Good day, Chiefs fans

How are my AFC West brethren to the east on this fine day? Well, let's get that straight, here in Massachusetts it is not a fine day. Rain, rain go away... Anyways, I usually don't drop too much into other fan sites because nine times of ten, arguments and trollish comments begin to surface. In any event, I thought I'd drop on in and lay down some things I like about the KC Chiefs. First, a little history. For one, I've never met a KC fan that's disrespectful or hateful. That's a welcome change from Dolts and Faiders fans as I'm sure you're all aware. My cousin (who grew up in Sedalia, MO) is a die hard Chiefs fan and he's always been respectful of my blue and orange swag. Anywho, to the points:

1. I absolutely love Hank Stram (may he rest in peace). I think his contributions to the NFL in the coaching realm should always be remembered and respected. Apparently, I'm not alone. Canton feels the same way.

2. Lamar Hunt--the grandfather of the AFL. Without Lamar Hunt and Bud Adams early struggles with the NFL, the AFL would have never existed. Much like Chiefs fans, I feel Broncos fans should be equally grateful for his contributions to professional football.

3. Arrowhead Stadium. Look, I've never been IN the stadium, but I've driven by it a few times on road trips and I am in awe of your stomping grounds. Just the sight of red everything really makes one appreciate how much you all love your team. I respect that.

4. Derrick Thomas (also, RIP). What needs to be said about #58? He completely dominated his position (much to the headaches of Broncos fans everywhere). It's nice to see the Chiefs recognizing his number as one that should never be worn again.

5. The fans. I think Chiefs fans are among the best in football. I have family who are Chiefs fans and I banter with them all the time. They've never swayed from their team and I get the sense that it's like that with pretty much all of you. Given all of Denver's offseason turmoil (and the ensuing bandwagon fans jumping ship), I've really learned to respect the fans of a franchise that never sway. It really sucked to see so many Broncos fans turning their heads because they didn't think our coach knew what he was doing. I suppose that's where Chiefs fans and Broncos fans are different. After all, I think we can all agree that Herm Edwards was a bit of a train wreck for a head coach, yet Chiefs fans stayed strong for their team. Again, I respect that.

Anyways, I'm not here being sarcastic and I hope my post doesn't read that way. Although we are bitter rivals with a history of hatred by nature, I want it to be known that I place Chiefs fans on a rung or two above Dolts and Faiders fans. For good reason too, you all are actually fans. I wish you all the best of luck on Sunday and I think we can all hope for a good clean game with no injuries to either team. Have a great week.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

Thanks Joe!

Come tailgating in KC sometime and meet the fans up close. Great BBQ in KC.

Thanks

I was a bronco fan when you punked the Raiders to go to your first SB and would have rather seen you win than Dallas. But I am proud to say I never rooted for the Raiders or Chargers. No class whatsoever.

Thank you for the post

I do appreciate the good words and some friendly banter. My Dad is a Bronco fan, so I do understand the importance of the rivalry and professional loathe for the other division teams, while still having the ability to be respectful to the fans.

You show great class for yourself, are a credit to the Bronco fan base, and a great representative of the quality of the AP family (sort of like an ugly, toothless cousin) :)

Thanks for the post!

What a classy gent you are! Thanks for your kind words!

Its a bitter rivalry for me with the Broncos — my brother is a Broncos fan and we’ve butted heads a few times over it in the past. Doesn’t mean that we can’t be civil though!

"Every day is an evaluation and if you’re not out there how can we depend on you? If you’re out there and you don’t know what to do, how can we depend on you?" Accountability -- Haley-style...

Nice writeup

"The way this works is you string together some good games, some good practices and you get momentum and you gain confidence," linebacker Mike Vrabel said. "It can be a real positive for your team. It builds on itself."

Thanks for stopping by Joe

Thanks for the nice words and what you thought of the Chiefs history and fans. I know a certain manager and blogger of a Dolts site here on SB Nation that could learn from J-man and yourself on how to communicate to a rival team. If you ever have a chance to stop and watch a game here in KC, please do. With that being said, I hope the Chiefs kick the Broncos butts Sunday in honor of Derrick Thomas.

Go CHIEFS!

Yeah, let's just keep matriculatin' the ball down the field, boys! ...

Thanks

Thanks for the words man, I live in Bronco country, and I’ve never had a problem with the fans. I even went to a game right after hurricane Katrina at Mile High. It was a Monday Night game against the Chiefs, and I wore my DT jersey; only one drunk guy tried to fight me, which isn’t many – I’ve seen worse fans at Arrowhead, so it ended up being a good time, even though you guys crushed us by like 30 or so points. Now that Shanahan’s cut blocking scheme is gone, I respect your team a lot more too. Hopefully we have a good and injury free game this weekend, cheers.

Thanks for the warm response everyone.

I will definitely make sure to check out a Chiefs game in person if ever given the opportunity. I read Total Access by Rich Eisen recently, and I’m compelled to check things out at Arrowhead because from I understand there is a tradition there:

…and the home of the CHIEFS!

That’d be pretty awesome to see and hear live. Oh, and the few times I’ve been through KC, I always made sure to stop and enjoy some mom and pop barbeque joints. Some of the best food I’ve ever eaten for sure.

Joe

I notice your profile says you do graphic design for MHR. Can you do some for AP, so we don’t have that lame football logo, but rather something actually Chiefs related? Like an Arrowhead or an actual Chief or something?

Well from what I understand,

the official AP logo was designed by SB Nation. I’ve lobbied to have MHR’s changed as well but John Bena (the MHR leader) mentioned that SB Nation moderates those logos. I would, however, be interested in doing some things for your sites periodic readings (Sort of like Horse Tracks on MHR, a daily news segment)
