Succop Passes Stenerud And Colquitt Climbs the Record Books

The Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Cincinnati Bengals but Ryan Succop continued his positive campaign with a Chiefs rookie franchise record 22nd field goal.

Per KCChiefs.com:

K Ryan Succop hit his 22nd FG of the season, surpassing Hall of Fame K Jan Stenerud (21) for the most made FGs by a rookie in Chiefs history. Succop now has 90 points on the year, the third-highest tally by a rookie kicker in team history. Succop also has 24 made PATs, tying as the fourth-highest tally by a Chiefs rookie.

Stenerud is the leading points scorer for a rookie kicker at 108. Succop is 18 points behind so he's unlikely to pass that. He is 14 point behind second place Jack Spikes, set in 1960.

Also in the special teams category, Dustin Colquitt now has 39 punts inside the 20 on the season, a franchise record. It's also the third highest total in NFL history.

San Francisco 49ers punter Andy Lee set the NFL record with 42 in 2007.

Go Dustin!

I hate to say it but against Denver we could have a big punting day. Is it outside of the imagination for Dustin to get 4 inside the 20 next week?

A man who says he can, and a man who says he can't are both right. Which one are you?

no i was thinking the same myself

if the last denver game is any indication, then we’ll be punting a lot.

UCrawford will eventually calm down and realize that Haley isn't a bad coach.
Will embrace the Fire Haley Bandwagon if we lose to the raiders by more then a TD...
..But we aren't going to lose.
LJ will not land in Pittsburgh
The Chiefs will not be the number one pick in this years draft
The Chiefs first pick of the draft will NOT be a OL
Thinks UCrawford just needs a hug... offer is there when you are ready UC :p

Way to go!

At least (most) two people on this team are doing their job every week

Positive Yards! I've been sayin it for years.

no faith

I see Ryan kicking at least 6 fgs against the Donkeys next week in a blow out game.

Blame my wife!
Waiting until August 2010

I don't think of

18 – 0 being a blowout :P

for Succop

a more productive offense (or defense for that matter) would have yielded enough opportunities to break Stenerud’s points record.

Congrats all the same. I hope he continues to develop and becomes our cornerstone kicker for years to come. It’s about time we had a heartbreaker like Elam, Vinatieri and the likes.

Exactly right

because Succop has kicked more FGs than Stenerud – so the difference has to be that Stenerud kicked more PATs. Apparently… at least 21! :-)

I wonder… is there a way we can get Succop on the field as a goal line TE or WR against Denver? Wearing number 2, he wouldn’t even have to report eligible!

Or… maybe he could get a direct snap and run for a TD out of a short yardage FG formation. Why not? With Stenerud, the Chiefs had that play in the playbook. In fact, they were supposed to run it early in the famous Chistmas Day game against Miami, but there was a communication breakdown. Stenerud missed that FG because he was expecting the ball to be snapped to him – not to Dawson. And the rest is history.

Don’t believe me? Read the story

I know… totally crazy. But Succop has already shown he can make an open-field tackle. Why shouldn’t he get a shot at some of these other jobs, too? :-)
