Chiefs' Brian Waters Up For NFL Man of the Year Award
Shall we call him Will Shields part deux?
Kansas City Chiefs G Brian Waters has been nominated for the NFL's Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. This award is the only such honor that highlights a player's work around the community.
"What a humbling honor," Waters said of the award. "All of my accomplishments on the field would mean nothing if I couldn’t contribute to my community. For me, the gridiron serves a greater purpose."
Josh Looney of KCChiefs.comhas more on Waters' efforts:
In a short amount of time and with little fanfare, Waters has impacted tens of thousands of children and families. His heart and passion inspired him to establish The Brian Waters 54 Foundation. Created in 2004, the foundation’s mission is to give back and impact communities while making a difference in the lives of the less fortunate. The work and focus of the foundation serves those in Waters hometown, Waxahachie, Texas and has expanded to include the Greater Kansas City area, Dallas and Sulphur Springs, TX.
No other team in the NFL has put forth as many Man of the Year winners as the Chiefs with LB Willie Lanier (1972), QB Len Dawson (1973), LB Derrick Thomas (1993) and G Will Shields (2003).
Three HOFers and one future. Not bad...
Big time congratulations to Brian Waters for this nomination.

Outstanding - Congratulations to Brian
To me getting picked for this award is almost on par with getting in the HOF. I can’t recall if they have a Man of the Year display in Canton, but if they don’t they should!

And I just checked - there are other teams with 4
Chargers and Bears both have 4 winners. One site said 4 teams are tied at 4. So if Brian gets it this will put the Chiefs alone with 5.

Team cancer...
only thinks about himself… selfish…. thinks his time is more important than others…
This guy is a great Chief, and I’m proud to have him on the team. He gives his all on, and off the field. He’s done that his entore career.
Congrats to Brian!
How the hell does a guy
that stands up a charity fund raiser that he Co-Chairs because his whittle feelings were hurt, get nominated for such a prestigious honor? I don’t buy that BS that “He forgot” Plenty of other Chief players made it to the event and they weren’t Co-Chairs!
Damn Y’all, We as human beings can’t condone that shit, no matter what!
He said it was a misunderstanding....
That was the only topic he covered over the offseason – that he did not intentionally miss that charity event.

Just sayin'
That’s what Waters said…feel like I gotta trust him over everyone else given his reputation around the city as a community guy. And I’m assuming he didn’t drop that charity so things must not have gotten bad between them…

I'm with you, Joel
A guy with a record like his, I think he’s earned the benefit of the doubt.

Was weak that he "missed" that
I dont know bout givin a pass…Theres SOOOO many guys who do all kinds of charities and helps out as much as possible solely for the credit, to say hes a good guy, tax write off, whatever. This guys had a me first attitude ever since the new regime got here with his walkin into a building thinkin he can go “Yeah its Brian here to see the big wigs”. And gets over dramatic when they cant see him since they’re preparing for free agency, draft, etc. Ever since then I dont think hes been in it 100%. Never seen him play as bad as this year.
We don't know the story...
And to say he’s been me-first the entire time is crazy in my opinion. My first argument…why was he selected a team captain if he’s a me-first guy? Why has he been nominated, on multiple occasions, for this award, if he’s a me-first guy?
As far as his play, I can’t disagree much. But we’d be kidding ourselves if we didnt’ expect a decline in a 32 year old guard.

I'm glad he cares off the field...
Becuase it doesn’t look like he cares on it anymore.

I believe that one of his teachers won Teacher of the Year awards.
Something that he had nominated her for last season.
