unlike those clowns in Indy.
So easy a Todd Haley can do it!! LoL

insert Herm Edwards quote here...
* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season
* Stats are for losers
I'm starting to see some similarities here...
“You play to win the game.”- Herm
“…you have to play to win (the game)” – Haley
Herm: 4-12 / 2-14
Haley: 4-12 or 3-13

9-7
4-12
2-14
4-12 (I still have hope)
9-7
…now where did I leave my Kool-Aid…
lol I cant wait till we hit 13-3 again!

"You are what your record says you are."
If the Colts make it, it will look like a good move, if they fail, well then I guess it didn’t make any f**kin difference.
I like the way Teddy B put it
Paraphrased since I saw it live and didn’t record it. This is the gist of it from memory….
As someone who loves this game I was pulling for the Colts to go undefeated. Yes we could not finish it but I would love to see someone pull off the feat of 19-0 which would be the greatest team in NFL history, 2 games better than the 17-0 1972 Miami Dolphins.
Watching the Colts play, I can say this even though not very many people have said it is that the only difference between the 2009 Colts and the 2007 Patriots is that at least we had the guts to chase history.
Predictions for 2009:
The Chiefs will regret cutting LJ
Bowe's numbers regress due to lack of decent QB play.
The D gets better in the second half but still is plagued by big plays
Cassel looks more like the guy Pioli almost cut in the '08 preseason instead of the franchise QB he hoped he would be when he traded him for
Chiefs 3-13

I saw that, too Bones
agreed and rec’d.

And for the record.....
I didn’t like the move at least offensively. Defensively, I think the rest is a good idea but offense is all about rhythm and already having a bye the first week of the playoffs I think that it is best to play the offense until at least halftime of week 17.

On the other hand...
If they keep their players in and someone, let’s say Peyton Manning, if he gets hurt then everyone criticizes the coach for not benching him and resting him. Either way you look at it you can be screwed. It’s pretty much a loose/loose situation. Either way I’m backing the coach on this win, sure the fans may get pissed but you know what, I’d rather know that my Future HOF QB is safe then potentially getting injured, you wouldn’t want that now would ya.
"Charles In Charge"
"Defense Wins Championships"
Considering Manning has never missed a game
I would feel good about my chances of Manning not getting hurt. He doesn’t take a lot of hits which reduces the opportunity for a fluke.

Had Manning got hurt...
the media and all the blogholes would be calling for coach Caldwell’s head. Who’s to say that they didn’t play to win? I’m sure the backups didn’t just go out there and lay down, they just got beaten. If any of those players end up filling in for an injured starter in the Super Bowl, I bet the Colts fans will be glad they saw the field last Sunday.
Who gives a shit about what the media says?
I am pretty sure the people running the Colts don’t.

And as you already mentioned
Manning doesn’t get hit much and has a sterling attendance record, I’d say the chances of him getting hurt badly enough to miss any playoff reps is pretty slim, so not all that big of a risk to go ahead and leave him in for another quarter or so to try and keep the game under control.

Go Todd Haley!

Sadly it's the "Colts Way" of doing things
I put them up with Shanahan’s Donks as far as being pussies and rolling over in meaningful games. Even if the perfect season didn’t matter to the Colts, the game was still important for all the AFC teams pushing for the playoffs. It really bugs me to see that.
And I don’t think it’s an accident the Colts only SB win under Manning came in one of the only years they didn’t have the luxury of taking games off.

What?
Im not a fan of RETODD he should not comment on this due to his stellar year as coach, off cord,qb coach and DICTATOR.Cowher has a staff lined up with him and he wants 50 mill. You want to sell tickets get this clown out of here.Bring Cowher in and build this team with defense.Hell if the ravens can win a superbowl with a shut down defense and TRENT DILFER at qb then we will be fine with king Cassel.Bring Cowher and a champion ship back to the best fans in the league.
So because YOU aren't a fan
that means the organization should can the coach they hired less than 12 months ago and start all over again with a whole new coaching staff? Are you from D.C. or Oakland?
p.s. periods are typically followed by a space before the next sentence starts. just fyi.
Bask in the glory that is Kwame Harris. Poor Alex...
You don`t hve a clue
Do you honestly believe retodd is a good coach? No i live in Kansas City and i am a season ticket holder. Did you go to any games this year? How sad is it that arrowhead is half full. I see your name JHWK. How would you know what a bad coach is? What bowl game did they get? I bet you went to ku also?
p.s. Manginos thinking arby`s
It's a tough call.
They DID start Manning and they were up 5 points when they sat him. They learned something about their depth players, especially that house painter guy.
And let’s give the Jets some credit. They were DEFinitely gunnin’ for the win. And Painter’s problems were helped right along by a pretty awesome pass rush.
Prediction for '09: Chiefs are looking like a .500 team, especially considering Denver's inattention to D-Line, Chokeland's disarray, and a San Diego team that looks like it's on the decline. With a weak schedule, Chiefs steal a few and win between 7 and 9 games, and if .500 or better, will contend for supremacy in a weak division.
Wait a minute
Does this mean that Haley has been trying to win all season? Good Lord, things are worse than I thought.
